"Starship Troopers" Bugs Galore Quiz

Answer: "Everyone fights, no one quits. If you don't do your job I'll shoot you myself."

This line was the first thing we heard Mr. Racszak say after he joined the Mobil Infantry. Mr. Rasczak was Johnny's favorite teacher from his high school days, before his hometown, Buenos Aires, was destroyed.

Answer: Johnny

Tanker Bugs are the large bugs that can shoot swaths of liquid fire, which can melt most substances, including troopers.

The first Tanker Bug we saw came bursting from the ground. Johnny, saw his fellow troopers trying in vain to kill it. He ran around and up onto a ledge and jumped on top of the Tanker Bug. He shot a lot of rounds into the carapace, making a large hole. He then threw a grenade into it, just before he was flung off. The entire midsection of the bug was blown to pieces, rendering it harmless and dead.

Answer: Dizzy

Rasczak promoted Johnny to Corporal after he defeated the Tanker Bug. Johnny then had to appoint a Squad Leader. He originally asked Ace, but Ace declined, explaining that he had been Squad Leader before and blew it. So Johnny turned to Dizzy, who took the job with much enthusiasm.

Answer: Green

Lt. Rasczak said "I expect the best, and I give the best. Here's the beer, here's the entertainment. Have fun. That's an order!"

As soon as the "entertainment" box was opened, Rasczak threw out a jump ball, but Ace went straight for the clear, neon green violin, which had a slightly electronic quality to it when played. Ace provided the music for the night, while the other troopers partied.

Answer: "Never pass up a good thing"

Dizzy tried to pull Johnny into the dance, but Johnny explained that he "didn't do that anymore". When Dizzy persisted, he threatened to pull rank. Dizzy decided to not push it after that and instead took Watkins' arm.

Mr. Rasczak pulled Johnny over and reminded him of the time when Johnny had asked for some advice. Rasczak finally decided to deliver and told Johnny "Never pass up a good thing".

Johnny then stepped into the dance and requested that Dizzy dance with him. She happily obliged.

Answer: Twenty Minutes

After dancing, Johnny and Dizzy decided to have a little fun with each other, in private. They were just taking off each other's clothes when Rasczak started unzipping the door. Dizzy hastily jumped under the blankets just in time. Rasczak leaned in and told Johnny about the distress call.

He was leaving when he noticed a rather large lump under the blankets and demanded to know who was with him. Dizzy poked her head out and stated her name. Rasczak told them they had twenty minutes and left. The two lovers decided they could still do it in twenty minutes.

Answer: Johnny

The Hopper Bug would jump and glide to its its targets, using its massive wings. In the case of the Sergeant, it swooped down, caught him with its stinger and glided away. In other scenarios, as seen later in the movie, they just swooped down and cleaved off the heads of helpless troopers with their razor sharp wings.

The sergeant was trying to raise the outpost that had sent the distress signal, but couldn't get a response. He was ordered to get to higher ground, which made him a prime target for the Hopper.

Answer: "You wanna live forever?"

As the troopers were scrambling to repel the mass of bugs approaching, you could hear Rasczak yelling "C'mon you apes. You wanna live forever?" to motivate his troops.

Johnny later used a similar line in the final Federal Notice.

Answer: Dizzy

The retrieval ship had just flown into the outpost and the troopers were retreating to it. A large Tanker Bug busted out from under the outpost and was charging up to spray its liquid fire when Dizzy threw a grenade into the bug's mouth, detonating its front half. Dizzy let out a cheer of delight but was followed by a bug on her way to the ship.

It stabbed her multiple times. Johnny and Ace killed the bug, pulled Dizzy aboard, and tried to save her, but she died on the way out of the atmosphere.

Answer: The Roger Young

The Roger Young was a massive warship used to ferry troopers and drop ships and other necessities for deep space travel. Zander pulled a few strings to ensure that Carmen would end up on the same ship as him. The Roger Young was just leaving the danger zone of the bug batteries when it was torn in two. Most of the crew died, but Carmen and Zander made it to a life boat.

Answer: Extremely Hostile

Carmen crashed her life boat through a mountain side and ended up in the twisting caverns of the bug tunnels. She and Zander jumped out. Zander got the weapons ready while Carmen worked the com. She saw the bugs approaching around her, explained her situation, dropped the com, and grabbed the rifle Zander had waiting. She killed a few bugs before being stabbed from behind.

Answer: Johnny, Ace, Watkins

Johnny was just promoted to Lieutenant and heard the gun shots and screams of Carmen through the com. He decided not to make a search party because he knew she was already dead. Later, he was moving through the lairs with his squad when he decided to make a rescue party to go after Carmen.

Others argued that she was already dead, and explained the penalties of disobeying orders, but Johnny was determined, saying he didn't know how, but that he knew she was alive. Johnny decided not to jeopardize the mission by sending the squad ahead on its actual mission while he and two volunteers went to search Carmen out. Watkins and Ace both pulled away and followed Johnny.

Answer: The Brain Bug sucks out his brain.

Carmen and Zander were not killed right away after they bugs neutralized them at their crash site. They were taken to the Brain Bug, who wanted to learn more about humans and how they worked. Zander passed off his knife to Carmen and soon after had his brains sucked out.

The Brain Bug then prepared to take Carmen's brain, but she whipped out the knife and sliced off its sucking organ. At this time, Johnny walked in, flanked by his two volunteers, holding a nuke. The bugs seemed to know what it was, and backed away. Johnny told Carmen to come over to him and then slowly started to back out. That's when the bugs tried to rush them and the shooting started. Watkins was injured and fell down.

He demanded that Johnny give the nuke to him, and continued to shoot bugs from his injured state while Johnny, Ace, and Carmen ran away. Eventually, Watkins died and his finger fell off the nuke, letting it detonate. Carmen, Johnny and Ace barely made it out alive.

Answer: Private Zim

Earlier in the movie, back when Johnny was still in the Academy, we overheard Zim arguing with the Major, saying he wanted to see action. The Major argued back to Zim "The only way you'll see combat is if you bust yourself down to private!"

Zim was Johnny's Senior Drill Instructor at the Academy, but explained that he was a private when Johnny congratulated him on capturing the Brain Bug.

Answer: Dizzy

In the Federal Network announcement, they were showing examples of fine young men and women working in the military. For the pilots, they advertised a young recruit and then Carmen. For the Mobil Infantry, they showed Ace and Johnny getting ready to drop down to a planet.
