Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The movie takes place in the fictional Kingdom of Arendelle, where the two princesses, Elsa and Anna, live. At the beginning, the two are seen in a moonlit bedroom as Anna tries to wake her sister so they can play. What does Anna say that eventually gets Elsa out of bed?

Answer: "Do you want to build a snowman?"

Anna claims that because the sky is awake, she is awake, too, and she wants Elsa to get up to play with her. Elsa, though, just wants to sleep, at least until Anna suggests they build a snowman. Together, they go down the stairs to the castle's ballroom where Elsa uses her powers, the ability to create and control snow and ice, to turn the room into a snowy landscape.

They build a snowman and sled in the magical snow.
2. While creating a winter wonderland in the castle's ballroom, Elsa accidentally shoots Anna with her magic which causes her to fall unconscious. After Elsa wakes her parents, where do they take Anna?

Answer: to a family of trolls

While the two princesses are playing, Elsa creates piles of snow as Anna jumps onto them. But, Anna begins to jump faster than Elsa can make the snow. When Anna starts to fall, Elsa accidentally hits her in the head with her power causing her to fall unconscious and a strand of her hair to turn white. Elsa then wakes her parents to help her.

After consulting a book, the king and queen take their two daughters to a family of trolls in the forest. The leader of the trolls, the Grand Pabbie, tells them that Elsa must be locked away from people to keep her and others safe.

He also alters Anna's memory so she cannot remember Elsa's magic.
3. Years pass, the princesses' parents die, and with Elsa locked in her room, the two sisters grow more and more apart. Finally the day of Elsa's coronation arrives and the gates to the castle will open for the festivities. Are both Elsa and Anna excited by this?

Answer: No

After visiting the trolls, the king and queen move Elsa to another room where she can't see anyone else besides her parents and the gates to the castle are closed to outsiders. While Anna sings the song "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" the audience sees how lonely Anna is without her sister, especially not knowing why she won't talk to her. In between the song's lyrics, Elsa is shown as her powers get stronger and she becomes more frightened by what she can do. Her father, trying to help, gives her gloves to wear. In a later scene, the king and queen are seen leaving on a voyage that ends in disaster when a storm sinks their ship.

Three years after their parents die, the day for Elsa to become queen arrives. For the occasion, the castle's gates are opening for the first time in about sixteen years and people from many surrounding kingdoms will be visiting. The two princesses sing the song "For the First Time in Forever" where their feelings about the gates opening are revealed. Anna is excited by the prospect of meeting new people. Elsa, on the other hand, is still afraid of her inability to control her powers and what would happen if people found out about them.
4. On the day of her sister's coronation, Anna meets Prince Hans from the Southern Isles. Almost instantly they fall into deep infatuation with each other, and this being a Disney movie, they break into song. During their duet, what is love compared to?

Answer: an open door

Anna and Hans first meet at the end of "For the First Time in Forever" and again at the party after Elsa's coronation. They leave the party to explore the castle and grounds together as they sing "Love is an Open Door". At the end of the song, Hans proposes to Anna and she instantly accepts.

The two return to the party seeking Elsa's blessing. To the surprise of Anna and Hans, Elsa disapproves, telling Anna she can't marry someone she just met. This causes the two sisters to have an argument, during which Anna pulls off one of Elsa's gloves. Elsa tries to leave the ballroom, but not before creating an ice barrier between her and Anna.

This revelation of Elsa's powers is a shock to Anna and everyone in the ballroom. Elsa, scared of the repercussions, then flees the kingdom.
5. After arguing with Anna and revealing her powers to everyone, Elsa runs away into the mountains. What song does she sing as she creates a palace of ice?

Answer: Let It Go

Elsa flees to the North Mountain where she sings the song "Let It Go", which is about how she can finally be herself without having to hide her powers anymore. While singing, she creates an ice palace and an ice dress.

The song won the award for Best Original Song at the 2014 Academy Awards. The movie also won the award for Best Animated Feature.
6. Anna, on her way to find her sister, has met Kristoff and his reindeer, Sven, who agree to help her get to the North Mountain where Elsa is. On their way, they meet a snowman that Elsa has created and brought to life. What is his name?

Answer: Olaf

Olaf is a recreation of the snowman Elsa made at the beginning of the movie when the two were young. He is very happy, friendly, and optimistic. He instantly becomes friends with Anna and Kristoff. When, Anna tells him that she is trying to restore summer to the kingdom he becomes excited and sings the song, "In Summer" while envisioning what life would be like in the summer, not knowing that snow melts in the heat.

He joins them on their quest to find Elsa.
7. Anna finally gets to Elsa and asks her to come back to Arendelle to fix what she did, but Elsa, not knowing how to change it back, gets upset and accidentally strikes Anna with her powers again. Where does she strike her this time?

Answer: the heart

When Anna and her friends reach Elsa's palace, Anna goes in to speak to her sister. But what starts as a friendly conversation, ends with Elsa getting agitated and striking Anna in the heart, with her powers, by accident. Even more upset by hurting her sister again, Elsa creates a giant snow monster which chases Anna, Kristoff, Sven, and Olaf away from her palace.

Although the consequences of being struck in the heart by Elsa do not effect Anna at first, her hair soon begins to turn whiter and she also becomes very cold. Realizing something is wrong, Kristoff takes Anna to his family, the trolls from the beginning of the movie. At first the trolls think that Anna is Kristoff's girlfriend and sing the song "Fixer Upper". Eventually, after they see that Anna is ill, the two are told by the Grand Pabbie that to thaw a frozen heart an act of true love must be performed. Believing this means a kiss from Hans, the group of friends quickly heads back to the castle.

Meanwhile, Prince Hans, who was left in charge of Arendelle by Anna when she left, has gone into the mountains with a group of men to find Anna and Elsa. They end up at Elsa's palace not long after the others have left. Hans and a couple of the men make it past the snow monster and capture Elsa. They bring her back to the castle and lock her up.
8. After discovering that only an act of true love can save Anna, Kristoff takes her back to the castle so Hans can kiss her and unfreeze her heart. When Anna and Hans are left alone, what happens?

Answer: Hans reveals that he never loved Anna.

Kristoff leaves Anna at the castle where she rejoins Hans. The two are left in a room together so that he can take care of her. Anna tells him everything that has happened and that he needs to kiss her to save her life. At this point Hans reveals that he never loved her. He was just pretending so that she would marry him and he would become king after killing Elsa. Although he was a prince, he was the youngest of thirteen brothers and knew he would never become king in his own country. Anna, of course, is shocked by this turn of events and after Hans locks her in the room to die, doesn't know what to do since she is too weak to move. Luckily, Olaf comes to her rescue. When he sees Kristoff racing back to the castle, Anna discovers she loves him, and Olaf helps Anna escape by going out a window so she can join him.

Meanwhile, Hans has told everyone that Anna has died, but not before marrying him first. This new position gives him the power to charge Elsa with treason for killing Anna. He and some guards go to her prison cell only to find that she has escaped by breaking a hole in the wall.
9. Anna and Kristoff struggle to get to each other across the frozen fjord as Elsa's blizzard rages around them. But, as they draw nearer, Anna sees Hans about to kill Elsa. What happens to Anna as she runs in between the two to protect her sister?

Answer: Her body freezes entirely and her hand stops Hans' sword.

Anna and Kristoff have both realized their love for each other. He races to save her, but Elsa's storm makes it difficult for them to reach each other.

Hans has gone in search of Elsa to kill her. When he tells her she has killed Anna, she is overcome with grief and collapses on to the frozen fjord. Her emotion calms the storm for a moment allowing Anna to see Hans standing over her with his sword drawn. As she's about to reach Kristoff, Anna changes course and leaps in between Hans and Elsa. At this point the ice in her heart spreads over her body and turns her into an ice statue and her frozen hand blocks the sword.
10. Anna's sacrifice is the act of true love that melts her heart, and Elsa realizes that love will melt all of the snow and ice caused by her powers as well. With summer finally restored in the kingdom, what happens to Olaf?

Answer: He survives under a personal cloud given to him by Elsa.

When Elsa sees that Anna has frozen, she becomes even more upset and hugs her. But, suddenly Anna begins to melt. The act of true love had to be preformed by Anna because it was her heart that needed to thaw and sacrificing her life to save someone she loves did the trick. As this time, Elsa discovers that love will melt the winter she created. As the summer is restored, Olaf also begins to melt, but Elsa saves him by creating a small cloud to follow him around and snow on him.

Everything becomes right again in the kingdom. Hans is sent back to the the Southern Isles to be punished. Anna and Elsa become close sisters once more. Kristoff receives a new sled from Anna and becomes the Official Ice Master for the kingdom. He and Anna also share their first kiss. The movie ends with Elsa creating an ice rink in the castle's courtyard and saying that the gates will never be closed again.
