Answer: Bruce Willis

Willis, born on March 19th, 1955 in Idar-Oberstein, Germany, was cast as John McClane. John McClane was a police officer for New York City and was first seen on an airplane which was touching down on the runway. As he got up to get his carry on bags, the passenger who sat next to him noticed his gun so he told him not to worry since he was a cop.

He informed the guy that he had been a police officer for 11 years. Although John worked in New York City as a cop, he flew to Los Angeles to reconcile with his estranged wife, Holly. John became distressed once a madman named Hans Gruber took many people captive.

In one scene in the movie, John was right by the fire alarm so he pulled it in the hope that the police would get there and rescue the hostages from Hans. John was seen throughout the movie getting into fights with Hans' men.

At the end of the movie, John defeated Hans as Hans died while falling out of a window. John was also pleased that he and Holly became closer throughout the ordeal. Willis reprised his role of John McClane in three sequels: "Die Hard 2: Die Harder", "Die Hard with a Vengeance" and "Live Free or Die Hard".

Bedelia, a native of New York City, portrayed Holly Gennaro McClane. Holly was John's wife and she was first seen at her office while she spoke with a co-worker named Harry. Harry asked her if she wanted to have dinner with him that night but Holly declined his offer, stating it was very busy as that evening was Christmas Eve. Harry said he really wanted to take her out since he wanted to have brie cheese and wine but Holly still insisted on not going.

She encouraged another co-worker to go join the party outside since it was around that time to get off of work and she did not want to be seen as some Scrooge-like person. Holly then sat at her desk and called home and her daughter, Lucy, picked up the phone.

She told Lucy that she would be home soon but odds were Lucy would be in bed by the time she got home and then asked Lucy to give the phone to the babysitter, Paulina.

She asked Paulina if John had called but Paulina said he had not. Holly noticed a family picture on her desk and she put it down. Bedelia reprised her role of Holly Gennaro McClane in "Die Hard 2: Die Harder".

She was also in the films "Presumed Innocent" and "Sordid Lives".

White played Argyle in "Die Hard". Argyle was seen holding a sign at LAX which said "Mr. McClane" on it so John told him he was Mr. McClane. Argyle introduced himself and said he would be John's limo driver that day. In the limo, Argyle told John that they had literally everything in the limo which included a TV, CD player and more. John and Argyle then started to talk about Holly and John said she had been living in Los Angeles for the past six months due to a good job which she had. John stated he was still back in New York City as a cop so Argyle then asked if John was divorced but John did not answer the question.

He asked Argyle to continue driving and Argyle decided to put in a tape to play some music. White guest starred on the TV series "T.J. Hooker", "Quincy M.E." and "Stingray".

Shigeta, born in 1933 in Hawaii, landed the role of Joseph Takagi. Joseph was at an office party in his first scene and John approached him to ask where he could find Holly. Joseph told John he knew who he was and who he was looking for so he asked him how his plane ride was. John responded to Joseph that it went fine. John complimented Joseph on having a nice business so Joseph said it would be even better if he could finish some improvements he was making on it. Joseph informed John that Holly went to the ballroom to fax some documents but that she would back any moment. Joseph then took John to Holly's office so he could wait there for her once she returned. Joseph asked John if he could get him any food or champagne while he waited for Holly but John assured him he was fine. Shigeta guest starred on the TV shows "Beverly Hills, 90210", "Cybill" and "Dragnet".

Answer: Hart Bochner

Bochner was cast as Harry Ellis in this installment of the "Die Hard" series. Harry Ellis worked at the same company as Holly did and it was revealed that he oversaw the company's international operations. While Harry and others were partying at the office, Hans Gruber and his men overtook the building and held the people captive. Harry was seen telling himself to remain calm even though that seemed difficult at that time. Harry was seen watching Hans Gruber look for Joseph Takagi right after he took over the building. Midway through the movie, Harry spoke to Holly and she told him that she believed John was trying to foil Hans Gruber's plan. Harry worried that John could mess everything up but Holly assured him that John was simply doing his job.

When Harry suggested he and Holly might still get out alive, she told him to tell that to Joseph Takagi. Bochner portrayed characters in the movies "Islands in the Steam", "Rich and Famous" and "Terror Train".

Gilyard Jr., born on December 24th, 1955 in Moses Lake, Washington, played Theo. Theo was one of Hans Gruber's henchmen and was first seen entering the building where Holly worked and where a party was being held on Christmas Eve. Theo was with someone else and the other person shot the lobby receptionist.

Theo then went over to the computer to hack into the security system and shut the building down. As he did this, the escalators stopped moving and the gates closed, preventing anyone from entering the building. Right after Hans spoke to Joseph in private, he asked him to give Theo the code key information so Hans could grab a hold of millions of dollars in Joseph's vault.

Theo watched as Hans shot Joseph in the head after Joseph refused to give him the code key information. Gilyard, Jr. had roles in the films "Top Gun", "Left Behind" and "The Big One: The Great Los Angeles Earthquake".

Answer: Alexander Godunov

Godunov, a native of Sakhalin, Russia, portrayed Karl. Karl was another one of Hans' henchmen and he was first seen entering the lobby building and shooting the lobby receptionist. Karl then went throughout the building with other henchmen to hold the people inside captive. Right after Hans killed Joseph, Karl head a sound and he went to go investigate. Karl looked through a couple of rooms but could not locate anyone.

After he could not find anything, Karl reported back to Hans that there was nothing.

When Karl's brother was killed by John in a scuffle, Hans had one of his men report to Karl via a walkie talkie what had happened. Godunov starred in the movies "Waxwork II: Lost in Time", "The Money Pit" and "The Runestone".

Answer: Alan Rickman

Rickman, born in 1946 in Hammersmith, London, England, landed the role of Hans Gruber. Right after Karl had found out his brother had been killed, Hans went to calm him down and he informed him that they would stick to the original plan which they had and nothing would be changed.

While John was on the roof in one scene, he radioed for help and Hans Gruber overheard this so he sent his men to go inspect the roof. When the men radioed back to Hans, he told him that the elevators had been shut off so all they had to do was find John. Shortly after this, Hans then radioed back to Karl to tell him that the police likely were on their way and that he could only stall the police for so long.

When many police officers showed up at the building, Hans told his men to relax since police action was inevitable. Hans then got a call on his walkie talkie and he assumed it was one of his men but it was John McClane on the other end. Rickman was seen in the films "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone", "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" and "Quigley Down Under".

In 2003, the American Film Institute ranked Hans Gruber as the 46th best movie villain/villainess of all time out of 50 characters.

Answer: Reginald VelJohnson

VelJohnson, born on August 16th, 1952 in Queens, New York, was cast as Al Powell. Al was a Sergeant for the Los Angeles Police Department and was seen at a convenience store buying his pregnant wife some snacks. The clerk assumed that Al was buying them for himself and joked that he thought cops only ate donuts. That was when Al informed him they were for his pregnant wife.

He asked the clerk to put all the snacks in a paper bag and the clerk did this. As Al walked out of the store, he got a call on his radio of a disturbance at an office building in Los Angeles and he said he would respond to it.

When Sgt. Powell got to the building, he drove around it and radioed back to the dispatcher that there were no signs of a disturbance. The dispatcher advised Sgt. Powell to do another search around the building so he continued driving and then radioed back that he saw a guard inside the building so he was going to go inside and talk to him. VelJohnson portrayed characters in guest starring roles on the TV shows "Chuck", "Monk" and "Eve".

Answer: Paul Gleason

Gleason, a native of Jersey City, New Jersey, played Dwayne Robinson. Dwayne was the Deputy Chief of Police of Los Angeles and spoke to Sgt. Powell about the calls they were getting from the office building where Hans held people captive. In one scene, he told Sgt. Powell that he could not be certain they were dealing with terrorists as there were no demands.

In light of the fact they did not get demands, he also informed Sgt. Powell it could be the case there were no hostages. When Sgt. Powell brought up the incident where a dead body landed on his squad car right outside the building, Dwayne suggested it could have been a depressed stockbroker who committed suicide. Shortly after this, Sgt. Powell suggested to Dwayne that the man inside (he was referring to John McClane) was a cop but Dwayne stated the person could be a bartender for all he knew.

In a later scene, Deputy Chief Robinson was with Sgt. Powell when he got a call that the FBI was about to arrive to consult with them on the incident at the office building. Gleason guest starred on the TV series "Malcolm in the Middle", "Dawson's Creek" and "Chicago Hope".
