Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of the movie, Corey Woods (Fred Savage) is considering running away. What state are he and his half-brother, Jimmy, from?

Answer: Utah

Corey lives with his brother, Nick (Christian Slater) and father, Sam (Beau Bridges). His half-brother, Jimmy (Luke Edwards), has been put into a facility for traumatized children. Corey decides he wants to run away to California, smuggles Jimmy out of the facility, and the road trip is underway!
2. How did Jimmy's twin sister die?

Answer: Drowned

Jimmy was so traumatized by his sister's drowning that he rarely speaks and obsessively stacks things. His half-brother, Nick, was supposed to be watching the kids the day Jennifer drowned. Jimmy and Jennifer's mother, Christine, has never really forgiven Nick for this.
3. We see Jimmy play his first video game in the bus depot. What is the name of the game?

Answer: Double Dragon

Corey tries to hold Jimmy's attention by having him play "Double Dragon." Jimmy scores 50,000 points on his first try and piques the interest of Haley Brooks (Jenny Lewis). Haley and Jimmy then compete for the high score, wagering Haley's bus ticket, and Jimmy beats Haley. All of the other Nintendo games listed as choices are featured in the movie.
4. Haley points out that Jimmy has a gift when it comes to video games. What is the name of the tournament she suggests Jimmy enter?

Answer: Video Armageddon

The name of the tournament is referenced several times throughout the movie. Initially, Haley shows Corey an ad for "Video Armageddon", and the ad is also shown later by Lucas (Jackey Vinson) to Sam and Nick. At the actual tournament, an announcer keeps mentioning "Video Armageddon" and there is a "Video Armageddon" banner on the building. Haley suggests that Jimmy enter the tournament after seeing him play "Ninja Gaiden."
5. Jimmy's first real challenge comes in the form of another competitor named Lucas. Lucas demonstrates the raw power of the Power Glove by playing what game?

Answer: Rad Racer

After pointing out that he owns 97 Nintendo games, Lucas tackles the first level of "Rad Racer." Jimmy is upset over Corey's display of affection towards Haley and ends up not challenging Lucas. It is interesting to note that before Lucas begins the game, he punches some buttons on the Power Glove that match the five-note synthesizer music made famous in "Close Encounters of the Third Kind."
6. What city does Haley Brooks hail from?

Answer: Reno

Haley initially tells Corey that she and her father have a big house in Reno. As the story unfolds, we find out they live in a trailer outside of Reno because her deceased mother gambled all of the family's money away. Haley is hoping Jimmy will win the video game tournament so that they can split the money and she and her dad can buy a new house.
7. While trying to find the kids, Sam and Nick stop at a roadside motel. What game does Sam stay up all night playing, ultimately obtaining the "scroll weapon?"

Answer: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Initially offput by video games, we see Sam warm to them over the course of the movie. Sam is also shown playing "Zelda II: The Adventures of Link." "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" was released in 1989, and the scroll weapon can first be found in Area 3 of the game. "R.C. Pro-Am" and "Super Mario Bros. 2" are also featured in the movie.
8. Throughout the course of the movie, Jimmy and Corey are being tracked by Putnam (Will Seltzer). When he finally catches up to them in a hotel, what body part does Haley claim he touched on her, allowing the kids to escape?

Answer: Breast

Corey and Haley catch up to Putnam in the hotel arcade and see he's found Jimmy and is planning to return him home. As a last ditch effort to thwart him, Haley screams "He touched my breast!" Security removes Putnam from the hotel, and the kids realize they are no longer safe there.
9. Does Jimmy win the video game competition?

Answer: Yes

After winning the first round of gameplay by achieving a high score in "Ninja Gaiden", Jimmy is matched against Lucas and one other finalist. "The Wizard" was used by Nintendo to unveil "Super Mario Bros. 3" for the first time, and although none of the competitors have had the opportunity to play the game, Jimmy still manages to win "Video Armageddon."
10. On the way home, the family stops at a roadside tourist attraction that features sculptures. What are these sculptures of?

Answer: Dinosaurs

Some of Jimmy's emotions about Jennifer were tied to memories of the family vacationing in California. We see the family stop in Cabazon, California, and visit the Cabazon Dinosaurs. These are two dinosaur sculptures that were created by Claude Bell featuring an Apatosaurus and a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Jimmy leaves a lunch box with memories of Jennifer behind inside one of the dinosaurs, signifying putting Jennifer to rest in a place that she is happy.
