Gene Hackman appears in this film a total of three times as Lowell Kolchek. The first time is at the beginning of the film directing the movie within a movie, the second time is when Suzanne has to go to looping to fix the aforementioned film, and the third time is at the end of the movie when he directs Suzanne's music video.

Jack, played by Dennis Quaid, drives up to the emergency room entrance and yells, "Delivery! I'm dropping someone off!". Prior to this scene we see Jack waking up at his home with Suzanne sleeping next to him. Apparently they have had a little too much fun the evening before, and as he tries to wake Suzanne he sees that she is unresponsive. Jack, being the playboy that he is made out to be during the course of this film, doesn't want his name mentioned to the admitting nurse, so he quickly scurries off, not to be heard from until later on in the film.

While Suzanne and Jack are walking on the set of Suzanne's film "L.A. Beat", Jack asks Suzanne if she is going to the reunion. Suzanne says, "Oh, you went to Beverly High!", to which Jack responds, "Well of course, where did you think I knew you from"?

Suzanne starts a conversation by telling her mother that the producers of the new film wanted her to take a drug test. Suzanne wants to know how the discussion went from her drug test to her mother's problems.

Actor Conrad Bain plays Suzanne's grandfather. He is seen only briefly during the course of the film, but he usually steals the scene. He always seems to be annoyed with his talkative wife, always trying to end one of her stories with "yap yap yap yap yap"! Mr. Bain is best known as Phillip Drummond on "Different Strokes", which ran from 1978 to 1986.

Jack says this to Doris as they are waiting for Suzanne to come downstairs. He then takes Suzanne to his ranch for a passionate date.

Hilarious line, although Doris does not seem to be amused. Doris seems to be struggling with her advancing age and the fact that her daughter is now a grown woman.

Suzanne sees her doctor again later in the film while her mother is in the hospital. The movie suggests that the two would become romantically involved later on.

Answer: Carrie Fisher

This film is based upon the book of the same name by Carrie Fisher. Fisher also wrote the screenplay which leads one to believe that it could only be based upon the real life events between her and her famous mother Debbie Reynolds.

Answer: "Like war buddies."

After Doris has her car accident, Suzanne rushes to the hospital to tend to her mother. A remark is made that they only really seem to come together in times of trouble. After hearing this, Sid, who is laying in the next bed watching television says, "Like war buddies". Suzanne responds with "Sid speaks!". The actor playing Sid is Sidney Armus.
