Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Anthony Perkins and Vince Vaughn

Answer: Norman Bates

In 1960, Alfred Hitchcock set a new standard for fear in "Psycho". The story begins when Marion Crane steals $40,000 (adjusted for inflation, i.e., $346,971) from her employer and takes refuge at the Bates Motel. Norman Bates, the proprietor, was played by Anthony (Tony) Perkins. For years after, people were afraid to shower.

In the 1998 Gus Van Sant remake, Vince Vaughn is now the owner of the Bates Motel.
2. Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer

Answer: Catwoman

In 1992, Michelle Pfeiffer takes Catwoman to the big screen in "Batman Returns", directed by Tim Burton. She plays Selina Kyle, love interest of Batman, and one of his adversaries. DC Comics' "Catwoman" slinks onto the screen again in 2004, with Halle Berry as Patience Philips, a shy cosmetics entrepreneur.

After being murdered and reanimated by Egyptian cats, she returns as the anti-heroic crimefighter, Catwoman. Winner of four Golden Raspberries, this film is often considered one of the worst of all time.
3. Frank Sinatra and George Clooney

Answer: Danny Ocean

"Ocean's Eleven" was originally a 1960 heist film, where Danny Ocean gets some of his old World War II buddies to help him rob five Las Vegas casinos on New Year's Eve. Frank Sinatra plays Danny Ocean, along with his "Rat Pack" buddies. Flash forward to 2001, where Danny Ocean has just been paroled from a New Jersey penitentiary.

In the Steven Soderbergh film, Danny is now played by George Clooney, and the plan is to rob one casino of $150 million.
4. Jennifer Lawrence and Rebecca Romijn

Answer: Mystique

The "X-Men" franchise started out in Marvel Comics and was first brought to the screen by Bryan Singer in 2000. The premise of the series is about genetic mutants, evolutionarily advanced beings, who fight to protect the world from evil, despite the fact that the world fears their powers. One of the "X-Men" is actually a scaly, blue, shape-shifting, voice-changing woman named Mystique (Raven). Rebecca Romijn played the mutant in the first three films (2000-2006), while Jennifer Lawrence assumed the role in "X-Men: First Class" (2011) and "X-Men: Days of Future Past" (2014).
5. Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy

Answer: Spock

Gene Roddenberry's "Star Trek" first moved to the big screen in 1979 with "Star Trek: The Motion Picture". The film took with it our favorite characters from the USS Enterprise which included the logical, pointy-eared Vulcan, Mr. Spock. Leonard Nimoy reprised his role through to "Star Trek Into Darkness" (as Spock Prime) in 2013.

In "Star Trek" from 2009, Zachary Quinto (formerly Sylar in "Heroes") first began to play the iconic role.
6. Emilia Clarke and Linda Hamilton

Answer: Sarah Connor

Sarah Connor and her son John are pivotal parts of "The Terminator" franchise. Actress Linda Hamilton has been portraying the role since its inception in 1984, through to 2019 with "Terminator: Dark Fate" where Sarah must now protect a young girl from the newest, most lethal terminator.

In "Terminator Genisys" from 2015, with a fractured timeline as part of the plot, Emilia Clarke is Sarah Connor. Emilia survives to later become Daenerys Targaryen on "Game of Thrones".
7. Samuel L. Jackson and Richard Roundtree

Answer: Shaft

"Who's the black private dick/That's a sex machine to all the chicks? (Shaft)".
It was in 1971 that we first met the cool, hard-nosed private detective "Shaft". The plot of the film is that John Shaft is hired to find the kidnapped daughter of a black crime boss, amidst black nationals and the White Mafia. Richard Roundtree starred as the "hotter than Bond, Cooler than Bullitt" detective. In 2000, we find John Shaft, (the nephew of the original Shaft) dealing with a racially motivated murder. John Shaft is now played by Samuel L. Jackson.
8. Naomi Watts and Fay Wray

Answer: Ann Darrow

In the original "King Kong" in 1933, movie director Carl Denham says "Oh, no, it wasn't the airplanes. It was Beauty killed the Beast". He is, of course, referring to the giant gorilla's love for Ann Darrow, played emotingly by Fay Wray, and making her a household name.

Some 72 years later, in 2005, we return to the mysterious Skull Island where we again meet King Kong ("the eight wonder of the world") and revisit his love for Ann Darrow, this time portrayed by Naomi Watts.
9. Steve Martin and Peter Sellers

Answer: Inspector Clouseau

It is in the Blake Edwards' 1963 film, "The Pink Panther", that we first meet the bumbling French Police Inspector Jacques Clouseau, played by the remarkably talented British actor Peter Sellers. Clouseau goes to Rome to track down the notorious jewel thief "The Phantom" who is intent on stealing 'the Pink Panther', a priceless diamond.

In 2006, the tenth installment of the series, Steve Martin plays the inept detective. This time a soccer coach is murdered and his ring, 'the Pink Panther', is stolen.
10. Jamie Lee Curtis and Scout Taylor-Compton

Answer: Laurie Strode

It was way back in 1978 that we first met seventeen-year-old Laurie Strode in John Carpenter's "Halloween". Laurie comes in contact with Michael Myers who has escaped from a mental institution after having killed his sister fifteen years earlier. Laurie is played by Jamie Lee Curtis who manages to live to appear in at least seven of the horror franchise films.

In both 2007 and 2009, the role of Laurie Strode was played by Scout Taylor-Compton, when Michael Myers again returns to terrorize the inhabitants of Haddonfield, Illinois.
11. Jackie Earle Haley and Robert Englund

Answer: Freddy Krueger

Another in the horror genre, we have Wes Craven's "A Nightmare on Elm Street", a 1984 film which introduced us to Freddy Krueger, and was also the film debut of Johnny Depp. The premise of the movie is about a disfigured, deranged slasher who preys on teenagers as they dream, which then kills them in real life. Robert Englund reprised the role in movies and on television. Sadly, in 2010, the franchise unearthed the clawed maniac with the tattered sweater, with Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger, truly a nightmare.
12. Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire

Answer: Spider-Man

Marvel Comic hero "Spider-Man" first came to the big screen in 2002 where we meet New York teenager Peter Parker, played by Tobey Maguire. As most of you already know, Peter was bitten by a genetically altered spider which gives him superpowers, e.g., super strength and the ability to cling to buildings with his web-like material. "With great power comes great responsibility", which was then assumed by Andrew Garfield when he took over the part in the 2012 movie "The Amazing Spider-Man".
13. Katherine Hepburn and Winona Ryder

Answer: Jo March

"Little Women" was based on the novel written by Louisa May Alcott, and published in two volumes in 1868 and 1869. The book follows the lives of the four March sisters, i.e., Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy, as they grow from childhood into women, with the backdrop of the American Civil War. The novel has been made into films a number of times, beginning with the 1933 version where Katharine Hepburn played the role of Josephine "Jo" March. In the 1994 version, it was Winona Ryder who was the strong, willful and stubborn Jo March.
14. Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck

Answer: Jack Ryan

Tom Clancy's character, former US Marine Jack Ryan, has appeared in many films, with several different actors playing the role. The first of these movies was "Patriot Games", in 1992, where Harrison Ford plays Jack Ryan, a CIA agent who kills a terrorist in his attempt to thwart an IRA attack in London.

In "The Sum of all Fears", from 2000, CIA analyst Jack Ryan must deal with missing scientists and the threat of nuclear war. This time Ryan is portrayed by Ben Affleck.
15. Emma Watson and Paige O'Hara

Answer: Belle

This one is a little tricky. The 1991 version of "Beauty and the Beast" was an animated film in which Paige O'Hara voiced the beautiful heroine, Belle. It is the story of how a selfish beast comes to love someone more than himself and be loved in return, and is transformed into the handsome prince he was before he was cursed.

In 2017, the updated real-life movie stars Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) as the young woman who is held captive by the hideous beast until they fall in love.
