Answer: to find a cloak

At the beginning of the movie, we see Lyra running in a field, playing with a group of children. She and her friend Roger run in through an entranceway that leads to Jordan College where she lives, but she stops the other children from following her by telling them that the entranceway has been cursed. When the children question her on this, she claims she will provide proof by bringing out a poisoned cloak that will kill anyone who puts it on. She later tells Roger that she only needs to find a regular cloak, because no one will have the nerve to try putting it on. She goes into the room looking for a cloak, but becomes distracted by the other things she sees there.
Lyra has a wonderful imagination, and an ability to think on her feet that will hold her in good stead.
Lyra is wonderfully played by Dakota Blue Richards.

Answer: She thinks he is her uncle.

He calls him her uncle and he is referred to as her uncle by the masters of the college. When we first meet him he has returned from an expedition where he has found evidence of "dust" entering a person through his daemon. Asriel obtains funding from the college to go north again, to further his studies.
Lord Asriel is played by Daniel Craig.

Answer: He poisons a decanter full of wine.

Magesterium member Fra Pavel is seen pouring powder into a decanted bottle of wine. He later tells Loed Asriel that the wine has been decanted especially for him, as it's a kind that he particularly enjoys. Lyra stops her uncle from drinking the wine, telling him what she saw. The Magesterium wants to stop Lord Asriel from studying dust, and killing him would certainly achieve that end!
Fra Pavel is played by Simon McBurney.

Answer: Mrs. Coulter

Mrs. Coulter offers to take Lyra north with her, and takes her back to her house first, to make preparations. They spend so much time there that Lyra begins to become suspicious. The first time Mrs. Coulter tries to get her hands on the alethiometer, or Golden Compass, she sends her daemon in to search Lyra's room when Lyra is occupied elsewhere.

The second time she tries is when they are at Bolvanger, and she simply asks Lyra for it. Lyra gives her the tub in which the metal insect has been sealed instead, and escapes when Mrs. Coulter, played by Nicole Kidman, in stung by the escaping bug.

Answer: the Gyptians

While doing some snooping at Mrs. Coulter's house, Pan falls into a wastebasket, and emerges with some papers that he shows Lyra. From these papers they figure out that Mrs. Coulter is in charge of the Gobblers and tells them which children to steal. Lyra is appalled to find that two of her friends' names are on the list.

After recovering the Golden Compass from Mrs. Coulter's daemon, she escapes, but is pursued by the Gobblers. Just when they have her cornered, she is rescued by the Gyptians, whom she immediately trusts because her friend, Billy Costa's, mother is with them. Ma Costa tells Lyra that they have been keeping an eye on her ever since she left the college, because they did not trust Mrs. Coulter. Ma Costa is played by Claire Higgins.

Answer: the person on the ship who was once her lover

Lyra consults the compass and is surprised to see that the witch's former lover is a much younger Farder Coram. Given how much Farder has aged, compared to how young the witch still looks, Lyra is quite surprised. This is when Serafina, who is actually the queen of the witches, tells Lyra that witches can live for hundreds of years, unlike people. She also tells Lyra that she is happy that she lived long enough to meet her.
Serafina Pekkala is played by Eva Green, and Farder Coram is played by Tom Courtenay.

Answer: She tells him where his armour is hidden.

When Lyra meets with aeronaut Lee Scoresby, he suggests that she try and obtain the services of the polar bear, lorek Byrnison. When Lyra seeks him out, she finds that he is working for whiskey and will not leave because the people he works for have hidden his armour, which houses his soul. Lyra consults the Golden Compass and offers to tell lorek where his armour is hidden. He promises to stay with her until her quest is resolved, retrieves his armour and makes good on his promise.
Lorek Byrnison is voiced by Ian McKellan and Lee Scoresby is played by Sam Elliott.

Answer: Billy Costa

Billy is there, shivering in a corner. He has been separated from his daemon and is definitely not whole. Lyra and lorek take him back to the Gyptians, where his mother is thrilled to see him. She promises him that they will find his daemon and make everything well again.
Billie Costa is played by Charlie Rowe.

Answer: Mrs. Coulter

Mrs. Coulter re-enters the room just before the operation is completed and is most distraught to see the procedure being performed on Lyra. She tells Lyra that the experiments are to prevent dust from entering children through their daemons, to keep them pure.

She also tells Lyra that her parents are not really dead, that she is Lyra's mother and Lord Asriel is really her father, not her uncle. Lyra escapes from Mrs. Coulter and smashes the machine so that no other children can be separated from their daemons.

Answer: further north, to rescue her father

While at Bolvanger, Lyra learns that assassins had been sent to kill Lord Asriel, who was continuing his studies even though being held captive by the Samoyeds. Lyra, lorek, Roger, Lee Scoresby and Serafina set off in the balloon to rescue him. The children rescued from Bolvanger are presumably taken back by the Gyptians.
