'ROTK'- Aragorn and the Paths of the Dead Quiz

Answer: Both Gandalf and Elrond

Gandalf tells Aragorn just before leaving Rohan for Minas Tirith, "You must come to Minas Tirith by another road. Follow the river. Look to the black ships." Later at Dunharrow, Elrond comes to see Aragorn and tells him "...in secret he sends another force which will attack from the river.

A fleet of corsair ships sails from the south. They'll be in the city in two days." Elrond tells Aragorn this to stress the fact that they need more men, because they are riding to battle, but not to victory. Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and the Army of the Dead capture the fleet and sail the ships to the harbor.

Answer: enthusiastic

The men are all very subdued and wary of being near the haunted mountain. Legolas says, "The horses are restless, and the men are quiet." Eomer replies, "They grow nervous in the shadow of the mountain." After Legolas identifies the Dimholt Road, Eomer replies, "None who venture there ever return. That mountain is evil".

Answer: murderers, traitors

Aragorn can't believe that Elrond would want to call upon them to fight because they believe in nothing and answer to no one.

Answer: pledge

Legolas is explaining how the men of the mountain came to be cursed by Isildur as he, Aragorn and Gimli travel through the Dimholt.

Legolas reads, "The way is shut. It was made by those who are dead. And the dead keep it. The way is shut". This is repeated by the King of the Dead later.

After the horses are spooked and run off, Aragorn says, "I do not fear death", and enters the Paths of the Dead, followed quickly by Legolas. Gimli hesitates, noting that he'd never hear the end of it if he didn't go with them, since Legolas went in.

Aragorn answers his question with, "One who will have your allegiance."

The King of the Dead informs Aragorn, "The dead do not suffer the living to pass." Aragorn replies that, "You WILL suffer me!".

Answer: the King of Gondor

"None, but the King of Gondor may command me!" is the King of the Dead's response to Aragorn summoning him to fulfill his oath. Aragorn proves who he is by blocking the King's sword with Anduril, which the King of the Dead soon finds at his throat.

Answer: "It has been remade."

Arwen has asked her father to reforge the shards of Narsil. Elrond travelled to see Aragorn at Dunharrow to give him Anduril, the Flame of the West. I'm aware that the line "That blade was broken" is a bit debatable. Most believe it to be blade, but the English subtitles on the DVD show "That line was broken", and it does sound more like 'line'. Whether the King of the Dead is talking about the blade or the line of kings, Aragorn's answer is the still the same, "It has been remade".

Answer: honor

Gimli also tells Aragorn he's wasting his time, after Aragorn's request of, "Fight for us and regain your honor", is met with silence.

Answer: 3

"Fight for us and regain your honor. What say you?" A pause, and again, "What say you?" Following Gimli's comment about them having no honor in life or in death, Aragorn continues. "I am Isildur's heir. Fight for me, and I will hold your oaths fulfilled. What say you?"

Answer: Black Ships

A group of Orcs sent to meet the Corsairs of Umbar are greatly surprised when at first they see a man, a dwarf and an elf disembark from the Black Ships, followed by the Army of the Dead.

Answer: No

Despite Gimli's comment, "Bad idea. Very handy in a tight spot, these lads. Despite the fact they're dead" (which earned him a nasty look from the King of the Dead), Aragorn holds their oaths fulfilled and releases them after the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.

Answer: "I hold your oath fulfilled."

Aragorn tells them to, "Go, be at peace". The King of the Dead smiles, as he and the Army of the Dead blow away with the wind.
