She played the ex-wife of newspaper editor Walter Burns (Cary Grant).
Rosalind died in 1976 from breast cancer. One of her most famous roles was as Mama Rose in "Gypsy".
2. Who played Walter Burns?

Answer: Cary Grant

Cary Grant was a British-born American actor. In this film he played a newspaper editor who was willing to pull out all the stops to keep his ex-wife from retiring from the newspaper business. Other films include "Arsenic and Old Lace", "How To Catch a Thief" and "Bringing Up Baby".
3. Who was Peter B. Hartwell?

Answer: The Sheriff

"Of course he had to have a gun to re-enact the crime with. And who do you think supplied it? Peter B. Hartwell. B for brains." Hildy said this when the sheriff and mayor were trying to blame Walter and her for Earl Williams' escape.
4. Who did Hildy refer to as Louis' "Albino"?

Answer: Evangaline

Evangaline was played by actress Marion Martin. In this film she was used to lure Hildy's fiance, Bruce Baldwin, into trouble with the police for "soliciting". Abbott and Costello fans may remember her from "Abbott & Costello Go To Hollywood".
5. Hildy was engaged to be married to Bruce Baldwin. In the first scene she was there to see Walter to tell him about it. What was the relationship between Hildy and Walter?

One of my favorite exchanges between Walter and Hildy:
Walter Burns: "There's been a lamp burning in the window for ya, honey."
Hildy Johnson: "No thanks - I jumped out that window a long time ago."

Answer: Insurance Salesman

Hildy got Walter to buy a policy from Bruce, by promising to write the Earl Williams' story.
7. Who did Walter make the benefactor of his insurance policy?

Bruce objected to this at first, but Walter reassured him by telling him what a loathsome husband he was to Hildy, and how independent she was to not accept any alimony from him.
8. What character had Bruce arrested for stealing his watch?

Answer: Louis

Bruce didn't actually steal Louis' watch, but was set up by Walter in order to buy himself some time to work on Hildy. Louis was played by Abner Biberman.

Answer: Molly Malloy

Molly was a well-known prostitute who took pity on Earl the night before the murder, when she found him wandering around in the rain.

Answer: Albany

Bruce has this to say about Albany: "Nice little town, Albany. They've got a State Capitol there, you know."
