Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We had to wait a while to see Mr. Hitchcock in the 1944 film "Lifeboat", where he appeared as:

Answer: The man in a "Before & After" news ad for weight reduction.

This was one of his "trickiest" cameos, and as usual you had to be paying attention to not miss him.
(He was in the paper William Bendix was reading.) Please excuse
the bad pun - wait - weight.
2. In "Spellbound" (1945) Hitchcock lifted our spirits by appearing as:

Answer: A man coming out of the elevator carrying a violin.

The British call elevators "lifts". Good old Alfred loved music and appeared in several other movies with string instruments... read on!
3. In the 1945 film "Notorious", starring Cary Grant, Hitchcock popped in as:

Answer: A man drinking champagne at a party.

Cary Grant was one of Alfred's favorite leading men, and he appeared
in several of his wonderful suspense movies. Pop refers to the "popping"
of the champagne cork. Pretty corny, huh!
4. In the 1948 film "Rope" Hitch had a walk on as:

Answer: A man crossing the street.

This film featured Jimmy Stewart and its primary focus was
a coffin covered with a buffet dinner. It was his first movie
to be filmed in color. (Get it, WALK ON - man crossing the street)
General groans from all!
5. All aboard!! "Strangers on a Train" from 1951 featured Hitchcock as:

Answer: The man trying to board the train with a bass fiddle.

This was the second film that his daughter Patricia appeared in.
Do you know the other films she was in? Another quiz - another time.
6. In "Dial M for Murder", the 1954 classic, Hitch developed this interesting cameo for himself.

Answer: A man in a class reunion photograph.

This was not his first (or last) time to appear via a photo.
Again with the bad puns - developed --- photo ....
7. Another timely 1954 classic "Rear Window" featured Alfred as:

Answer: A man winding a clock.

Once again Hitchcock used the wonderful Jimmy Stewart for his
leading man. He also continued to indulge his infatuation with Grace Kelly.
Timely = Clock
8. In 1955's "To Catch a Thief" Hitchcock tripped us out as:

Answer: The man sitting next to Cary Grant on the bus.

Although not one of his favorite movies, this helped Grace Kelly
receive the New York Film Critics award for actress of the year.
A very subtle clue "Tripped" as in taking a trip. A little
deceptive - but that's my style - I can be evil sometimes!
9. In the 1963 box office smash, "The Birds", Hitchcock toyed with us once again, appearing as:

Answer: A man leaving the pet shop with two white dogs.

Although Rod Taylor was not Hitchcock's first choice for the lead in this film, can anyone really see Cary Grant doing it? Or James Stewart? It all worked out well, being one of his top grossing films. Most people know this one.
10. The 1966 thriller "Torn Curtain" showed us a gentler side of Hitchcock when he appeared as:

Answer: A man in a hotel lobby with a baby on his lap.

This movie, starring Paul Newman, contained what many thought to be
his most gruesome scene: the murder of the German spy in the kitchen.
Gentle = holding a baby.
