Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When the bullies are chasing Forrest on their bikes, what does Jenny yell after him?

Answer: "Run, Forrest, run!"

At first, the three bullies just taunt Forrest and he slowly walks away, encumbered by his leg braces. But after the bullies get on their bicycles, Forrest must move away more quickly to escape them. Somehow, he doesn't think of running until Jenny tells him to (or doesn't think he can, but Jenny is always his inspiration). When she does, he can then run so swiftly that the braces on his legs 'magically' fall off and he runs ten times faster than any bicycle!

"Run, Forrest, run" is probably one of the most quoted lines from the film. Jenny also gives Forrest similar advice later in the film, when she learns Forrest is going to Viet Nam. He heeds that advice and would not have been shot but for the fact that he cannot leave his buddy, Bubba, and goes back to find him.
2. Where are Jenny and Forrest when Jenny asks Forrest to kneel down with her and pray that she will become a bird so she can fly far away?

Answer: Hiding in the cornfield behind Jenny's house

We later learn that Jenny wants to fly away because her father is abusing her. Soon after this scene, we find out that officials have learned this fact and Jenny has been taken to live with her grandmother. This pleases Forrest, because Jenny's grandmother's house is closer to his own.

Although we're not sure that Forrest ever totally understood what had happened to Jenny, he must have had some inkling, because after she dies, he sees to it that Jenny's old house is demolished.
3. Forrest goes to college on what kind of scholarship?

Answer: Football scholarship

Although we have earlier learned that Forrest's IQ is a little below normal, he could RUN faster than almost anyone! In fact, during his first college game, he took the football, ran into the end zone and just kept going. Finally the team thought to put up a banner just beyond the end zone that said "Stop, Forrest!"
4. What phrase does Forrest use to describe his relationship with Jenny?

Answer: Just like peas and carrots

Forrest actually says this phrase twice, once right after they first meet on the school bus and later, during one of their many reunions, specifically the one where they meet at the peace rally in Washington, D.C. Forrest was afraid when they had first parted that Jenny was angry with him, but that night, as they walked and talked into the wee hours, he reassures himself that they are again "just like peas and carrots."
5. Which of the following presidents did Forrest NOT personally meet?

Answer: Gerald R. Ford

Forrest first meets President Kennedy after he drank "too many" bottles of soda pop, so when Kennedy asks him how he feels, he tells the President that he "has to pee." (Forrest was never one to lie!) When he meets President Johnson, he shows him where he was shot, which does not offend Johnson, who was famous (or infamous) for once showing off a scar of his own. Forrest meets President Nixon after he returns from his victories playing ping pong against the 'Red' Chinese.

Although Forrest never personally meets President Ford, the film does include clips of the assassination attempt on Ford, as well as the assassination attempt on President Reagan.
6. What does Forrest give to Jenny when they are reunited in Washington, D.C.?

Answer: His Medal of Honor

Jenny is just about to board her bus back to Berkeley, California, when Forrest tells her she should have it. She tries to give it back to him, but he insists she keep it. Later, when she leaves him once again, she will leave this precious gift, which hurts Forrest deeply.
7. When Lt. Dan first meets Forrest and Bubba, they tell him they are from Alabama. Apparently he did not listen too well, as later he states to them that they are from which state?

Answer: Arkansas

He also adds that he once had been to Little Rock and he thought it was a nice city. Neither Forrest nor Bubba correct his error.
8. While Forrest is doing his long cross-country run, snippets of several songs of that era are played. Which of the following do we NOT hear?

Answer: "Runaway", by Del Shannon

Actually, "Runaway" would be of an earlier era than the other three. The fourth song that plays during this sequence is "Against the Wind" by Bob Seger.
9. Who proposes marriage to whom?

Answer: First Forrest, then Jenny

Forrest asks Jenny to marry him first, when she comes to stay with him for a while at his home in Alabama. She refuses, saying that he wouldn't want to marry anyone like her. She later changes her mind when she knows she is terminally ill and that little Forrest will need his father. To her proposal, Forrest simply answers "Okay".
10. Which of these names is engraved on Jenny's headstone?

Answer: Jenny Gump

Forrest buries Jenny under a beautiful tree and gives a very touching (and long for him) speech at the gravesite, saying he will always be there for her. He tells us she died on a Saturday (however the date given as her death date was actually a Monday).
