Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which 1999 Sci-fi blockbuster gives us the line: "Dodge this"?

Answer: The Matrix

"The Matrix" is a computer program that we all think is reality. The actual reality is that we are all being used as batteries to supply power to the machines which have taken over the Earth.
Neo (Keanu Reeves) is a computer hacker who is recruited by a small band of people trying to free humans the world over. Neo is touted as "The One", a leader who will finally break through the Matrix, if only he can believe in himself.
After Neo and Trinity (Carrie-Ann Moss) save Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) from the clutches of the agents, Neo dodges a hail of bullets fired by Agent Brown (Paul Goddard). However, he is grazed by one bullet and falls to the ground. As the agent stands over him preparing to administer the coup-de-grace, Trinity presses her gun against the agent's head, says "Dodge this" and fires. Unfortunately, it isn't that easy to kill an agent. This time he has taken over the body of a policeman who subsequently dies. The agent reappears later.
2. "Sanka! You dead?" Which John Candy comedy features this quote?

Answer: Cool Runnings

"Cool Runnings" is based on the true story of Jamaica's first ever bobsled team and their bid to compete in the winter Olympics.
Derice Bannock is an Olympic hopeful, training for the 100 meters sprint. Sanka Coffie is his best friend, who is the reigning pushcart derby champion. When Sanka crashes his cart into a stall, after winning his seventh derby, Derice rushes up and asks: "Sanka! You dead?" Sanka replies "No man".
We hear this exchange several more times in the movie, after they crash the practice sled into a Jamaican police car and again after they crash in practice at the tryouts.
The team make it into the Olympics but are ostracized by officials and other sledders alike, who don't think they are serious about the sport. Despite a very poor start, the intrepid Jamaicans win the public over, but crash during the final Olympic race.
In the most poignant scene of the movie, the four teammates carry their sled over the finish line and in the process finally win approval by their peers.
3. "What's it doing in the middle of a sheep paddock?" Which Rob Sitch directed movie is this from?

Answer: The Dish

"The Dish" is an Australian movie about the large radio telescope situated outside of Parkes in NSW (Australia) and it's responsibility in relaying the television pictures of man's first historic moon walk in 1969.
In the movie, when the Prime Minister (Bille Brown) is being briefed about the role of the radio telescope, he suddenly realizes the gravity of the situation.
It is extraordinarily funny, when you relate the historical enormity of the task at hand to a satellite dish in a sheep paddock in outback Australia.
4. Which 1997 movie, also directed by Rob Sitch tells us to "Tell him he's dreaming"?

Answer: The Castle

"The Castle" is another Australian film, this time about the Kerrigan family who love their house and it's proximity to the runway of a large airport. When the council wants to resume the entire street, a legal battle of David and Goliath proportions arises.
One of the Kerrigan sons, Steve (Anthony Simcoe) loves buying and trading weird and wonderful items through "The Trading Post". Whenever he tells his father Darryl (Michael Caton) about something he wants to buy, Darryl's response to the cost is "Tell him he's dreaming."
While the family is concerned that not only they, but all of their neighbours as well, may lose their houses, Steve is more concerned about buying a pair of jousting sticks.
5. "Take a chance. Hire the smart, fat girl." Which 2006 chick flick is this quote from?

Answer: The Devil Wears Prada

Meryl Streep is wonderful as Miranda Priestly, the hard-nosed, difficult-to-please and excessively demanding fashion editor of fashion's "Runway" magazine. Andrea Sachs (Anne Hathaway) wants to be a journalist, knows nothing about fashion and has never heard of Miranda Priestly. Surprisingly, she is offered the job as second assistant but sees "the job a million girls would die for" as a stepping-stone to the journalism career she really wants.
Unfortunately, she is scorned by all at the magazine for her naivety and lack of fashion sense and treated as a whipping boy by the merciless Miranda. After Andy fails to do the impossible, Miranda delivers one of the best put-downs I've ever heard.
This is the catalyst for Andy to change. She gets a makeover from Nigel (Stanley Tucci) the magazine's art director and throws herself into her work She becomes indispensable to Miranda and is rewarded with the prestigious Paris trip. She has saved her job, but at great cost to her private life. She breaks up with her boyfriend and alienates her friends. Can she now save her personal life as well?
6. "Hey! I'm gliding here!" Which unpolished, unkempt and undercover 2001 movie is the source of this quote?

Answer: Miss Congeniality

Sandra Bullock is FBI agent Grace Hart who is selected to go undercover as a contestant in the Miss United States beauty pageant. In order to catch a serial bomber known as The Citizen, she must make the final five in the contest to gain access to the restricted backstage areas.
Grace, however, does not live up to her name and lacks the polish needed to pull off such a stunt. Enter Victor Melling (Michael Caine), a pageant consultant who is called on to train her in all areas of deportment and grooming before the contest.
This quote is from the scene where Victor is trying (and failing spectacularly) to teach her to walk gracefully, when she is almost run over by a taxi.
7. A knight in shining overalls tells us "There is a smell in here that is gonna outlast religion" in which 2006 movie?

Answer: Kenny

"Kenny" is an affable porta-loo specialist who cheerfully gets down to the business end of servicing festivals, events and even the Melbourne Cup!
In this scene, Kenny (Shane Jacobson) is inside the hopefully empty disposal tank when his work-mate Sammy (Ian Dryden) is whining continually about fellow worker, Pat (Chris Davis). Kenny very politely points out to Sammy that it is extremely hard to concentrate on his complaints given the aroma in the tank.
Ask any young Aussie which movie this quote is from and they'll immediately tell you "Kenny".
The movie was written by Shane and his brother Clayton, directed by Clayton and also featured roles by Shane's father and son. It won 6 Australian Movie Awards including best actor.
8. Alan Rickman's immortal quote "By Grabthar's hammer, by the sons of Warvan, you shall be avenged" is from which 1999 comedy of galactic proportions?

Answer: Galaxy Quest

"Galaxy Quest" is a movie about a long defunct, fictional television series of the same name. The stars of the show are unable to move on with their lives, and tour the country, appearing at store openings and Galaxy Quest conventions. Dr Lazarus, played by Alexander Dane (Alan Rickman) is tired of repeating his immortal line every time and threatens to quit the group.
The unthinkable happens when a group of Thermians come to Earth to request the help of the intrepid Galaxy Quest crew. Trouble is, the crew think the Thermians are fans and the Thermians believe "Galaxy Quest" is a series of factual historical documents.
When the team is caught up in this real life space mission, to save the Thermians from the evil Sarris, Alexander Dane becomes close to Quellek, a young Thermian who holds him in high esteem. After Quellek is shot by one of Sarris' henchmen and lays dying, Alexander not only quotes this line to him, he actually carries out the promise.
9. Which Robin Williams comedy gives us the memorable quote: "It's a stampede!"?

Answer: Jumanji

This movie stars Robin Williams as Alan Parrish, who becomes stuck in the game of Jumanji for 25 years. Eventually he is released from the jungle when a young brother and sister begin playing as well. But in order to get his life back, and restore the town to normal, Alan realizes they must play the game through to the end. In the meantime, many amazing but dangerous creatures from the jungle come out of the game, causing havoc and mayhem in the town of Brantford.

Not least of all is the stampede of African animals, which almost destroys the house and the once peaceful town. I love the little rhino tagging along at the end.
10. Which 1999 movie starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman features the quote: "Come on ladies, let's clean house."

Answer: Practical Magic

Sandra Bullock (Sally) and Nicole Kidman (Ginny) are sisters in a family of witches that is cursed in love and ostracized by the local townspeople. After Sally's husband dies, it seems as if the curse is responsible and she returns to live with her Aunts. Ginny meanwhile has fallen in love with Jimmy Angelov (Goran Visnjic) who becomes very possessive and does not want her out of his sight. After he attacks Ginny, Sally comes to take her home, but ends up accidentally killing Jimmy.
After being brought back to life and then killed for a second time, Jimmy possesses Ginny's body. Sally calls on the other ladies in the neighbourhood to form a coven in order to exorcise Jimmy and it is after his soul falls as dust to the floor, Linda (Margo Martindale) says this line. The coven sweeps the ashes of his soul outside and reunites them with his body.
During the exorcism the curse on the family is broken allowing Sally and Detective Gary Hallett (Aiden Quinn) to fall in love. The family is also finally understood and accepted by the ladies of the town.
