Answer: Ron Howard

Ron Howard also worked on "Happy Days" with the writers of "EDtv", Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel. Though he had never worked with some of the actors before, he thought of the movie as a bit of a reunion with some actors he had worked with on films like "Gung Ho" and "Apollo 13".

3. In keeping with tradition, director Ron Howard cast his brother Clint as a cameraman in the movie.

Answer: False

He was cast as the video/camera director. He was in a van the whole time. Clint also suggested he get a hair piece for this movie since he was always bald in other roles. His brother Ron agreed somewhat but added the twist of hair plugs gone wrong, which he referred to in the movie as 'doll hair'.
4. What type of vehicle did Ray use for his dog-washing business?

Answer: Camry

The story of Ray's short-lived dog washing business was told by Ed at a bar where TrueTV was doing interviews to find the person to star in their new reality show. Ray was doing the interview in hopes to be the one, but the executives liked Ed better and brought him in for a second interview.
5. Which popular TV Show Host did NOT make an appearance in this movie?

Shari saw Ru Paul on a TV at a hair salon. Ed's brother Ray was shown on the Bill Mahr show talking about his book. Jay Leno was shown twice. That was actually filmed in front of a live audience and was one of Matthew McConaughey's first interviews in that kind of setting.
6. Who was Ed's favorite actor?

Answer: Burt Reynolds

It was Matthew McConaughey's idea that this would be Ed's favorite actor. When we first learned this he was at work at the video store and he suggested "Smokey and the Bandit" to two teens who made fun of it, so he threw them out. The very first shot in the store was a close-up of two of Don Knott's movies on display at the counter, placed on purpose by Ron Howard.
7. Who played Ed's real father Hank who came back after Ed's became famous?

Answer: Dennis Hopper
