Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the beginning of the film, we heard singing from the camp counselors. The scene progressed to a cabin with a name on the door. What animal was the cabin named after?

Answer: Fox

On the front of the door of the cabin was a plaque identifying it as fox. The plaque had two brown arrows outlined in yellow. The two arrows crossed each other to form the letter X. The background of the board was a faded red. Underneath the arrows was the word "fox" written in yellow. We saw the door of the cabin open, but we did not see who opened it. The person entered the room and looked around at the sleeping children. The intruder continued to look around the room and saw board games and a couple of badminton racquets.
2. What instrument was Claudette playing in the main cabin during the sing-along?

Answer: Guitar

Claudette was singing the song "Hallelujah" while she played the guitar and sang with the other counselors. Claudette and her boyfriend, Barry, were both singing with the other counselors. They however were only looking at one another during the entire song. Claudette finished the song and handed the guitar off to the person next to her. She never took her eyes off Barry when she passed the guitar over. Barry and Claudette both went off together to make out in the camp's barn.
3. While Barry and Claudette made out in the loft of the barn someone followed them into the barn. What product did Claudette throw at her attacker?

Answer: Claudette threw a box of Brillo pads at her attacker.

The attacker came up the stairs of the barn to the loft. The attacker saw Barry and Claudette making out. Claudette gave Barry a nasty look because the two of them got caught. Barry jumped up and fastened his belt; he tried to explain that they were only making out.

The attacker stabbed Barry in the stomach and he fell onto some rolls of gardening fences. Claudette frantically tried to escape her attacker. She moved from place to place in a vain attempt to escape. She picked up several boxes including the box of Brillo pads and threw it at her attacker. We did not see how Claudette died, but instead saw a close up frozen frame of her screaming.
4. After the death of Barry and Claudette, the film moved to present day. What month did the rest of the film take place in?

Answer: June

After the opening credits of the film finished, we saw Friday June 13th the present on the screen. The scene was a town and we saw Annie walking. She walked up to a gas station in the town where she saw a dog. Annie asked the dog how far it was to Camp Crystal Lake.

The dog gave a little moan in response to Annie's question. In my opinion, Annie should have listened to the dog. He was obviously telling her to stay away from the camp. In the background, we heard the local disc jockey announced the date of Friday, June 13th.

He announced the time and told everyone to get out of bed on black cat day.
5. "It's got a death curse", was said by Crazy Ralph twice during the film. Who were the first people Ralph uttered this warning to?

Answer: Enos and Annie

Enos was giving Annie a ride to the half-way point to Camp Crystal Lake. The two had just left the diner when Ralph confronted them. He was asking Annie if she was going to Camp Blood. He warned Annie she would never return. Enos told Ralph to shut up and walked away from Ralph. Later on the counselors at Camp Crystal Lake found out Ralph was on his way to the camp.

The counselors found this information out through a local police officer. Brenda asked the officer if they had anything to worry about if they saw Ralph. Alice was in the kitchen putting dishes away, she opened the pantry door. Ralph came out of the pantry, which caused Alice to scream. Ned and Marcie ran into the kitchen to see what was wrong with Alice. Ralph warned the teenagers they were doomed and then rode off on his bike.
6. Where did Enos drop off Annie?

Answer: Enos dropped Annie off at a cemetery

Enos was telling Annie the stories about Camp Crystal Lake. He told her she needed to quit before she started. Annie told Enos she couldn't quit because Steve was depending on her. Enos then started to list all the things that had gone wrong in the past when they tried to re-open the camp.

He told Annie of the young boy who had drowned in 1957. He told her when they tried to re-open in 1962 the water was bad. Enos was unable to convince Annie to quit with his tales. He dropped her off at Monravian Cemetery.

The cemetery was located in Hope, New Jersey. The cemetery had a large wrought-iron gate at the entrance with the name of the cemetery and the town written on it. Annie thanked Enos after she got out of his truck. Enos was the last person to see Annie alive besides her killer.
7. What was Alice struggling to fix when Steve walked up on her?

Answer: Alice was trying to fix a gutter on one of the camp's cabins.

Alice was trying to hold the gutter up so she could nail it in. Steve came around the corner of the cabin carrying a box of supplies. Steve sat the box down and quickly went to help Alice. She climbed the wooden ladder that was beside her with the hammer in hand. Alice nailed the gutter into place while Steve held it. Alice finished nailing the gutter in place while Steve looked at her sketch book. Steve saw a drawing Alice had done of him the night before. Steve asked Alice if she liked being at the camp.

She told him that she may have to leave early and go home. Alice told Steve it was not personal she just had to take care of something back home. Steve asked Alice to give it one more week and if she did not like it he would take her to the bus himself.
8. Claudette was not the only one in the film to play the guitar. Who was the other counselor who played the instrument?

Answer: Bill

Bill was playing a slow tune in the main cabin. Alice and Brenda were both listening to the song he played. They both complimented Bill on the wonderful job he did with the guitar. Bill was one of the three people in what I thought to be a love triangle.

It seemed to me he liked Alice, who seemed to share his affections. The two were sunbathing together on the lake after they finished putting the piers together. Bill was the person Alice called out for when there was a snake in her cabin. The third person in the love triangle was the camp owner, Steve.

He seemed to have feelings towards Alice as well. In one scene, he gently touched Alice's hair. He asked Alice if she wanted to leave the camp because of something he had done. As Steve walked away, Alice watched him with an almost yearning look on her face. Unfortunately for both Bill and Steve, they were both killed before anything could come of their relationships with Alice.
9. What type of vehicle did Steve drive in the film?

Answer: Steve drove a blue Jeep in the film.

Steve was driving off in a blue Jeep with a trailer attached to it. He was headed into town to pick up supplies for the camp. Before Steve left for town, he told the counselors to get as much done as possible. He told them to try to finish their tasks before the rain started. Later on that night, we saw Steve waving down an approaching police car. Steve's Jeep had broken down while carrying the supplies back to the camp. The police officer gave Steve a ride back to the entrance of the camp.

Both Steve and the killer drove the same vehicle. I believe it was done that way for several reasons. I think Sean Cunningham, the director, used it as a way to make us consider that Steve could be the killer. It was also used to lure Alice out of her hiding place: she saw the Jeep pull up and thought it was Steve. It of course turned out to be the killer who was driving the Jeep. Thirdly, I believe because the film was on such a tight budget, Sean used the same vehicle for financial reasons.
10. What did Ned wear as a bathing suit?

Answer: Cutoff jeans

The counselors were all working together to get the docks secured to one another. There were two counselors on each side pulling the floating pier. Jack and Marcie were on one side while Brenda and Alice were on the other side. Ned was on the piece of pier being moved, he was in his cutoff jeans with no shirt on. Ned was yelling and hollering joyfully; he was having a good time. Ned even did a forward somersault on the pier as the others moved it. The counselors got the piers secured together and then they all took a break. Alice and Bill were sunbathing together. Marcie and Brenda were talking.

Ned was the practical joker of the bunch. He liked Brenda and showed her by constantly pulling pranks on her. In one of the earlier scenes in the film, Brenda was setting up the archery range. Ned shot an arrow at the target Brenda had just set up on the pedestal. Brenda was shocked that Ned would pull such a prank. Brenda chased Ned back to the camp telling him if he tried anything like that again she would get him.
11. What vitamin were Brenda and Marcie talking about while at the lake?

Answer: Vitamin C

Marcie was sitting on the dock while Brenda swam in the lake. Marcie and Brenda were discussing what vitamin C was supposed to do for you. Brenda said she thought it was supposed to reduce the amount of nitrates in your body. Brenda looked into the woods and then swam to the dock Marcie was on. Marcie asked Brenda if she had seen something in the woods. Brenda seemed reluctant when she told Marcie no.

As Brenda held onto the dock looking into the woods, Ned swam up under her. Ned scared Brenda once again with his jokes.
12. Besides Brenda, who dived in the water to save Ned?

Answer: Jack

Ned was in the center of the lake yelling for help. Marcie told Jack that Ned was in trouble. Jack and Brenda ran to the end of the dock and dove into the water. Brenda was the first in, followed by Jack. The rest of the counselors either got into a canoe to find a sinking Ned or got a life preserver. Marcie was telling Jack and Brenda that Ned was in a specific area of water. Brenda was the one who found the drowning Ned and brought him to the surface.

They got Ned on to the dock where Brenda gave him mouth-to-mouth. Ned then grabbed Brenda and kissed her.

He was playing another practical joke on Brenda. The other counselors started yelling at Ned and he apologized profusely.
13. How did Ned die in the film?

Answer: Ned died when he had his throat cut.

Jack and Marcie had wandered off to be alone. Marcie was talking to Jack about Ned's behavior and his constant pranks. Jack told Marcie that Ned was going to do what Ned wanted to do. The pair did not see Ned off in the distance; he was watching the two of them. Jack and Marcie headed for one of the cabins to escape the impending storm. Ned walked off and saw someone enter one of the cabins.

He asked the person if he could help them. Ned did not get an answer, so he followed the person in the cabin. That was the last time we saw Ned alive. Jack and Marcie ended up in the cabin that Ned had gone into. Jack and Marcie were making out in the bottom bunk of a bunk bed. Unbeknownst to Jack and Marcie, Ned lay dead on the top bunk.

The killer had cut his throat and left his dead body there.
14. What item of clothing did Bill lose first in the strip Monopoly game?

Answer: Boot

Brenda suggested that Alice and Bill play her in a game of strip Monopoly. The rules stated by Brenda were simple: when you land on someone else's property you pay with an article of clothing. Bill landed on one of Alice's properties and Alice made him give her a boot. Bill had just commented a few moments prior to that about the property she bought.

He told her nobody ever lands on that property. She told him she was buying it because she liked the color. The game continued on with both Brenda and Bill losing several articles of clothing. Alice was still fully clothed.

The door to the main cabin was blown open by the storm. Brenda realized she left the windows open in her cabin and told them she would continue the game later.
15. Who wrote the screenplay for the film?

Answer: Victor Miller

Victor did a wonderful job creating the story for what would be one of my all-time favorite films. He had said in many interviews had Sean came to him to create a horror film. Sean told Victor he basically wanted to rip-off the film "Halloween" by John Carpenter. "Halloween" was a sleeper hit that was the most successful independent film for a number of years. Victor has said he basically created an idea where teenagers were out of range of any adult supervision.

He then had the teenagers killed off one by one by the killer.

It was a very simple idea that translated great to the screen. The film has held up well in my opinion over the years; it has not lost any of its fright factors for me.
