When first arriving at the hotel, Lindenbrook asked the desk clerk where he could find Prof. Goetabaug. The desk clerk refused to give Lindenbrook any information about Prof. Goetabaug's room number or his whereabouts. Frustrated with the clerk's reluctance to help, Lindenbrook decided to trick the clerk into revealing Goetabaug's room number. Lindenbrook wrote a note and asked the clerk if she wouldn't mind placing it in Goetabaug's mailbox.

As Lindenbrook started upstairs, he stopped and watched the clerk to see in what mail box she placed the note.

She placed the note in the mailbox for room #29. Lindenbrook, Alec, and Hans then proceeded to Goetabaug's room.

Lindenbrook asked Carla if he could buy all the expedition equipment left in the room, but Carla was so upset with him that she said she'd rather burn it than let him have it. She later gave the equipment to him, providing she be allowed to go on the expedition.

When trying to make their way up a volcano shaft to reach the Earth's surface, Lindenbrook and company had to blow up a rock blocking their path. They made a bomb, placed it next to the rock, then poured a path of gunpowder to use as a fuse. The fuse was blown out before it reached the bomb so Lindenbrook ran back to re-light it.

While doing so, a giant lizard grabbed his leg with its tongue. Alec jumped from behind his protective covering, grabbed a hammer and spike that was nearby, and drove the spike through the lizard's tongue.

Answer: He was totally naked.

That was a very funny scene. Alec landed in a tree near a convent and the nuns couldn't speak English. They kept trying to coax him down, but being naked, he wasn't about to. Alec kept yelling "Pantaloons! Pantaloons! But don't you bring them yourselves, send a friar, or a monk." Alec then fell out of the tree and picked up a sheep to cover his naughty bits.
