The first movie entitled "The Swiss Family Robinson" hit the theatres in 1940. But we're talking here about the remake in 1960. (By the way, many other remakes have been made for movie theatres or for the little screen.)
In the 1960 movie, John Mills plays the father and Dorothy McGuire plays the mother. The children are played by James MacArthur, Tommy Kirk and Kevin Corcoran.
On their route to New Guinea, the family experiences a shipwreck and strands on a tropical island. Pirates abound in the nearby sea.
According to the book, the family Robinson was on their way to Australia.

"The Blue Lagoon" was rated "parent guided" because of the frequent nude scenes, involving young children or teens. Nevertheless, the movie became a great success.

I won't spoil the plot, but give a vague idea of what to expect. When Richard and Emmeline reach the island as young children (7-8 years), they have with them only the clothes they wear. The children remain on the island for at least eight years, and they have not had any lessons in making clothes...

Answer: Dr. Moreau

The movie title reveals the correct answer: it is the 1977 movie "The Island of Dr. Moreau". Andrew Braddock is at first relieved to find some human company, but that will soon be replaced by fear of the unorthodox exeperiments Dr. Moreau performs on the animals on the island. I won't spoil the plot: find the movie somewhere and see for yourself.
The first movie adaptation of H.G. Wells' novel with the same title was made in 1932. Another remake was made in 1996.

The story is well known: Robinson Crusoe is stranded on a deserted island. After a certain period of time, he meets a native from nearby islands, whom he takes as his slave. But the other natives come to fetch Robinson's slave as a sacrifice to their idols.
Oddly enough, the 1997 movie never hit the theatres in the UK nor in the USA. It was sold directly on DVD.

Marty the zebra, Alex the lion, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippopotamus were all friends from the Central Park Zoo. On celebrating his tenth birthday, Marty is suddenly impatient to see the world outside the zoo. When the animals are caught at Grand Central Station, it is decided to send them to a Kenyan reserve as they may have become too aggressive to be kept in the zoo. En-route the ship is hijacked by the penguins and the four friends find themselves unexpectedly shipwrecked on the island of Madagascar.

This Mexican movie was based upon the true story of Cabeza de Vaca, one of the rare survivors of a shipwreck. When he tried to find his way back over land towards the Spanish colonies in the Americas, he met some native Americans with whom he teamed up.
While the movie states Cabeza de Vaca was shipwrecked in Florida, real history describes his shipwreck near Galveston, Texas.
Nicolas Echevarria directed this movie, and Juan Diego played the title role.

George Clooney and Mark Wahlberg are the stars in "The Perfect Storm". Although the weather forecasts are quite threatening, Captain Billy Tyne decides to sail to the Flemish Cap, hoping to catch lots of swordfish.
Wolfgang Petersen shot some scenes on the edge of a real hurricane.

"Lifeboat" tells the story of nine survivors from a ship torpedoed by a German U-boat. But after a while they pick up a tenth victim of a shipwreck - one of the sailors on the aforesaid U-boat...
Alfred Hitchcock directed and produced this movie, based upon an idea which spontaneously crossed his mind during the Second World War. He started pondering "What if...", and Jo Swerling wrote the scenario based upon this idea.
The cameo appearance is an advertisement for a fictional obesity cure.

Answer: The African Queen

"The African Queen" is the movie we're looking for. Neither Humphrey Bogart nor Katharine Hepburn have any role in the red herrings. Rose Sayer (Katharine Hepburn) has buried her brother, an English missionary in German Eastern Africa and victim of the first lootings over there during the First World War.

She contacts a grumpy steamboat captain (played by Humphrey Bogart) to get her out of the enemy territory. Although Rose is continuously quoting the Bible and preaching mercy, she decides to enact revenge on the "Luise" - a German battlecruiser they suppose is in the lake they have to cross.

Answer: Titanic

James Cameron produced and directed the best known movie about the "Titanic", which hit an iceberg on April 14, 1912 and rapidly sank.
The movie won eleven Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director. Kate Winslet was nominated for an Oscar, but Leonardo DiCaprio wasn't.
The main plot is of course summarized as "the Titanic sinks". But the romance between the aristocrat Rose and the third-class passenger Jack takes at least as much screen time.
