Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Although aged 27 at the time, which musician voiced the part of Tip Tucci, a teenage girl in the 2015 DreamWorks movie "Home"?

Answer: Rihanna

"Home" was based on the children's book, "The True Meaning of Smekday" (2007) by Adam Rex and although it performed well at cinemas, critics did say that the plot, concerning the friendship between an oddball alien and a lonely teenage girl was predictable, even for children. The movie also starred the voices of Steve Martin, Jim Parsons and Jennifer Lopez, who played Rihanna's mother.
2. In the 1990 movie, "Home Alone", which city were the McCallister family planning to spend Christmas in?

Answer: Paris

"Home Alone" has, in the years since its release remained popular and is essential Christmas viewing for many families. It was such a successful movie that there were actually four sequels and three "Home Alone" video games released to cash in its popularity, although none of them were as successful as the original which held the Guinness World Record as the highest-grossing live-action comedy from 1990 until 2017.
3. The 1993 movie, "Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey" told the tale of three animals crossing the Sierra Nevada mountain range. What were the names of these pets?

Answer: Chance, Shadow and Sassy

This movie about an American Bulldog named Chance, Shadow the Golden Retriever and a cat called Sassy was a remake of a 1963 Disney movie called "The Incredible Journey". In the original movie however the animals were a Labrador Retriever named Luath, Bodger the Bull Terrier, and a Siamese cat named Tao, whose journey was across Canada.
4. In which movie franchise was the fourth instalment titled "The Voyage Home"?

Answer: Star Trek

"Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home" was the 1986 follow up to "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock" (1984) and starred the cast of the much loved TV series, as well as being directed by Leonard Nimoy who plays Mr. Spock. The film was a huge success, grossing almost $40 million in its first week of release in USA and Nimoy would go on to direct "Three Men and a Baby", starring Tom Selleck, Steve Guttenberg and Ted Danson the following year.
5. Who narrated the Oscar winning 1997 movie, "The Long Way Home"?

Answer: Morgan Freeman

"The Long Way Home" was a documentary about the antisemitism suffered by Jews in Europe at the end of World War II and the formation of the state of Israel. In addition to Freeman, it also features the voices of Miriam Margolyes, Sean Astin and Ed Asner and won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, beating out documentaries about the Waco siege, Ayn Rand and the Birmingham, Alabama bombing of 1963.
6. The 2004 Disney movie, "Home on the Range" told the story of three cows, voiced by Roseanne Barr, Jennifer Tilly and which other actress and Dame of British cinema?

Answer: Judi Dench

All of the possible answers have been honoured with the title of Dame, but it is Dame Judi Dench who gave us the voice of Mrs. Caloway, the rather prim and proper cow, alongside Barr's game for anything Maggie and Tilly's cow named Grace, who always reminds me of a bovine version of "Friends" character, Phoebe Buffay.

The movie also featured Cuba Gooding Jr. voicing a horse named Buck and Randy Quaid as a yodeling cattle rustler.
7. "Home for the Holidays" (1995) featured an all star cast including Robert Downey Jr., Holly Hunter and Clare Danes but which actress and two time Oscar winner directed it?

Answer: Jodie Foster

Foster who won Best Actress Oscar's for "The Accused" in 1988 and 1991's "Silence of the Lambs" was director on this not so successful movie, having previously directed "Little Man Tate" in 1991. Although critics praised Foster's direction of the movie, it was a a box office failure, grossing less than $18 million at American cinemas and costing $20 million to make.
8. Which sex symbol made her movie debut playing a prostitute in "A House is not a Home" in 1964, before going to to win bikini fame in "One Million Years B.C." just two years later?

Answer: Raquel Welch

"A House is not a Home" starred Shelley Winters and Cesar Romano and was based on the autobiography of Polly Adler, a successful brothel madam with ties to mobster Charles "Lucky" Luciano. In the same year as making her debut in this movie, Welch had a small part in the Elvis Presley film, "Roustabout" (1964), but it is for 1966's "One Million Years B.C." that she will always be remembered, even though she had only three lines of dialogue.
9. "The Long Walk Home" (1990), starring Whoopi Goldberg and Sissy Spacek, is a movie set in which famous historical event?

Answer: Montgomery Bus Boycott

One of the most famous events in the American civil rights movements was the backdrop for this excellent movie in which Spacek's character is forced to choose between doing what is right or following the wishes of her husband. Interestingly, one of the buses used in the movie is the actual Montgomery Bus Lines bus 2857, the very bus on which Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat in 1955, providing the catalyst for the boycott.
10. Who was the subject of the 2005 Martin Scorsese documentary, "No Direction Home"?

Answer: Bob Dylan

For well made documentaries on musical icons, Scorsese is the man, having also made movies about the Rolling Stones, the Band and George Harrison. "No Direction Home" covers the five years in Dylan's career from 1961 to 1966, as he moved from a traditional folk sound to rock based music and featured rare concert footage as well as artists such as Joan Baez, Pete Seeger and Dave Van Ronk discussing the impact Dylan has had on music.
