Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Young Mr. Frodo here, he's cracking!"

Answer: The Gaffer

This is from the new scene in the Green Dragon. An old Hobbit around the table says that Bilbo is cracked, and the Gaffer, (Sam's Dad), says that Frodo's cracking!
2. "What do they eat when they can't get Hobbit?"

Answer: Merry

This is from the new scene when the four Hobbits and Aragorn, (AKA Strider), are walking through the marshes on their way to Rivendell. Merry is being eaten up by mosquitoes and flies.
3. Fill in the Blank: "Hey Ho to the bottle I go. To heal my heart and drown my woe. Rain may fall and wind may blow, but there still be many miles to go. Sweet is the sound of the pouring rain and the __________. Better than rain or rippling brook is a mug of beer inside this Took!"

Answer: stream that falls from hill to plain

This is a song that Merry, Pip and Frodo sing in the Green Dragon. In my opinion, the new scene in the Green Dragon really adds a lot to the movie. You get a sense of the friendship between the four Hobbits, before they are weighed down with the cares and worries of the Ring and the journey to destroy it.
4. "Bilbo, have you been at the Gaffer's home brew?"

Answer: Frodo

This is from a new scene during Bilbo's birthday party when Bilbo and Frodo are hiding from the Sackville Baggins's. Bilbo is trying to get up the courage to tell Frodo he is leaving, but he's not making much sense. So Frodo thinks he might be drunk and asks if Bilbo's been drinking some of the Gaffer's home brewed ale.
5. "The Fellowship awaits the Ring Bearer."

Answer: Gandalf

This is a new scene as the Fellowship is leaving Rivendell. The Elves are seeing them off, and as they prepare to leave Gandalf makes this statement as he waits for Frodo to take the lead.
6. "Who is she, this woman you sing of?"

Answer: Frodo

This is from the new scene where Aragorn and the four Hobbits are camped outside the marshes. The Hobbits are sleeping, and Aragorn is singing softly to himself about an Elf maiden who fell in love with a mortal Man. Frodo awakes and hears the song and then asks Aragorn who it's about. I like this scene because you get a glimpse into the softer side of Aragorn.
7. "You carry a heavy burden Frodo. Don't carry the weight of the dead."

Answer: Boromir

This is from a new scene when the Fellowship first enters Lothlorien. Aragorn is busy talking to Haldir. Meanwhile Boromir tries to comfort Frodo after the loss of Gandalf. I like this scene because you get to see that Boromir is a good and caring man. He is weak, but he is also good.
8. "Lembas. One bite is enough to fill the stomach of a full grown Man."

Answer: Legolas

This is from a new scene when the Fellowship is preparing to leave Lothlorien. The Elves have given them Lembas which is a sort of Elvish bread. Legolas explains to Merry and Pip what strength the Lembas can give you. After hearing that one bite can fill the stomach of a man, Merry asks Pip how many whole pieces of bread he ate. Pip says "Four" and then he passes gas! This is one of my favorite parts in the movie! (Pip is my favorite character!)
9. "Have you run out of those nice, shiny daggers?"

Answer: Sam

This is from the new gift giving scene. Galadriel gives Merry and Pip daggers, and then gives Sam a length of Elven rope. Sam thanks her, but wonders why he didn't get a dagger too. In the book Sam actually got his rope from some of the other Elves. Galadriel's gift to Sam was actually a box filled with the soil of Lothlorien. I'm not sure yet why they changed it in the movie.
10. "I asked her for one hair from her golden head. She gave me three."

Answer: Gimli

This is from a new scene with Legolas and Gimli as they head down the river in their Elvish boats. Legolas asks what Galadriel's gift to Gimli was and Gimli explains that Galadriel gave him some of her hair. I am glad they put this scene back in. It is plain to see that Gimli fell in love with Galadriel. I think this is when Gimli finally let go of all the hatred he had for the Elves and allowed himself to see what a beautiful people they are. From there his friendship with Legolas grew, and they became the best of friends.
