A flibbertigibbet is defined as being a gossip or talkative person. Meg Ryan's second character, Angelica calls herself a flibbertigibbet when she first meets Joe at the airport, and in the evening when she drops him off at his hotel. She refers to herself that way because her father, Graynamore has given orders that she not be told any details of Joe's trip as she will probably blab.

Meg Ryan's third character, Patricia, Graynamore's daughter, and Angelica's half-sister is Captain of Tweedle Dee, the boat that is set to transport Joe to the island of Waponi Woo. The name of the boat is mentioned Joe's first night aboard while he and Patricia are having dinner. Unfortunately, the Tweedle Dee later sinks after being struck by lightening.

Joe and Patricia plunge into the volcano together, hand in hand. Both are spewed out of the volcano, unharmed, and they land in the ocean. Once again, the two depend on Joe's luggage as a raft as they float into the unknown. Patricia says: "I wonder where we'll end up", and Joe answers with a line Patricia said earlier on the boat: "All I want to do is sail away...away from the things of man."
