In the week since the unexplained (to the general populace) disappearances, chaos has erupted around the world. With rampant looting and violent disorder, martial law has come into effect in most countries around the globe. The film opens with Buck Williams making a newscast, saying, "It's been a week since the greatest disaster the world has ever seen."

The core group of protagonists from "Left Behind: The Movie" have formed a group to fight the antichrist, calling themselves the Tribulation Force; they are GNN telejournalist Buck Williams, Pastor Bruce Barnes, pilot Rayford Steele and his daughter Chloe.

Answer: The Western (Wailing) Wall

The Western Wall is sacred to both Muslims and Jews, with both religious groups believing the wall to be a remnant of ancient buildings. The Jewish people believe it to be the only remaining portion of Herod's temple, while the Muslims call it the Al-Buraq Wall, believing it to be the place where Muhammad tied his horse (named Al-Buraq) while he ascended to heaven to speak with God.

In the film, no explanation is given by authorities as to how the people were burned at the Wailing Wall, but they have deemed the area off-limits for everyone's protection. What Pastor Barnes finds in scripture is a reference to 'two witnesses' - who he believes are the reason the Wailing Wall has been shut down.

Revelation 11: 3-6 says, "And I will appoint my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth." They are "the two olive trees" and the two lampstands, and "they stand before the Lord of the earth. If anyone tries to harm them, fire comes from their mouths and devours their enemies. This is how anyone who wants to harm them must die. They have power to shut up the heavens so that it will not rain during the time they are prophesying; and they have power to turn the waters into blood and to strike the earth with every kind of plague as often as they want."

Answer: Rabbi Tsion Ben-Judah

We learn a little later in the movie that Rabbi Ben-Judah plans to announce that Nicolae Carpathia fulfills the biblical signs foretelling the coming of the Messiah. Even though Rabbi Ben-Judah is touted as being one of the world's leading religious scholars, he nevertheless falls under Nicolae's mind-altering spell, and is ready to announce the falsehood to the world.

It actually happens the other way around. Nicolae, already acquainted with Buck, is continually impressed with Buck's status as a trusted newsman, and he sends his assistant Steve Plank to ask Buck to contact him as soon as possible.

After waiting too long to respond, Nicolae comes to Buck personally at his apartment building (his elevator mysteriously brings him to the roof instead of down to the main floor), and asks Buck to be the official voice of GNN.

Answer: Coworker

Chris was Rayford's regular co-pilot and colleague before the rapture, and was co-pilot to Rayford on the flight when it happened. Chris thought that there was no reason to live anymore with his entire family having disappeared. Rayford convinced him that his family was, in fact, with God and that the only way to see them again was to accept Christ himself.

Having accepted a plea from United Nations delegates to take on more power in guiding the world through this chaotic time, Nicolae slowly begins to consolidate his power - creating a unified one-world currency, a one-world religion, and controlled news broadcasts.

He appeals to Buck's desire for a free press that holds leaders accountable, and convinces Buck to take on the job as Nicolae's lead news anchor.

Answer: Ivy Gold, Buck's personal assistant

Ivy Gold came from New York (the location of GNN's head office) to work with Buck as he stayed in Chicago. Without a place of her own to stay, Buck offered that she could 'crash' at his place. When Chloe comes to visit Buck, she answers the door dressed in a bathrobe, and Chloe makes the assumption that she is Buck's fiancée. They eventually work out the misunderstanding.

Despite efforts to convince Steve Plank of his intentions, Buck does not get approval to approach the Witnesses at the Western (Wailing) Wall. Buck and Rayford get Rabbi Ben-Judah (under the antichrist's influence) to accompany them using the same argument they tried with Mr. Plank (discrediting the Witnesses). As they approach the guards at the checkpoint, the soldiers try to stop them, when a miracle occurs - the soldiers freeze in place and Buck and Ben-Judah are able to approach the Witnesses without a problem. Upon hearing them speak, the spell on Ben-Judah is broken, and he knows the truth regarding the Messiah.

The moment Ben-Judah realizes the truth, the scene unfreezes, and the soldiers begin to shoot at them - until the two Witnesses fry them with fire from their mouths (as described in the Revelation passage).

Answer: Rayford Steele

Knowing what will happen, Rayford disables the communication links on Global Community One, allowing enough time for Rabbi Ben-Judah to make his full announcement before Nicolae is able to work around the issue and cut the transmission.

In a rage, Nicolae cries out against God, saying "This is MY time, not yours!"

With a victory against the antichrist, the members of the Tribulation Force are able to rest easy for a time, taking the time to worship and to be a comfort to one another. They know that the Tribulation is going to get worse... much worse.
