Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The film title referred to a team of Jewish-American soldiers recruited by Lt. Aldo Raine to carry out a mission in occupied France. The mission was to kill as many Nazis as possible and slaughter them in a most brutal way. Which member of the team was the last to be recruited separately at a later time?

Answer: Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz

The non-American of the group, Hugo Stiglitz, a German infantry sergeant, was in prison for killing several Gestapo officers. He was broken out of the prison by the Basterds.
Cpl Wicki was one of the Basterds sent to the undercover meeting with the English demolition expert and the German pro-Allied actress at the Navine tavern.
Pfc Ulmer was the one who masqueraded as an Italian-speaking cameraman's assistant as one of the infiltrators.
Sgt Donowittz, known as the "Bear Jew" was the one who wielded a baseball bat to kill captured Nazis.
2. What was the name of the Jewish family hiding under the farmhouse?

Answer: Dreyfus

Of the five family members only one daughter, Shosanna, escaped the slaughter and was next seen four years later as the owner of a cinema where the propaganda film would later be premiered. The three other names are those of actors in the cast.
3. Which of these languages, other than German, did Colonel Hans Landa not speak?

Answer: Yiddish

When questioning the French farmer, LaPaudite, he initially spoke French but claimed his command of the language was poor and switched to English when the farmer said that he too spoke English. Landa also spoke fluent Italian to the two team members posing as a cameraman and his assistant, when introduced to them at the reception prior to the showing of the propaganda film.
4. Which was Lt. Raine's home town?

Answer: Maynardville, Tennessee

It was mentioned in conversation with Colonel Landa. Brad Pitt, who acted as Lt. Raine, played the part with a very heavy southern accent which, on occasion, lost some of its twang.
5. What was the name of Dr. Goebbels' propaganda film?

Answer: Nation's Pride

The German title was "Stolz der Nation" which was printed on the board over the cinema's entrance. The English title was shown at the beginning of the actual film.
6. Which Australian born actor played the cameo part of Winston Churchill?

Answer: Rod Taylor

The 80 year old veteran actor has appeared in more than 90 films since his first film in 1953 and is probably best remembered for his role in Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds".
Both Russell Crowe and Sam Neil were born in New Zealand.
7. In the meeting at the Nadine tavern, a game was played in which each individual was required to guess the name of a famous person or character written on a card by another player. What was the name written on the Gestapo chief's card?

Answer: King Kong

The other names were written on cards of other players. The Gestapo Chief was played by August Diehl. Seemingly, his acting impressed Brad Pitt to the extent that he recommended Diehl for the role of Angelina Jolie's husband in "Salt".
8. What was the name of the German sniper, who was the star of the propaganda film and on whose recommendation the premier was switched to the cinema owned by Shosanna?

Answer: Private Frederick Zoller

Pvt Zoller claimed, in a later conversation with Shosanna, that he had killed over 600 of the enemy when serving in Italy. This exploit was the subject of the film.
Pvt Butz was a captured soldier forced to disclose the location of German troops. He was released and sent back across the German lines where he was interrogated by Hitler.
Sgt. Rachtman was a captured soldier, beaten to death for refusing to disclose the information afterwards given up by Pvt. Butz.
Mstr Sergeant Wilhelm was a drunk soldier at the Nadine Tavern celebrating the birth of his first son.
9. Who said "the objective of this operation, blow up the basket"?

Answer: General Ed Fenech

This was said on learning that the military and political German leaders, including Hitler, would be attending the film. "We have all our rotten eggs in one basket". The part of Generel Fenech was played by Mike Meyers.
General Frank was an aide to Adolf Hitler.
10. Who spliced an alternative ending and this dialogue "and this is the face of Jewish vengeance!" into the last reel of "Nation's Pride"?

Answer: An unnamed French film developer

While it was Shosanna Dreyfus's face and words, the actual doctoring of the film was done by the film developer, under threat from Shosanna and Marcel.
Marcel was Shosanna's projectionist who locked all the theatre doors during the fourth reel and ignited the fire which turned the building into a blazing inferno.
