Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. (1997) "A good conspiracy is unprovable. I mean if you can prove it, it means they screwed up somewhere along the line." - Jerry Fletcher

Answer: Conspiracy Theory

Jerry Fletcher is a tortured, paranoid man who sees conspiracies everywhere. He is also driven by an amazing need to watch over and protect Alice Sutton. What he doesn't realize is that he has every reason to be paranoid, because someone really has been messing with his head, and the fact that he's remembering bits and pieces of it is putting him in serious danger. Richard Donner directed this excellent movie which starred Mel Gibson, Julia Roberts and Patrick Stuart.
2. (2000) "By the way, we had that water brought in especially for you folks...came from a well in Hinkley." - Erin

Answer: Erin Brockovich

After bulldozing him into giving her a job, Erin further pushes her boss, Ed Masry, to take on a very risky class action lawsuit. This is brought by the residents of the town of Hinkley against the Pacific Gas & Electric Company, who have been poisoning their ground water for years.
This remark was made after the lawyers representing Pacific Gas & Electric Company made a ridiculously low settlement offer.
3. (1991) "I can't live without you, and I won't let you live without me." - Martin Burney

Answer: Sleeping With the Enemy

Martin Burney is a very possessive and abusive husband. Laura spends years putting a plan in place that will cause Martin to believe her dead, allowing her to get away from him and start a new life. A chance phone call from an acquaintance innocently reveals part of Laura's scheme, and Martin sets about tracking her down. He says this line to her when he finally catches up with her, just before she kills him.
Joseph Rueben directed this powerful movie that starred Julia Roberts, Patrick Bergen and Kevin Anderson.
4. (1991) "You're a complex hallucination having something to do with my mother, and I don't know why you have wings, but you have lovely legs, and you're a very tiny person, and... What am I saying? I don't know who my mother was, I'm an orphan. And I've never done drugs because I missed the sixties - I was an accountant." - Peter Banning

Answer: Hook

Peter Pan, played by Robin Williams, is all grown up, and he doesn't remember a single thing about Neverland and the Lost Boys. Unfortunately Captain Hook hasn't forgotten, and he's stolen Peter's kids to lure him back for a duel. Tinkerbell has come to get Peter, to take him back to Neverland to rescue his kids, but Peter doesn't believe what he sees. Steven Spielberg delivered this delightful movie that also stars Julia Roberts, Dustin Hoffman, Bob Hoskins, Maggie Smith and Caroline Goodall.
5. (1999) "Look, I guarantee there'll be tough times. I guarantee that at some time one, or both of us is gonna want to get out of this thing. But I also guarantee that if I don't ask you to be mine, I'll regret it for the rest of my life...because I know in my heart that you're the only one for me." - Ike Graham

Answer: Runaway Bride

She has a history of leaving grooms at the altar. He writes an article about her, without substantiating his facts. After she gets him fired, he becomes determined to attend her next attempt to get married, so that he can vindicate what he wrote about her, and get his job back. Of course he falls in love with her, and ends up becoming her next victim himself.

At one point, when they are discussing how her various intended grooms proposed, he suggests this quote as the best proposal.
6. (1998) "Yep, life's a trade off. It's finally legal to smoke dope, but you have to have cancer." - Jackie "Are you dying?" - Isabel "Not today." - Jackie

Answer: Stepmom

Jackie Harrison is a bitterly divorced woman, who hates her ex-husband's new fiancée. Unfortunately, Jackie is also dying of cancer, and has to get past her hatred, to train this interloper how to raise her children after she's gone. This exchange occurs when Isabel first learns that Jackie has the dreaded disease.
7. (2001) "Is that a gun in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?" - Gwen Harrison "Actually, it really is a gun." - Eddie Thomas (taking the gun out and shooting Gwen.)

Answer: America's Sweethearts

Gwen and Eddie used to be America's most popular couple, both on and off screen. Then Gwen left Eddie for another man, and Eddie had a nervous breakdown. Now they have to get together to advertise the release of their last film together, and Eddie has many interesting fantasies (including this one) about meeting up with Gwen again, for the first time. Joe Roth directed this hysterically funny film that starred Billy Crystal, John Cusack, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Julia Roberts, Hank Azaria and Christopher Walken.
8. (1990) "What makes you think I'm a lawyer?" - Edward Lewis "You have that sharp, useless look about you." - Vivian

Answer: Pretty Woman

She's a street-walker and he's a multi-millionaire businessman. He hires her to be his companion for a week of business functions, but of course they fall in love. He teaches her to believe in herself, and she teaches him the milk of human kindness, as it were. This exchange occurs on the first night that they meet, when he stops and asks her for directions, and she gets into his car.
9. (2003) "I thought I was headed to a place that would turn out tomorrow's leaders - not their wives." - Katherine Watson

Answer: Mona Lisa Smile

It's the 1950s, and young women are still being taught to take on the traditional roles of wife, mother and homemaker. As a new lecturer at Wellesley, Katherine Watson tries to inspire her students to think beyond the limitations that these roles imply, but finds herself thwarted by everyone, including some of the girls themselves.

This remark is made to the Italian professor, when she believes that she isn't making any difference at all. Of course it turns out that she's wrong...about making a difference.
10. It's bonus question time. Which actress appears in "Steel Magnolias", "Michael Collins", "Ocean's Eleven", and all these other, wonderful movies?

Answer: Julia Roberts

Born on October 28, 1967, Julia first wanted to be a veterinarian, although she did end up studying journalism. She didn't turn her hand to acting until after her brother Eric achieved some success at the profession, but she soon eclipsed his success.
