Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What young actress, later to gain TV fame, played Dainty June?

Answer: Ann Jillian

Her name, at the time, was spelled Jilliann.
2. What song was cut from the final print, even though it had been filmed?

Answer: 'Together Wherever We Go'

The cut song is featured on the DVD release, and was cut for VERY good reasons. Although Russell's voice was augmented by Lisa Kirk in much of the film, in this number Wood, Malden and Russell sang the entire song. None are known for their strong singing, and the finished product is dreadful.
3. What does Tessie Tura, the stripper, refuse to do?

Answer: Play scenes

Stripper Tessie is too good to feed lines to bum comics! Louise jumps in and agrees to do it, her first step to stripper-dom.
4. What item does Louise NOT receive for her birthday?

Answer: Cow

The boys in the act surprise Louise with homemade and 'clipped' gifts.
5. Morgan Brittany, later a star on 'Dallas', played Baby June. What was her real name?

Answer: Suzanne Cupito

The actress had a successful childhood career, also appearing in 'Yours, Mine and Ours' with Lucille Ball. As an adult, her resemblance to Vivien Leigh led to more than one appearance as the actress.
6. What actor played Tulsa, both in the original NY production and on film?

Answer: Paul Wallace

Although the producers chose not to bring Ethel Merman to the silver screen, they brought along the much-too-old Wallace to play a teen boy.
7. In what city (town) did Louise make her debut as a stripper?

Answer: Wichita

Louise was appearing with her act 'Rose Louise and her Hollywood Blondes' when the star stripper was arrested for shoplifting. Originally, the stripper was arrested for 'soliciting', but film censors thought this too risque for early '60's movie-goers.
8. What has Rose done so many times that the girls are prompted to sing about it?

Answer: Gotten married

Unlike 'West Side Story', Natalie Wood did her own singing in this film. Other than one note, at the end of 'Little Lamb', that's all Natalie on the soundtrack. Only on 'Together' did La Wood deliver clinker after clinker.
9. Louise tells Rose '...get one of your own, because you can't have mine.' To what is she referring?

Answer: An ulcer

This climactic scene is a tour-de-force for Natalie Wood. Her transition from the child-like Louise to the adult Gypsy is capped by this rant at her domineering mother.
10. What native costumes are Baby June and Louise wearing when they audition for Uncle Jocko?

Answer: Dutch

Uncle Jocko was played by Karl Malden, who also played Herbie. This double casting is not in the original B'way script, but Herbie does not appear until much later in the play. In order to bring Malden in sooner, producers came up with this interesting but uncharacteristic casting twist.
