One of the movie's best scenes was when Bela gazed at Jenny's palm and saw a pentagran which marked her as his next victim. Wealthy businessman and crack hunter Tom Newcliffe knew a werewolf was on the loose, so he invited all the suspects to a weekend houseparty on his estate, which was loaded with state-of-the-art security equipment. As soon as Newcliffe figured out who the werewolf was, he intended to bag the world's most unusual prey--if he lived, that is. Peter Cushing (1913-1994) played guest Dr. Christopher Lundgren. Karen White had been traumatized by an encounter of the close-up kind with a serial killer, so her psychiatrist, the charming Dr. Waggner, sent to her recoup at his retreat called The Colony. Poor Karen's restful stay turned into a living nightmare when she found out the village was a haven for werewolves, and the doctor was the leader of the pack in "The Howling". Dee Wallace played Karen White. R. William Neil was her husband, Christopher Stone. Patrick Macnee played head werewolf honcho Dr. George Waggner, and Dennis Dugan was Chris.

Other cast members included film veterans Kevin McCarthy, John Carradine, and Slim Pickens. "The Howling" was directed by Joe Dante and based on the novel by Gary Brandner.

What better place for wolf-beasts to set up residence than in the urban jungle of New York City, where there was a smorgasbord of homeless for them to prey on? A cane topped with a silver wolf's head was certainly a more elegant means of dispatching a werewolf (as seen in the 1941 film "The Wolf Man") but modern tastes seem to favor the convenience of a silver bullet, fired from a handgun or rifle, hence the name "Silver Bullet". Marty knew that a werewolf was on the prowl in Tanker's Mill, because he had barely escaped the beast by firing a sky rocket into its eye. Now the werewolf was out for revenge. Unless he could make his sister, Jane, and his Uncle Red believe that werewolves really did exist, Marty was doomed in "Silver Bullet". Dracula was back and ready to rule the world, so he called together all his friends, Gillman, Mummy, Frankenstein's Monster, and the Wolf Man, to help him out in "The Monster Squad". The only ones who knew what Dracula and company were up to were a group of monster movie loving kids who called themselves the Monster Squad, but was anybody going to believe them before it was too late? The cast of "The Monster Squad" included Duncan Regehr as Dracula, Tom Noonan as Frankenstein's Monster, Tom Woodruff, Jr. as the Gillman, Michael Reid MacKay as the Mummy, Jack Gwillim as Van Helsing, and Carl Thibault as the Wolf Man.

The werewolf makeup and special effects had certainly come a long way since Jack Pierce hand-glued yak fur onto Lon Chaney, Jr. in the 1941 film "The Wolf Man", but perhaps the audience felt such sympathy for Larry Talbot's wolf character, because they could see still see the man inside the beast.

Three time Best Actor Oscar winner Jack Nicholson is noted for playing unusual and eccentric characters in such films as "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975), "The Shining" (1980), "The Witches of Eastwick" (1987), and "As Good As It Gets" (1997), so his successful portrayal of Will Randall came as no surprise to his fans.

Gabriel Van Helsing, fresh from doing battle with a gigantic Mr. Hyde on top of Notre Dame, was sent to Transylvania to help out Velkan and Anna Valerious, the last of a family sworn never to enter heaven as long as Count Dracula lived. Van Helsing arrived at the village with Carl, his monk sidekick, to find that Velkan was a werewolf under Dracula's control, and Dracula had hatched a plot with Igor, the late Dr. Frannkenstein's lab assistant, to use lightning and the Frankenstein Monster, to give life to hundreds of years' worth of offspring belonging to Dracula and his brides.

The link between Dracula and wolves is by no means new. Dracula actually transformed into a wolf in "Dracula" (1931), and "Evil" turned into a wolf in "Fright Night" (1984).

In "Van Helsing", although Dracula did not transform into a werewolf, he controlled the beasts and also had the only cure stashed in his hidden castle. The cast of "Van Helsing" included Hugh Jackman as Van Helsing, Kate Beckinsale as vampire hunter Anna Valerious, Richard Roxburgh as Dracula, David Wienham as Carl, Shuler Hensey as Frankenstein's Monster, Kevin J. O'Connor as Igor, Will Kemp as Velkan, and Robbie Coltrane as Mr. Hyde.

A young woman over-turned her car, after a beast ran out of front of her, on a full moon night, while driving on a lonely stretch of Mulholland Drive. This was not long after a gypsy fortune teller saw a pentagram in her palm. Ellie and Jimmy stopped to help her and the beast returned, killed the woman, and mauled them.

They had both been changing since the incident and realized the beast which attacked them was a werewolf. To save themselves they must find who the werewolf was and kill it before the next full moon in "Cursed". Christina Ricci was Ellie, Jimmy was Jessie Eisenberg, Portia de Rossi was Zela the fortune teller, and Joshua Jackson waa Jake.
