Vince Papale played 3 years as a wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles and is the inspiration for this movie. He signed up as a walk-on for the Eagles training camp and was a long shot to make it on the team roster. This movie depicts the real events in his life.

In an interview after the movie hit theaters, the real Vince Papale said that he was more than happy to have the movie made about him and his stint with the Eagles.
2. What is the name of the coach played by Greg Kinnear?

3. While Vince's hours as a substitute teacher dwindle, what other job does Vince do part-time as an important source of income?

Answer: Bartending

At night Vince works as a bartender at a local bar where his friends also hang out. His substitute teaching hasn't worked out so he asks Max, the owner of the bar, for extra hours. Through Max he meets Janet, who also works at the bar and later becomes his love interest.
4. How does Vince get his chance at becoming a pro football player?

Answer: He goes to open tryouts.

The head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles decides to hold open tryouts for his team. With his friends' support Vince decides to go to the open tryouts and impresses the coach. After the grueling practices and drills, Vince eventually wins the last wide receiver spot on the team roster.
5. What is Janet's favorite NFL team?

Answer: New York Giants

Vince's friends go to see one of the Eagles' games in Philadelphia and Janet arrives wearing a New York Giants t-shirt. She is mocked by the Eagles' fans but Tommy backs her up and tries to calm people down.
6. During training camp what does Vince do to get a small edge in the wide receiver races?

Answer: He puts on a quarterback's shoulder pads.

7. Vince gets advice from one of his veteran teammates on reading a blocking stance. During one of the scrimmages what does Vince look at that tells him how the lineman will be blocking him?

Answer: a hand plant

In the dormitory, one of Vince's veteran teammates says to him that he's tired of seeing him being beat up during the practices and gives Vince some advice on reading a blocking stance. The next day during one of the blocking drills Vince uses the advice and reads the lineman's hand plant to sidestep a direct block.
8. What big play during the football game led Vince to score an NFL touchdown?

Answer: a forced fumble and recovery

In the football game with the Eagles versus the Giants, Vince breaks through the punt blocking line and gets a big jump on the return coverage. Just as the punt receiver catches the ball Vince tackles him and forces a fumble. Vince gets up, picks up the loose ball, and scampers into the end zone for an Eagles touchdown.
9. Do Vince and Janet become involved?

Answer: Yes

At first, when meeting Janet at a restaurant, Vince tells Janet that he needs to focus on football and does not want to get into a serious relationship. After making the team roster and getting his life back in perspective he goes to see her and they kiss and head back into her apartment.

Answer: Green Bay Packers

In the beginning of the movie the Eagles play the Cincinnati Bengals and aren't a very good football team. In the first regular season game the Eagles play the Dallas Cowboys and loose. Things look grim for the Eagles but in the home game versus the New York Giants they come up with a big win.
