Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. You see, on screen, a muscular man pointing a gun at a tattooed female. She says to him "Doug, you wouldn't shoot me, would you sweetheart? Sweetheart, after all, we're married!" while slowly drawing a gun stuck in her pants. As she pulls it out, he shoots her between the eyes and says "Consider that a divorce." The word is "Mars". What movie is it?

Answer: Total Recall

'Total Recall' stars Arnold Schwartzenegger in one of his more compelling films. He plays Douglas Quaid, a white collar joe, who constantly dreams of visiting Mars. He goes to Recall, a company that gives you the memories of a lifetime, to have memories of a Mars vacation implanted in his brain.

He discovers that he already has implanted memories, and his life is not his own. After killing a few people, he travels to Mars to learn the truth. He discovers that there is a huge setup to catch a mutant rebel named Quato, with him as the key.

He must fight for survival until he has total recall. The movie is violent and graphic, but does have an interesting story. The face of Johnny Cab, a robot taxi driver, was modeled after Robert Picardo. He played the Doctor on 'Star Trek Voyager'.

The movie 'Total Recall' was based on the Phillip K. Dick short story 'We Remember It For You Wholesale'.
2. You see, on screen, four men dressed in white clothes and black hats walking slowly under a bridge. Their bodies are casting deep shadows against the pavement. They see an old bum lying in the gutter singing 'Molly Malone', and you hear the leader think "There was nothing I hated more than to see a filthy old drunkie, a-howling away at the filthy songs of his fathers and going blurp blurp in between as if it were a filthy old orchestra in his stinking rotten guts." The four men then proceed to beat the bum half to death. The word is "Beethoven". What movie is it?

Answer: A Clockwork Orange

'A Clockwork Orange', directed by Stanley Kubrick, stars Malcolm McDowell as ultraviolet criminal Alex de Large. At the beginning of the film, he and his three droogs rape and fight every night. He then goes home to his loving family and listens to the glorious music of Ludwig Van Beethoven. Thanks to his treacherous droogs, Alex is eventually caught and sent away to prison.

He gets out early in exchange for agreeing to have a radical experiment tried on him. The experiment, a form of mental conditioning, causes him to feel sick whenever he is hit by a powerful emotion. Once he is free, those who he had once tormented torment him.

He eventually jumps out of a window, and this somehow breaks the mental conditioning. He goes back to 'normal' and aligns himself with those who originally administered the experiment.

The original version of this movie was rated X due to its graphic nature. After 'Midnight Cowboy, it was the second movie rated X to be nominated for a best picture Oscar (it didn't win). Stanley Kubrick toyed with the idea of using the Rolling Stones to play the main characters, before he settled on blue-eyed McDowell.

The bodyguard of Alexander, the crippled writer, was later the body of Darth Vader in the Star Wars movies.
3. You see, on screen, a man clad in black leather reaching for a dagger that is in a sheath under his car. As his hand touches the handle, a strangely dressed man with gyro-captain goggles presses a crossbow against the man in leather's head and says, "A fellah, a quick fellah, might have a weapon under there. I'd have to pin his head to the panel." The word is "Wasteland". What movie is it?

Answer: Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior

'The Road Warrior' stars a young Mel Gibson in the title role. He plays a wanderer of the wasteland who finds common folk guarding the most precious item imaginable, gas. He and the common folk must fight off the rabid gangs who prey on them in order to reach Paradise.

This movie is a sequel to 'Mad Max', although there are very few similarities between the two movies. A sequel to 'The Road Warrior' was made called 'Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome'. 'The Road Warrior' is probably the best post-apocalyptic movie ever made. I'd be curious to hear from anyone who has a better choice.
4. You see, on screen, a box-like robot slowly moving towards a nude man and women in an icy cavern. In a voice that sounds like Darth Vader, the box-like robot says, "It is my job...to freeze you." The word is "Sanctuary". What movie is it?

Answer: Logan's Run

'Logan's Run' stars Michael York as Logan 5, a sandman whose job is to kill those who try to run to prolong their life. He is ordered to infiltrate a gang that knows of Sanctuary, a place where all can live in peace and harmony until they die of old age.

At first, he thinks that "There is no sanctuary", but he eventually finds it, and returns to his city in order to show everyone the truth. This is an excellent movie that makes you think. I highly recommend it. Jon Voight was originally slated to play Logan 5, but pulled out in pre-production.

This movie is being remade, and the new version should hit theaters sometime in 2005.
5. You see, on screen, two men in long black trench coats talking in an abandoned building. One is sitting and reading a book written by Yeats. He says to the man standing "But I, being poor, have only my dreams. I have spread my dreams under your feet. Tread softly because you tread on my dreams. I assume you dream, Preston." The man standing then shoots the sitting man in the face. The word is "Prozium". What movie is it?

Answer: Equilibrium

This movie stars Christian Bale, Taye Diggs, and Sean Bean. The movie was only in a limited market in the U.S., so it is not well known. Christian Bale plays a Grammaton Cleric whose job is to kill any who stop taking their Prozium (a strong mood suppressant), or who secretly have kept emotional items.

He lives in a world where all emotions are forbidden. He kills his partner (Sean Bean) who was secretly keeping confiscated emotional items. One night he forgets to take his Prozium and begins to feel emotions.

He must keep this a secret in order to stay alive. He eventually decides to rebel against the system and start a revolution. The guns used by the Grammaton Cleric are the same model as the one that was used by Robo Cop. This is a very well made movie.
6. You see, on screen, a shirtless man lifting up a trench coated man who is clinging to the side of a building. As the shirtless man sets the trench coated man down, he kneels and says, "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe, attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die." He then lets go of a dove he has in his hand and dies. The word is "Unicorn". What movie is it?

Answer: Blade Runner

'Blade Runner' was not a commercial success, but it is considered one of the models for film noir and Goth. 'Blade Runner', directed by Ridley Scott, stars Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard, a blade runner, who hunts rogue androids for a living. What's interesting is that he may be an android himself. Rutger Hauer and Daryl Hannah play android lovers who are searching for a way to extend their life. Rutger Hauer probably gives the best performance of his life as the sympathetic villain Roy Batty. His soliloquy, completely ad-libbed, is one of the most beautiful scenes ever seen in a movie.

The movie was based on the book 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep', written by Phillip K. Dick. I consider this the best science fiction movie of all time, and I strongly recommend that you see it.
7. You see, on screen, a forest, where a woman is talking in Spanish with fear in her voice. A man dressed in combat fatigues translates for the benefit of a muscular man in similar apparel. "She says the jungle... it just came alive and took him." The word is "Hunter". What movie is it?

Answer: Predator

'Predator', directed by John McTeiran, stars Arnold Schwartzenegger as a commando who is sent into a Central American forest to save some downed pilots who have been captured by guerrillas. Instead he finds death and destruction, as a powerful alien begins to pick off his men one by one. Jean Claude Van-Damme originally played the unseen Predator, but quit because he did not like being a mere special effect.
8. You see, on screen, a man in a marshal's uniform and a woman in a lab coat talking. The man asks, "Are you Dr. Lazarus?" She replies, "Yes. Take two aspirin and call me in the morning. That's a doctor joke." He then says to her " I'd like a report of all the incidents in the last six months. I'd like it soon, or I might just kick your nasty *bottom* all over this room. That's a marshal joke." The word is "Polydichloric Euthymol". What movie is it?

Answer: Outland

'Outland' is 'High Noon' in an outer space setting. Sean Connery is the Space Marshal, who has been sent to a miner's colony on Jupiter's moon as the new chief of security. He must deal with slimy administrators and spineless allies in order to explain the strange deaths occurring in the colony.

The strange deaths are being caused by Polydichloric Euthymol, a toxic narcotic being taken by the miners. *bottom* is the sanitized version of the word really used.
9. You see, on screen, a man on a large podium overlooking a massive oil tanker. There are hundreds of people underneath the podium. The man has an eye patch and is smoking a cigarette. He shouts out to the crowd "Dry land is not just our destination, it is our destiny!" The word is "Mariner". What movie is it?

Answer: Waterworld

'Waterworld' is considered one of the most expensive movies of all time. It is also considered one of the biggest flops of all time. It cost upwards of $150 million dollars. The critics hated it, but it's not actually that bad. It stars Kevin Costner as a mariner, a man-fish hybrid, who is a loner until he meets a beautiful woman, and a strange girl who seems to have a map tattooed on her back which leads to the fabled Dryland.

The movie had nicknames like Fishtar and Kevin's Gate, for it was a flop like Ishtar and Heaven's Gate.

The movie had many mishaps during filming. A scene with a slave colony could not be filmed because the set had been sunk by a storm. The science of the movie was flawed as well. It claimed that the polar is caps melted and completely drowned the world.

In reality, if the polar caps melted, the oceans would only rise a few hundred feet. This movie is not nearly as good as 'The Road Warrior' but it is still a fascinating film.
10. You see, on screen, two men talking. One is in a lab coat and has wild white hair, while the other is a young man who everyone thinks is named Calvin Klein. The young man says "Wait a minute, Doc, are you trying to tell me that my mother has got the hots for me? The man in lab coat responds "Precisely." The young man looks a little shaken and says, "Whoa, this is heavy." The man in the lab coat replies, "There's that word again; "heavy". Why are things so heavy in the future? Is there a problem with the earth's gravitational pull?" The word is "Manure". What movie is it?

Answer: Back To the Future

'Back To the Future' stars Michael J. Fox as Marty Mcfly, a teenager, who travels back in time to when his mom and dad were teenagers. The time-machine was built by crazy Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd), a whacked out scientist who builds the time-machine out of a Delorean. Marty must help his future dad find the strength within himself to stand up to a bully (who hates manure) and ask Marty's future mom out.

This is a very good movie with Christopher Lloyd in one of his best roles. Thank you for taking my quiz, and I hoped you enjoyed it. Feel free to send me a message with feedback, either positive or negative. Thank you.
