The link is 'Nemo', captain of the Nautilus in the book and also the name of the missing son. In the 2003 film, Nemo is captured by a diver and ends up in a dentist's fish tank. The film portrays the adventures of his father, Marlin, during his journey to rescue his son.

The film was inspired by the 1963 French book "La Plančte des singes" by Pierre Boulle and was first in a series of five films. The film lost money in its first release in 1942 and received mixed reviews. This story on which the film is based is no ancient fairy tale. The 2001 animated film uses William Steig's picture book "Shrek!" from 1990 as a jumping off point and weaves in elements from other mostly-Disney versions of fairy tales. It was praised for being able to provide both adult interest and children's entertainment.

The turtles are each named after a Renaissance artist - Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael. The expression "Cowabunga!" is often associated with the Turtles, however it has a history that in modern times can be traced back via Snoopy of "Peanuts" fame to Chief Thunderthud of American TV show "The Howdy Doody Show" (1947-1956).

The 2007 film is a parody of surfing documentaries such as the two documentary films listed ("The Endless Summer" (1966) and "Riding Giants" (2004)) as well as the fictional "North Shore" (1987). It did well in the box office despite following a rash of other penguin movies including "March of the Penguins" (2005), "Madagascar" (2005) and Happy Feet (2006).

The 1999 film is loosely based on the 1945 book of the same name by EB White. In fact the 2002 sequel "Stuart Little 2" follows the book more closely. The 2006 film "Stuart Little 3: Call of the Wild" completes the trilogy and is just animated unlike the two earlier films which combine live-action with animation.
