Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "The World's End", Gary convinces his childhood friends to recapture their youth by completing the "Golden Mile", having a pint at each of the twelve pubs in their home town. They start at "The First Post", but are dismayed to find that the second pub looks eerily identical. What's the name of the second pub?

Answer: The Old Familiar

"The World's End" (2013) stars Simon Pegg and was written by Pegg and director Edgar Wright. While it does feature a pub crawl, it also features an alien invasion and most of the townspeople have been replaced by androids.

The film is filled with symbolism and foreshadowing. Not only do the twelve pub names reflect the plot, but just about everything else is significant as well. For example, except for side streets (which the filmmakers could not control), all of the cars in the town parking lots are Vauxhall Amperas, which are electric cars. This suggests both the uniformity of the town and that everyone is an android.
2. Why can't the group get a drink at "The Famous Cock", the third pub?

Answer: Gary was banned for life as a teenager.

Initially upset because being ejected from the pub means he can't have a pint at all twelve pubs, Gary salvages the night by stealing a drink off of one of the tables outside the pub.
3. A nasty fight in the bathroom of "The Cross Hands" results in the group finding out that some of the townspeople are androids. What color fluid comes out when these creatures are damaged?

Answer: Blue

This film is the third in the "Three Flavours Cornetto" trilogy of films by Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright, in each of which a character eats a Cornetto ice cream cone with a color that reflects the plot. The others are "Shaun of the Dead" (2004, a red strawberry cone for the zombies/blood), and "Hot Fuzz" (2007, a blue vanilla cone for the police). "The World's End" has a green mint chocolate chip cone for the aliens.

While many of the same actors and crew are in each movie and there are some shared gags, the films are not connected.
4. Not wanting to appear concerned, the group decides to act like nothing is wrong and continues to "The Good Companions". Earlier they met Sam, who is related to one of them. Which companion is Sam's brother?

Answer: Oliver

At "The Old Familiar", Oliver gets a call from Sam and asks if she got lost on the ring-road again.

Near the end of the film, after Gary sends Sam away for her own safety, she returns to rescue the guys, but explains she got lost on the ring-road.
5. At "The Trusty Servant", Gary tries to figure out what's going on by talking with the Reverend Green, who used to be Gary's what?

Answer: Drug dealer

Trevor "The Reverend" Green doesn't sell drugs anymore; he has "a proper job in a proper office." He tries to explain to Gary that the townspeople aren't robots, but he says too much and gets a phone call from his "supervisor".
6. At "The Two-Headed Dog", the guys come up with a name for "the robots who aren't robots". What word do they choose?

Answer: Blanks

Sam later comes in with her friends, the twins. The twins are Blanks and fight Sam and Gary.

The costumes of the characters are important. Oliver and Peter are wearing blue, and both end up as Blanks. Steven and Sam both wear red and eventually become a couple. Gary is so intent on recapturing his youth that he is wearing the same outfit he wore as a teenager.
7. Three women the guys knew as teens try to seduce them in "The Mermaid". The seductive ladies are very tempting, because they look like teenagers and are dressed in what sort of outfits?

Answer: School uniforms

The gang refers to Erika Leekes, Tracy Benson and Becky Salt as the "Marmalade Sandwich", since they are two blondes and a redhead in the middle. When they are in "The Cross Hands", Andy remarked that he fantasizes about them as they were as teenagers, dressed in school uniforms.
8. A swarm of enemies attacks the heroes at "The Beehive". Andy starts the fight by attacking Oliver. How did he know Oliver had been replaced?

Answer: His birthmark

At "The Cross Hands", Oliver told them that he had his birthmark removed by laser surgery. The birthmark was shaped like the number "6" and was the reason his friends nicknamed him "O-Man".

Unfortunately, the film makes an error when it claims that birthmarks are coded in DNA. That's not true.
9. Which character is unconscious and needs to be carried in to "The King's Head"?

Answer: Gary

Gary had just banged his head against a beam multiple times to prove he was human, but Andy knocked him unconscious in an attempt to end the pub crawl.

It's a little more obvious once you realize that all of the main characters have royal surnames: Gary King, Andy Knightley, Steven Prince, Peter Page, and Oliver and Sam Chamberlain.

The sign for the pub in the movie is a portrait of Simon Pegg (who plays Gary King) dressed as a king.
10. While the last pub is "The World's End" (where the world as we know it comes to an end), the penultimate pub is "The Hole in the Wall", where one of the gang drives Gary's car through the wall of the pub. What do they call the car?

Answer: The Beast

Peter sold Gary the Beast in 1989 for 300 quid. It's had a lot of work done, but it's still the same car, according to Gary.

At the end of the film, Gary enters a post-apocalyptic pub with android versions of his friends and orders water, just like Andy says in an earlier conversation at "The First Post".
