Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Body _____ Indemnity

Answer: double

"Body Double" (1984) and "Double Indemnity" (1944)
Both are murder dramas, the first involving a voyeuristic actor and the second a fraudulent insurance representative. Some say "Double Indemnity" is the best movie ever made.
2. Slaughterhouse- _____ Easy Pieces

Answer: five

"Slaughterhouse-Five" (1972) and "Five Easy Pieces" (1970)
The capital 'S' in slaughterhouse was required by the software, and is often used for the film title. That film is a time/consciousness displacement opera, based on Vonnegut's novel. The other is a road trip opera, involving a pianist-turned-oil rigger and his estranged family.
3. The Full _____ Python and the Holy Grail

Answer: Monty

"The Full Monty" (1997) and "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" (1975)
These are two comedies that happen to share title words. "The Full Monty" deals with unemployment in England and its impact on families in a humourous way. Some say "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" is the twelfth best movie ever made. I'm betting they were paid to say it! (By the way, it is the Python gang's take on the King Arthur and the knights of the round table.)
4. Fritz the _____ Ballou

Answer: cat

"Fritz the Cat" (1972) and "Cat Ballou" (1965)
Both are comic presentations. "Fritz the Cat" was the first X-rated cartoon. "Cat Ballou" was wonderfully buoyed by the duet singing of Stubby Kaye and Nat King Cole. I don't think anyone has claimed either of these movies to be great, but I enjoyed them both.
5. Song of the _____ Pacific

Answer: south

"Song of the South" (1946) and "South Pacific" (1958)
Good luck trying to find a copy of "Song of the South". Disney has withheld it because of racial overtones. I saw it in my youth and would love to see and hear "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah" once again. The folk characters in it like Uncle Remus and Br'er Rabbit would be a shame to lose. "South Pacific" also showcases strong characters which probably will never be forgotten.
6. Zabriskie _____ Break

Answer: point

"Zabriskie Point" (1970) and "Point Break" (1991)
"Zabriskie Point" contains music from Pink Floyd and Jerry Garcia (of the Grateful Dead) as part of its 1970 release. That may be the only redeeming value to what some have called the worst disaster of a film ever made (up to that time), but it is watchable and has some great Mohave Desert footage. "Point Break" had a cast of Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze, Lori Petty and Gary Busey and yet it's not an action flick? Actually, there's quite a bit of action from those bank-robbing surfer dudes!
7. Treasure _____ in the Sky

Answer: island

"Treasure Island" (1950 and others) and "Island in the Sky" (1953)
One has pirates the other has pilots. Now a twist: it is the pilots who become castaways in one and the pirates who are in charge in the other. Next up: "Sky Island Pirates Become Treasure Hunter Pilots". Hollywood, are you listening?
8. Gentle _____ Hur

Answer: ben

"Gentle Ben" and "Ben Hur"
"Gentle Ben" began as "Gentle Giant" and morphed into "Gentle Ben" the TV series which later produced a couple of movies under the "Gentle Ben" moniker. The 1959 "Ben Hur", with a few other movie versions and its TV series too, will be most remembered for its chariot race between Ben Hur and Messala, which some consider the most exciting few minutes in film history.
9. Earth Girls Are _____ Come, Easy Go

Answer: easy

"Earth Girls Are Easy" (1988) and "Easy Come, Easy Go" (1967)
Two comedies this time: one used schtick and visual impact while the other used Elvis Presley impact to tell their stories. The make-up of "...Easy" is said by some to be the best ever done in Hollywood. It also contains several music video scenes. Too bad Elvis didn't get a chance to do music videos.
10. Journey to the Center of the _____ Girls are Easy

Answer: earth

"Journey to the Center of the Earth" and "Earth Girls are Easy"
"Earth..." is said ... make-up ... has been said before. What wasn't said is that it is about aliens coming to Earth. Earthmen going to an alien place is what "Journey to the Center of the Earth" is about and in the 1959 version of the Jules Verne classic, along with "Ben Hur", helped make that year one of Hollywood's finest.
