Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What state does Josie and her kids move to?

Answer: Minnesota

Minnesota is where Josie was born and raised. Josie and her kids move to Minnesota to live with her parents to get her away from her abusive husband and to get a high-paying job at a mine. Her dad is not too pleased that his grown daughter is moving in with them.

He is also not too thrilled that she gets a job at a mine because he believes that only men should work at mines. Josie knows that this isn't ideal, but it's better than living with her abusive husband.
2. What is the name of the mine that Josie gets a job at?

Answer: Pearson

Josie's old friend, Glory, helps Josie get a job at a mine which will pay her very well. Josie, however, learns that women are not treated well at the mine. They tolerate it anyway, because they'd rather be treated badly at their job than have no job or income at all. Glory warns Josie that you have to have "gator skin" to work at the mine, meaning that you have to be very tough.

The owner of the mine meets Josie early in the movie and introduces himself as Mr. Pearson and tells Josie to go to him if she has any problems.
3. Who assaults Josie at the mine in the powder room?

Answer: Bobby Sharp

Bobby Sharp is an ex-boyfriend of Josie. When they were teenagers, he abused her. Later in their lives, he witnessed a teacher raping her and he did nothing. Even later in their lives, Bobby asks Josie to come to a deserted part of the mine, where he assaults her. This is the final straw for Josie, and she quits working at the mine.
4. What part of the mine does a woman other than Josie get assaulted?

Answer: In the portable john

When a woman gets in the portable john, the other men get the left and right side of it and rock it back and forth. The woman screams, demanding them to stop and this gets the attention of a couple of good men, but there are not enough good men there to stop it. The men eventually push the john over. The woman comes out of it, crying, as one of the good men consoles her.
5. The owner of the mine reassures Josie that he will take care of any complaints that she has. Is he true to his word?

Answer: No

After several instances of assault against Josie and the other women, Josie files a complaint to Mr. Pearson, who had previously told her that he will protect the women at the mine. However, Mr. Pearson invites the bad manager, Arlen Pavich, to the meeting and he lets Josie know that he believes Mr. Pavich's lies about her promiscuity. Mr. Pearson is ready to accept her resignation letter, but she doesn't resign just yet. Later, she does resign, after Bobby attacks her.
6. Glory develops a disease named after what famous baseball player?

Answer: Lou Gehrig

This happens in the movie because, in real life, one of the women died before the case was complete and successful. Glory does not die, but she develops a hole in her throat so she can't talk. At the end of the movie, the man that speaks for her says that Glory is on Josie's side.
7. What is the name of Josie's lawyer?

Answer: Bill White

Bill White is a friend of Glory. He advises Josie to get other women on her side so they can file a class action sexual harassment case. Initially, the other women refuse because they don't want to get fired. Eventually, Glory and enough women join the case.
8. Whose wife berates Josie at her son's hockey game?

Answer: Bobby Sharp

Somehow, a woman-abuser like Bobby Sharp got a wife. Furthermore, for some reason, she believe his lies. Bobby Sharp had been spreading rumors that Josie is promiscuous and that she had attempted to seduce him. His wife publicly berates her at Sammy's hockey game. To make matters worse, their daughter informs Josie that Sammy has gotten in their car and didn't want to tell her. Josie drags Sammy out of the car, and Sammy, also believing the lies that he had been told, berates his own mother. Josie starts screaming, but who wouldn't?
9. What man, after saying disrespectful things about Josie earlier in the movie, stands up for her at the union meeting?

Answer: Hank Aimes

Hank, Josie's father, was ashamed of Josie because of her supposed promiscuity and because she took a job at the mine which he thought was only for men. His wife (Josie's mother) is furious at the way he talks about his own daughter and she leaves him. Hank changes his tune at a union meeting.

When Josie tries to speak up, none of the other men let her. Her father then speaks up to admonish his co-workers for the way they treat women, and he tells them that the only person he is proud of is Josie.
10. Who is Sammy's real father?

Answer: Paul Lattavansky

Paul Lattavansky is a science teacher who raped Josie when she was 16, which caused her to be pregnant with Sammy. Bobby Sharp witnessed the attack, but he did nothing. In court, he initially denies that he saw the attack, but Bill White gets him to admit that he saw it and he did nothing because he's afraid of what would have happened if he did anything. Hank attacks Paul in the courtroom, but this only causes the judge to throw them out. Sammy thinks his mother was lying, but Glory's husband assures him that she is telling the truth and that she really must have cared about Sammy if she didn't abort him. Josie talks with Sammy and they hug.

In the courtroom, several women and even many men stand up with Josie, and the women win the case and become rich.
