Answer: Auto accident

Actress Amanda Cartwright, known for being a scream queen in movies like "Camp Bloodbath" and "Co-Ed Massacre", was out at auditions on the day she was killed. With her daughter, Max, in the passenger seat, the two of them headed out from yet another failed attempt to get a non-horror role.

While Max worried about their mounting bills, Amanda turned up the radio to listen to "Bette Davis Eyes" and the two looked optimistically ahead. That was when they were struck by an oncoming car. Amanda was killed in the accident.

Answer: Cruel Summer

Three years after the car accident, Max wakes up to the sound of her alarm and gets ready to go to a study session with her friend, Gertie, and her potential crush, Chris, who makes it very apparent he likes her. Partway through this session though, they're interrupted by Gertie's step-brother, Duncan, who wants them all to go to a double-feature screening of "Camp Bloodbath" and "Camp Bloodbath 2: Cruel Summer", at the local cinema. If Max goes, he says, it would be the best-- after all, her mother was the lead in the first one. Max refuses outright, but Duncan offers to do all of her homework for her Classics class until the end of the year.

Max, Chris, and Gertie end up at the theatre, also running into Vicki, one of Max's old best friends, there. Vicki also happens to be Chris' ex-girlfriend, and she's a bit obsessive. Soon enough, the movie begins and the crowd goes wild. Max watches her mother on-screen giving a brief history of the film's killer, Billy, and the tragic accident during the summer of 1957.

The counsellors evidently hated Billy and the other campers treated him horribly. Before long, Max's mother has some of her big scenes in the movie, and she decides to go to the lobby to get fresh air.

Answer: They pass through a movie screen.

As soon as Max gets out of her theatre seat to head to the lobby, something horrible happens. One theatregoer drops his bottle of vodka on the floor by accident and it rolls under the seats, spilling its contents. Elsewhere in the theatre, a customer drops his cigarette ash into the liquid, sparking a horrible fire that quickly takes over the room. Max and her friends think quickly and Max, picking up a machete prop on the floor, cuts a hole into the movie screen to grant them an escape route. And that's when they pass through and wake up in a bright forest.

Answer: Camp Blue Finch

When the group wakes up in the woods, they're surprised when a yellow Volkswagen van drives down the narrow, forest lane and two of the counsellors from Camp Blue Finch greet them, looking for directions. More concerning is the fact that every ninety-two minutes, the same van drives by asking for directions.

The group inevitably hops into the van after Duncan claims that they're all counsellors and they head to Camp Blue Finch in what must be their collective nightmare. None of them are prepared, however, when Nancy, played by Max's mother, Amanda, wakes up in the back of the van and welcomes them along for the ride.

Soon after arriving at Camp Blue Finch, the group tries to get away by asking for the keys to the local bad boy's van, but he throws them off into the woods and they need to go hunt for them. This gives them all the opportunity to witness "Camp Bloodbath's" first kills, and when they do, they end up hanging around long enough to realize that not only are the kills real, but that Billy is able to see them and interact with them. Duncan ends up finding this out first-hand when he gets a machete thrown into his side.

The group tries to run, but they always end up back at Camp Blue Finch, unable to leave the movie. Soon enough, the alleged final girl, Paula, arrives and the gang decides to stay put and let her kill Billy to end the film. They just have to wait out the rest of the film.

After Max and Chris stop Nancy and Kurt from going to bed together, things go a bit off the rails. Max and Gertie mention Billy and it prompts Max to narrate a flashback sequence that the group is privy to joining in on. Unfortunately, when they emerge from the sequence, Gertie is covered in blood and it scares Kurt and Paula enough to hop into a car and speed off.

This proves to be a bad idea. As they drive away, Duncan, still alive, emerges from the woods. They hit him, inadvertently crashing into a sign on the way out. Kurt is thrown from the vehicle, dying on impact, and Paula explodes with the car.

With Paula's death, the group realizes they need a new final girl, otherwise they can never fight Billy, and when it comes down to it, they need to pick a virgin as per the rules of the film. This leaves only Nancy and Max to fill the role. The remaining friends and counsellors think of an ambush and to do that they need to lure Billy out of the woods.

They proceed with the slumber party, as planned, using Tina as bait. It doesn't go as planned, and before they can get out, more than half of the group is killed.

It takes an additional slow-motion sequence and a trip back into another flashback before they can get their hands on billy's weapon, but by that point, only Max, Chris, and Nancy are left.

Answer: Machete

In the flashback sequence, Max, Chris, and Nancy find Billy's cabin in the woods and need to return to the main storyline to escape him once again, but it doesn't help too much. Chris gets stabbed during an escape attempt and Nancy gets carried off by Billy's cabin, so Max, with his machete in her hand, goes off to save her mother.

A fight ensues and Nancy, in an attempt to save Max, performs a striptease to lure Billy away. She's killed for this, but it allows Max to be reborn as the final girl once and for all.

The sacrifice doesn't go unwasted since the film requires a final girl; Max is able to cut off Billy's head and end the movie, and she and Chris survive through the credits as they play on in the sky beside them. The end.

Answer: A hospital

Max wakes up in a hospital bed after the movie fades to black and finds herself alive and well. Chris is in a bed beside her, and sitting nearby are Gertie, Vicki, and Duncan, all of whom seem to have made it out okay, much to her surprise. They all think that they're home, but it doesn't really explain the wounds they still received when they were in "Camp Bloodbath".

When Billy's music starts to play, all of them hear the sounds and look to the doorway. Billy jumps through it. It turns out, they're in the sequel.
