Answer: Hercules

The Beast, as the boys refer to him, is actually a huge dog that lives in the yard of a home that borders the sandlot field where they play baseball. The Beast is infamous for his ferocity.

The interesting thing is that Benny refers to Babe Ruth as the "Hercules of Baseball" because he was so great at the sport. The irony is that the dog is also named Hercules.

You first learn the name of the dog when the boys return him home to his owner after they save him from under the fence near the end of the movie. His owner mentions his name twice in that scene. Then, the dog becomes sort of a mascot for the team and at the end of the movie, you see him sitting on the sidelines while the boys play and he is wearing a T-shirt with "Hercules" painted on it.

This is spoken during the S'more instructions given to Smalls by Ham, when they are having a sleepover in the tree house to tell Smalls the legend of the Beast. Ham takes S'more creation very seriously and he cannot believe that Smalls has not experienced this treat before. Ham tells Smalls to "pay attention" to the instructions closely.

When he finishes making the S'more, he takes a bite and then hands it off to Smalls.

Answer: Hamilton Porter

Hamilton "Ham" Porter exclusively plays catcher for the team. He has reddish hair and is slightly more portly than the rest of the boys. He also has a unique and sarcastic sense of humor and serves as the comic relief for much of the movie.

You hear his full name when Smalls first meets the whole group. You hear his last name again when the player from the other team is talking to him, "We play on a real diamond, Porter! You ain't good enough to lick the dirt off our cleats!"

When Smalls is first invited to play with the boys by Benny, he is very nervous and does nto know much about baseball anyway. Since he is the ninth player and one player must be the batter, that leaves just eight position players. Therefore, they must play with just two outifelders instead of three meaning that one player needs to play left-center and the other plays right-center. Benny asks Smalls to play left-center but Smalls ends up going to left. Benny then says, "That's left, I said left center." Smalls moves over and finds the correct spot.

Answer: Wendy Peffercorn

You first hear her name when she is walking down the street toward Squints and Yea-Yea. The movie goes into slow motion and Squints says her name slowly while he stares at her. Then, at the pool, since Wendy is a lifeguard there, Squints pretends to drown so Wendy will need to perform mouth-to-mouth on him.

While she does, he kisses her. The result is them being banned from the pool forever. At the end of the movie, we learn that when Squints grew up, he married Wendy and they had 9 kids together.

This is one of the more famous lines in the movie. During the campout the boys have, Squints tells the legend of the Beast to the group and we watch the story in flashbacks. Then, during the story, the police officer in the flashback tells the owner of the Beast how long he must keep the Beast locked up.

He repeats the answer several times, syllable by syllable; "For-e-ver... For-e-ver..."

Answer: Chewing tobacco

One of the boys steals the chewing tobacco from his dad. The boys all take some and then go onto a carnival ride that spins around in circles. They get sick on the ride and... well... you know what happens. Once they get off the ride completely sick, you hear the narrator say that the boys "swore off the hard stuff forever."

Answer: Henry Aaron

Henry "Hank" Aaron is a baseball legend who hit 755 career home runs. This was the MLB record until Barry Bonds broke it in 2007. Once the boys figure they are unable to get the ball back, they head home for the night. That night, Benny has a dream that Babe Ruth comes out of his closet and has a conversation with him about his predicament. Babe Ruth eventually convinces Benny to hop the fence and get the ball, then he starts to leave. On his way out, he notices a Henry Aaron baseball card on Benny's dresser and asks if he can have it.

The funny thing about this request is that Babe Ruth would not have even known who Henry Aaron was due to the fact that Babe Ruth was dead by the time Henry Aaron became a superstar.

Answer: Steals home

They show Benny on third base and announce him as a pinch runner. On the pitch, he breaks for home and grown-up Smalls announces the play as he beats the tag and steals home.

Smalls' narration says that after Benny "pickled the Beast" his reputation spread quickly and earned him the nickname "The Jet". Later, when he steals home in the pros, Smalls, now an announcer, makes the call, "The Jet stole home! The Jet stole home!"
