Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. From "Episode I", what does STAP stand for?

Answer: Single Troop Aeriel Platform

STAPs were the upright hovering vehicles used by Trade Federation Battledroids to navigate/scout the forests of Naboo and to provide support for infantry regiments. Two STAPs attacked Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Jar Jar Binks soon after the Jedi landed on the planet.
2. This is perhaps one of the most well known acronyms for "Star Wars" book readers. What does NRI stand for?

Answer: New Republic Intelligence

After the Rebellion liberated Coruscant from the Empire, it became the New Republic. Naturally, the New Republic Intelligence branch was formed to oversee special operations, and to keep track of potentially hostile threats.
3. What is the acronym for the Commission for the Preservation of the New Order?

Answer: COMPNOR

COMPNOR was originally COMPOR (Commission for the Protection of the Republic), which was responsible for brainstorming ways to keep the fragile Republic together during the Clone Wars. COMPNOR was responsible for reinforcing Imperial Ideology in the public, such as human supremacy.

They also made slavery of "lesser species" legal. COMPNOR can be viewed as the governing body that served the Emperor.
4. Which of the following was not created by the Trade Federation?

Answer: LAAT/i

The Super Battle Droid, Armored Assault Tank, and Multi-Troop Transport (SBD, AAT, and MTT respectively) were all commissioned by the Trade Federation. The AATs, beige hovering tanks, and MTTs, brown armored vehicles with internal droid storage racks, were seen in "Episode I". SBDs were introduced in "Episode II" and seen in "Episode III" as well. They are larger, armored forms of the original, flimsy battle droid.

The LAAT/I (Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry) were the Gunships used by Republic forces at the Battle of Geonosis, and many other battles during the Clone Wars. Variants of the LAAT/I include the LAAT/c (used to transport AT-TEs to battlefield locations), and the LAAT/v (used to ferry speeder bikes and combat land speeders).
5. What are we talking about when we say AT-ST?

Answer: A Walker

AT-ST is short for All Terrain Scout Transport. They are tall, two-legged walkers used by the Empire. They were used primarily in the Battle of Endor, on the ground to defend the shield generator ("Episode VI").
6. KDY is a space-faring vehicle manufacturer, famous for what?

Answer: Star Destroyers

KDY stands for Kuat Drive Yards, and is best known for their Star Destroyers. Sienar Fleet Systems created the TIE Fighter, and the Incom Corporation created the X-Wing. The Trade Federation Droid Star Fighters were designed by Xi Char engineers and manufactured by Hror Chall Engineering.
7. What does MT-AT stand for?

Answer: Mountain Terrain Armored Transport

MT-ATs appeared in the novel "Champions of the Force" (by Kevin J. Anderson). They are dropped from orbit in pods similar in design to those of Imperial Probe Droids (seen in "Episode V"), although much larger. They have three sections, like an insect, and eight legs that arch up like those of a spider. They can travel up to 90 km/h over almost any terrain.

They were created by the Imperial Remnant on Carida. An attempt was made by the Imperials to kidnap Anakin Solo, when he was hiding during his early life. The attack failed, and Kyp Durron used the Sun Crusher to detonate Carida's star, destroying the system. There have been no mentions of MT-ATs since.
8. What was the CIS?

Answer: The bad guys in the prequel trilogy

The Confederacy of Independent Systems was formed in secret under the direction of Darth Sidious. Count Dooku was the official head of the Confederacy and leader during the Clone Wars. The Confederacy included many planets that ceded from the Republic, and many corporations, such as the Trade Federation. The Confederacy was revealed to the Republic in "Episode II". During the executions of Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Padme, the Republic Grand Army made its debut, and the Battle of Geonosis ensued, marking the beginning of the Clone Wars.

The Confederacy was created by Darth Sidious, who was also the supreme chancellor of the Republic. The chancellor was given emergency powers. Being the leader of both factions of a galactic war, Darth Sidious was able to manipulate the war and the government into making himself the Emperor. With the CIS conquered and the Republic welcoming the stability of an Empire, he was virtually unopposed in the formation of his regime. However, as his policies shifted to promote more bigoted views, the Rebel Alliance soon formed and eventually defeated the Empire.
9. What do CSF, CORSEC, and ISB all have in common?

Answer: They're all security forces

CSF (Coruscant Security Force), CorSec (Corellian Security Force) and the ISB (Imperial Security Bureau) were all security organizations. The CSF and CorSec served their respective planets while the ISB was a part of COMPNOR, and served the Imperial government directly.
10. Which of the following doesn't belong?

Answer: SFS

The RAS, ISD, and SSD are all capital ships, while SFS is a starfighter manufacturer.

RAS is short for Republic Assault Ship, which were large, triangular ships seen at the beginning of the Clone Wars ("Episode II"). ISD stands for Imperial Star Destroyer, the most common Star Destroyers seen in the prequel trilogy. SSD stands for Super Star Destroyer, 12.8 km long warships. The Executor, Darth Vader's personal capitol ship, as seen in "Episode V" and "Episode VI", was an SSD.

SFS, or Sienar Fleet Systems, is the company that created the TIE Fighter and its offshoots.
