Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the house in New England where a majority of the film takes place?

Answer: Hill House

Hill House is actually a fairly popular name for old manor houses featured in Gothic literature and film and it probably originates from Shirley Jackson's "The Haunting of Hill House". However, the Hill House in "Clue" is named after the film's producer, Debra Hill.
2. Which of the following suspects is incorrectly matched with the reason Mr. Boddy is blackmailing them?

Answer: Mr. Green: Stole nuclear secrets

Mr. Green is actually being blackmailed for being a closeted homosexual, a trait that can get him fired from the State Department in the 1950s.

Professor Plum lost his medical license after his affair with a patient was discovered. He now works at the World Health Organization and is trying to hide his past. Mrs. White has a series of past husbands who all died mysteriously or disappeared under suspicious circumstances. Miss Scarlet runs a well-frequented escort service in D.C. in which Colonel Mustard is a client (and for which he is blackmailed). Mustard is also being blackmailed for his part in the black market sale of radio parts during World War II. Mrs. Peacock is being blackmailed for accepting bribes in order to persuade her senator husband to vote certain ways.
3. What does Mr. Boddy suggest the guests do with the weapons he gives them?

Answer: Kill Wadsworth

Wadsworth tells the guests that Mr. Boddy is the one who has been blackmailing them. Mr. Boddy then explains that they cannot turn him over to the police without him revealing their secrets. Mr. Boddy suggests they turn off the lights, kill Wadsworth and destroy the evidence of his blackmailing. Instead, it is Mr. Boddy who is dead when the lights come on.
4. Which of the six weapons is the one that is used to kill Mr. Boddy in endings A and B?

Answer: Candlestick

When all the guests are assembled in the study to receive their weapons, the lights go out and Mr. Boddy is pronounced dead from a blow to the head. However, he actually is still alive at that point. Mr. Boddy is killed soon afterward when everyone goes to check on the cook.

He is hit on the head with the candlestick and tossed into the bathroom. This is only the case in endings A and B but not C.
5. When the guests split up to search the house, which person is paired with Yvette?

Answer: Mr. Green

This is meant to be a hilarious joke because Yvette is a stereotypical buxom French maid all the men drool over and Mr. Green is a closeted homosexual. It is during this part of the movie that Yvette is killed via strangulation with the rope in the billiard room.
6. In which room of the house is the cop killed?

Answer: Library

The cop arrives in Hill House after following the stranded motorist. He asks to use the phone, which scares the other guests because they have been keeping dead bodies in the rooms that have phones, such as the study. Wadsworth locks the cop in the library so he cannot go exploring the mansion. He is soon killed by being whacked with the lead pipe.
7. What is the connection between Colonel Mustard and the stranded motorist?

Answer: The motorist was Mustard's driver during the war.

The motorist was Colonel Mustard's driver during World War II and was aware that Colonel Mustard was dealing radio parts on the black market. When the motorist is found dead, Colonel Mustard denies killing him and says that he is not a murderer. Mrs. Peacock then points out that Colonel Mustard is responsible for the deaths of many servicemen whose radios malfunctioned.
8. Which of the following statements is correct regarding the revolver?

Answer: It was used to fire two shots at the lounge door.

There is an infamous scene in ending A where Miss Scarlet and Wadsworth argue over how many bullets are left in the revolver. Wadsworth insists there are no bullets left in the revolver because it only held six. He explains that one was fired in the study at Mr. Boddy, two were shot accidentally at the chandelier, two were used to shoot open the lounge door and one was used to kill the singing telegram girl. However, Miss Scarlet correctly points out that Yvette only shot once at the chandelier, leaving one bullet in the revolver.

Professor Plum is the suspect that originally receives the revolver, not Mr. Green. The revolver is used to kill the singing telegram girl, not the motorist. The motorist is killed via the wrench.
9. Which of the following people never kills Mr. Boddy in any of the three endings?

Answer: Miss Scarlet

Although Miss Scarlet is revealed to be the culprit in ending A, she did not kill Mr. Boddy in that ending. Her accomplice and former employee at her bordello Yvette does before Miss Scarlet killed her. Yvette also kills Mrs. Ho, the cook. Miss Scarlet kills everybody else.

In ending B, Mrs. Peacock is the culprit and kills all of the victims.

In ending C, everyone is involved in a murder in some way. Professor Plum was believed to have killed Mr. Boddy with the candlestick while everyone else was in the kitchen discovering the cook's dead body. However, Wadsworth reveals that he is actually Mr. Boddy and that the fake Mr. Boddy was actually the real butler. Mr. Boddy is killed at the end by Mr. Green with the revolver after Mr. Green reveals himself to be an FBI agent.
10. True or False: All six of the suspects wear clothes that are the same color as their name suggests (such as Miss Scarlet wearing red).

Answer: False

None of the suspects were the color their name would suggest. This is because the names the characters go by are not their real names, just aliases to protect their identities, though some of the characters do know one another. However, all of the cars driven by the suspects on their way to the mansion, are in the color their names suggest. Miss Scarlet drives a red car, Colonel Mustard a yellow one, Mrs. White white, Mr. Green green, Mrs. Peacock blue and Professor Plum purple.
