While Penelope and Max are still getting to know each other (before seeing each other face to face), she tells him she wants to be a horticulturist when she and Max are playing chess.

While Max and Penelope are still getting to know each other (before meeting face to face), he tries to use a lacquered toad as a harmonica. Penelope then suggests he is musical, but he will not tell her what he plays, so she wants to guess by having him play different instruments. Max is shown playing the bass, saxophone, drums, guitar, and piano.

It is later shown in the movie that Max really does play the piano, but he is either out of practice or does not want to end his time with Penelope, so he does not play it well around her the first time.

The Daily is shown several times when Lemon is designing the cover stories on Penelope and in the background of his office when meeting with both Edward and Max. It is also shown when reporting the various escapades of Penelope when she is out on the town.

After her failed wedding attempt with Edward, Penelope runs to her room, with her mother Jessica behind her. Jessica tries to convince Penelope to go back to finish the wedding as it's her last chance to be normal. Penelope then says she's fine with herself the way she is, breaking the curse. Edward only ever wants to marry Penelope for his public image, thinking her hideous. Jessica isn't able to see past her own troubles with the disfiguration, and Max can't save her, even though he does love her, because he is not a blue-blood.

This is the main plot of the movie.

Earlier in the movie, Max suggested that he and Penelope leave and get drinks at the Cloverdilly. Later in the movie, when Penelope has run away, she sees the Cloverdilly and decides to stop and get a drink. It is here she meets Annie and Jack, and she revisits the Cloverdilly several times throughout the remainder of the movie.

Nick Frost is shown to be the real Max Campion when Lemon visits him in jail. Lemon is mistaken when he originally goes to where Max (and Johnny) play poker, where they are sitting at the same table. Simon Woods plays Edward Vanderman. Peter Dinklage plays Lemon. Richard E. Grant plays Penelope's father, Franklin.

During the scene when Penelope and Max first see each other, it is revealed, albeit not expressly, that Max cannot save her because he's the wrong guy. This is later explained, by Lemon and Wanda, that he isn't really Max, right before Penelope's attempted wedding.

However, Max (really Johnny) has fallen in love with Penelope through the course of the movie, but he thinks he can't save her. He leaves so she can get rid of her curse.

Answer: She says she thought he didn't play the piano and he realizes it is her.

Penelope tries to ask Max (really Johnny) how he really feels about Penelope, without giving away it is her at the Halloween party while she is wearing a Penelope mask. He begins to wonder about her when she keeps questioning him and his feelings. She gives it away when she sees the piano and exclaims that she didn't think he could play.

At that point, he knows that she was the only one who would have known that.

Annie saves Jack the bartender (as he's listed in the credits) a seat at the wedding. Annie and Jack have an interesting relationship throughout the movie, as it is never expressly stated, but it appears that they have some feelings toward each other.

They both mention when they appear at the wedding that they're glad it's not them getting married. Furthermore, Jake is the witch/butler for the Wilherns. Max/Johnny is Penelope's true love. Lemon is the newspaper photographer.

Answer: Static cling

Alice (one of the students) is very sad that she didn't dress up as Penelope; while Penelope is extremely grateful at least one of the girls did not dress up as Penelope. Later at the club where Penelope goes to meet Max (Johnny) near the end of the movie, we see several people dressed up as skeletons. Annie is dressed up as a bumblebee.
