Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In pursuit of a stolen computer drive, Bond finds himself on top of a moving train, struggling with the man who has taken it. Another agent, who we later learn is Eve Moneypenny, informs M that the train is approaching a tunnel and she will soon lose sight of the men. Moneypenny tells M that she has a clean shot at the thief.

Answer: False

The stolen computer drive holds an extremely valuable list identifying MI6 agents placed undercover and M is desperate to get it back. Eve tells M that she does not have a clean shot. After some discussion about whether she can change her position or not, M tells her to take the shot. Moneypenny replies that she might hit Bond but M most emphatically tells her to take the shot. She does but hits Bond instead.
Wearing his earpiece, Bond hears M tell Moneypenny to take the shot.
Moneypenny is played by Naomie Harris and M is played by the amazing Judi Dench.
2. Sometime after being shot, after a dalliance with a lovely lady, we find Bond at a bar on the beach, playing some kind of drinking game. What dangerous thing does the game involve?

Answer: a scorpion

In his hand Bond holds a glass containing a shot of liquor. Perched on the back of that same hand is a scorpion with tailed poised, ready to strike. The challenge is to down the shot, drop the scorpion and trap it with the upturned, empty glass before it manages to sting you. Bond is able to do this easily.
3. After learning that MI6 had been blown up, Bond decides to return to work. He shows up in M's apartment. What does Bond reply when asked, by M, where he'd been?

Answer: "Enjoying death."

Assuming that he was dead, M wrote an obituary for him, which he had read. She tells him that she didn't think he would like it. Bond acknowledges that he was taking advantage of being thought dead.
He questions M about telling Moneypenny to take the shot and she defends herself by saying that she was weighing the life of one agent against the lives of all the agents on the list. She does not apologise as she believes that it was the only decision she could have made.
4. After putting him back on active duty, M arranges for Bond to meet the new quartermaster, or Q. Because the renovations to the new headquarters are not complete after the explosion, they meet in a museum. After Q identifies himself, Bond flat out tells him that he must be joking. Q asks if it's because he's not wearing a lab coat. What does Bond give as reason?

Answer: "Because you still have spots!"

Q is indeed very young, as Bond alludes to with his reference to pimples, but he is quick to assure Bond that, "Age is no guarantee of efficiency." Q provides Bond with an airline ticket, a gun programmed to only work with Bond's palm print and a small radio transmitter, to call for help. Despite Bond's doubts, Q later proves himself quite admirably.
Q is played by Ben Whishaw.
5. Bond was shot twice on the train, once by the man who stole the drive and more seriously by Moneypenny, as ordered by M. Still in pursuit of the stolen hard drive, how does Bond track down the man who shot him first?

Answer: He digs the bullet fragments out of his chest and has them analysed.

Without any form of freezing, Bond looks into a mirror and digs the bullet fragments out from just below his shoulder. The analysis of the fragments determines that they contain depleted uranium which helps them identify the type of bullet. It turns out that these particular bullets are only used by a few people. From the pictures of those known to use the bullets, Bond easily identifies the computer drive thief as Patrice, a 'gun for hire'. Bond tracks down Patrice while he is doing a job, but Patrice falls to his death before revealing anything. Bond takes a poker chip from Patrice's case and ends up at a casino where he meets Severine who reluctantly works for Silva, the man behind the theft of the hard drive. Patrice is played by Ola Rapace.
6. After fighting his way out of the casino, Bond ends up on a sailboat with Severine, headed to an island where Severine's boss, Raoul Silva, has set up his centre of operations. The island has been deserted and the abandoned buildings and possessions indicate that it happened very quickly. How did Silva gained possession of the island?

Answer: He led the people living there to believe that the island was being poisoned.

While walking through the abandoned buildings, Severine explains that Silva wanted an island of his own. So he used his considerable computer skills to spread the message that a leak from the chemical plant was poisoning the island. People got off as quickly as they could, leaving the island open for him to take over.
Raoul Silva was played by Javier Bardem and Severine was played by Berenice Marlohe.
7. What happens to Severine?

Answer: She is killed by Silva.

Severine's dislike of her employer is very clear. The previous night, at the casino, she asked Bond if he could kill her employer for her. She also spoke to Bond about how fear of this man was the worst kind of fear imaginable. After Bond spends the night with her on the sailboat, Silva's men know she cannot be trusted, so she and Bond are escorted across the island in handcuffs.
After telling Bond who he is, or rather was, and showing off to him, Silva takes them outside. He places a shot of liquor on Severine's head, hands Bond a gun and tells him to shoot the glass, making a contest out of who can do it first. Bond hesitates so Silva yells at him. Bond shoots, deliberately missing.
On Silva's turn he doesn't miss, but he doesn't hit the glass either, and we see it tumble, unbroken, from her head as she falls dead. Silva declares himself the winner.
8. How does Bond get off the island?

Answer: Bond activates his radio transmitter and help arrives via helicopters.

After Severine is shot, Bond manages to kill Silva's guards, taking a gun and turning it on Silva. Silva mocks Bond, asking him if he thinks he can take him back by himself. Bond asks him why he thinks that he is on his own and helicopters appear over the roofs of the abandoned buildings. Bond informs Silva that he summoned help with, "The latest thing from Q branch, called a radio."
9. After escaping from MI6, how is Silva disguised in the subway station?

Answer: as a policeman

Silva has so little trouble escaping from MI6 Bond realizes that it was his plan all along. When Q plugs Silva's laptop into MI6's system, Silva basically gets control of MI6 and escapes in his orange prisoner's jumpsuit. Bond pursues him through the subway tunnels, narrowly missing being squished by a train.

As Silva walks determinedly through the station, he is passed by two men dressed as police. Silva emerges from this encounter holding a box which contains a police uniform, which he changes into.

He boards a waiting subway, a train that Bond almost misses while waiting for Q to tell him whether to get on or not. After disembarking from the train, Silva disappears into a group of police officers and gets away.
10. What is Skyfall?

Answer: the childhood home of James Bond

After Bond realises that they have essentially played into Silva's plans, he decides he has to make it look like he is taking M off the grid. He has Q leave a trail so that Silva can eventually follow them into a trap, in an area where his computer skills will not help. So he takes M north to Skyfall, his family home in an isolated part of Scotland.

They ditch the agency car, because it will have a tracker, and take Bond's old Aston Martin. M makes a sarcastic comment about how the Aston Martin was less conspicuous than her car.
11. While waiting for Silva and his men to arrive, our friends set up a series of booby traps, without benefit of high-tech toys, designed to help even the odds. We see M working on a particularly interesting explosive device involving what standard household item?

Answer: the chandeliers

We see M remove the dust sheets covering the chandeliers, taking out the light bulbs and carefully breaking the glass. Then she covers the exposed wire with a shotgun shell, screws the bulb back in and encloses this with a bag full of pieces of metal and junk. When the light switch is turned on, the shell explodes, sending the pieces of metal flying like shrapnel.
Bond and M are assisted in their efforts by Kincade, an old employee of the Bond family. Kincade is played by Albert Finney.
12. When the first wave of Silva's men arrive, what is the first obstacle they encounter?

Answer: machine gun fire from the Aston Martin

Bond has left the Aston Martin sitting in plain view. As the men walk up the driveway (having left their vehicles at the gate), some of them stop to look at it. Bond, sitting in the car but hunched down below the dash, opens fire. The older Aston Martin, from the days of 'exploding pens' (as Q referred to them), has machine guns hidden below the headlights and Bond manages to take a few thugs out.
13. After the first wave of assailants is dealt with, Bond determines that Silva is not there. How does Silva arrive?

Answer: by helicopter

Not long after determining that Silva is not among the dead, they hear the unmistakable thump-thump of helicopter blades, accompanied by loudly played music - he certainly isn't trying to sneak up on anyone! Bond opens fire on the helicopter which responds in kind, blowing up most of the old house.
14. Realising that they are over-powered, Bond tells Kincade to get M out of there. How do they escape?

Answer: through the priest hole into the tunnel

Earlier in the movie, when they first arrived at Skyfall, Kincade showed M the priest hole and told her that if she got into trouble that was the way to go. He said that the tunnel came out on the moors. Bond tells Kincade to get M out through the priest hole and to meet him at the old chapel. It is while they are walking through the tunnel that we realize that M has been injured.
15. In pursuit of Silva, who is in pursuit of M, Bond is stopped by shots fired at his feet while crossing the frozen pond. He is held at gunpoint by one of Silva's men. How does Bond resolve this situation?

Answer: He grabs the gun and shoots a hole in the ice, causing them to fall into the water.

Silva sees the flashlight bobbing across the moor, so knows where to find M. He speaks to Bond for a minute, but then says, "Mother's calling. I'll give you a goodbye kiss for her," and continues his pursuit. Bond grabs the guy's machine gun and shoots in a circle around where they are standing.

This causes a hole to appear in the ice under their feet, through which they fall. Under water they struggle, but Bond prevails and has to find his way back to the hole in the ice, which he does by shooting off a flare.
