Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I dropped one of Johnny Cage's suitcases into the water. Who played me?

Answer: Robin Shou

Shou, born on July 17th, 1960 in Hong Kong, China, played Liu Kang in "Mortal Kombat". Liu returned home to China upon hearing that his brother, Chan, had been killed. He met Lord Rayden, God of Lightning, who informed him of a tournament called Mortal Kombat which would consist of the world's greatest fighters. Lord Rayden told Liu where to board the boat which would take him to the place where the tournament was held.

While waiting to get on the boat, Liu met Johnny Cage and Johnny asked him to carry his luggage.

After Johnny gave him money to do this, Liu took one suitcase and dropped it into the water. Liu participated in the tournament and ended up killing Sub Zero and Reptile. In the film's final battle, Liu Kang challenged Shang Tsung to a duel and was victorious since he knocked him to his death. Shou reprised his role of Liu Kang in "Mortal Kombat: Annihilation".

He also had parts in the films "Beverly Hills Ninja" and "Death Race".
2. I literally gave Kano a break. Who played me?

Answer: Bridgette Wilson

Wilson, a native of Gold Beach, Oregon, portrayed Sonya Blade. Sonya was in law enforcement and hunted down Kano since he was wanted for murder. She entered a club in Hong Kong and asked an associate where she could find Kano. Sonya then ran into Shang Tsung, who told her Kano would be at a pier the following evening. Sonya saw Kano at the pier and followed him onto the boat which consisted of other participants in the Mortal Kombat tournament. Midway through the movie, Sonya faced Kano in a fight and got him in a headlock. Kano begged her to give him a break so Sonya used her legs to break his neck. Wilson portrayed characters in the movies "Billy Madison", "The Wedding Planner" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer".
3. Goro broke my glasses but he could not break me. Who played me?

Answer: Linden Ashby

Ashby, born in 1960 in Atlantic Beach, Florida, landed the part of Johnny Cage. Johnny was an actor who was informed about the Mortal Kombat tournament by a colleague while filming a scene one day. Johnny went to the pier to board the boat to be taken to where the tournament was held. Along the way, he bickered with Sonya Blade but the two grew to like each other as the movie progressed. Johnny Cage had his first match with Scorpion whom he managed to defeat.

After a friend of his was killed by one of Shang Tsung's confidants, Goro, Johnny Cage asked Shang Tsung if he could fight Goro. Shang Tsung approved the fight and it was at the beginning of it where he took off his sunglasses only to see Goro take them and crush them. Johnny ran away so Goro followed him and they fought alongside a mountain ledge. Johnny sideswiped Goro and he slipped over the ledge but managed to grab on to it. Johnny watched as Goro lost his grip and fell to his death. Ashby guest starred on the TV show "CSI: Miami". From 1997 to 1998, he played Dr. Brett Cooper on the primetime soap opera "Melrose Place". From 2003 to 2004, he portrayed Cameron Kirsten on the CBS daytime drama series "The Young and the Restless".
4. I gave Liu some pointers on his fight with Sub Zero. Who played me?

Answer: Talisa Soto

Soto played Princess Kitana in "Mortal Kombat". In the middle of the film, Kitana and Liu fought by the beach and it was during their fight where she gave him advice on his next fight whenever she took him down to the ground. One piece of advice she offered him was to use the element which gives life. Kitana showed up to watch Liu fight Sub Zero and her words on using the element to bring life came in handy for him when he saw a bucket of water.

She watched as Liu used the bucket to counter Sub Zero's final maneuver of freezing opponents to death.

After Sonya Blade had been abducted by Shang Tsung to the Wastelands of Outworld, Liu Kang and Johnny Cage traveled there and they came upon Kitana. She walked them to the place where Shang Tsung kept Sonya and it was on their way there where Kitana advised Liu he would have to face his enemy, himself and his worst nightmare. Soto reprised her role of Princess Kitana in "Mortal Kombat: Annihilation".

She also starred in the films "Licence to Kill", "The Corporate Ladder" and "Spy Hard".
5. Most of my power as a fighter came from deceased warriors' souls. Who played me?

Answer: Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa

Tagawa, born on September 27th, 1950 in Tokyo, Japan, was cast as Shang Tsung. Shang Tsung was in the opening scene when he fought with Chan Kang, Liu's brother. He got the better of Chan since he killed him and sucked his soul into his body. Early on in the film, Shang Tsung met with Kano since he wanted to make sure Kano would get Sonya Blade on the boat which would take the Mortal Kombat participants to the location where the tournament was held.

After Liu Kang defeated his first opponent in the tournament, Shang Tsung sucked that opponent's soul into his body. Shang Tsung mentioned that he exercised his right to challenge whomever he wanted to if he fought in the tournament.

He selected Sonya Blade since he knew she could not defeat him but he ended up fighting Liu Kang.

The result of that battle was Liu shoving Shang Tsung off a ledge to his death due to his falling onto metal spikes. Tagawa guest starred on the TV series "Beyond the Break", "Heroes" and "Walker, Texas Ranger".
6. I told Johnny that I saw a couple of his films and felt his martial arts moves in them were authentic. Who played me?

Answer: Kenneth Edwards

Edwards had the small role of Art Lean in "Mortal Kombat". Art was first seen awaiting the arrival of the boat down by the pier in Hong Kong to board the boat which would take him to the Mortal Kombat tournament. He met Johnny Cage, who recognized him when he fought in London. Art Lee complimented Cage on his stellar martial arts moves in his films. Johnny advised Art to inform the media what he thought since many reporters felt Johnny did not do his own martial arts moves in his movies. Art fought Goro midway through the movie and sadly did not beat him since Goro knocked him out cold. Edwards guest starred on the TV shows "21 Jump Street", "Tour of Duty" and "In the Heart of the Night".
7. Shang Tsung morphed into me when he fought my brother. Who played me?

Answer: Steven Ho

Ho was cast in the small role of Chan Kang, Liu's brother. Chan was killed in the opening scene right after Shang Tsung broke his back. When Liu Kang battled Shang Tsung in the film's final match up, Shang morphed into Chan in an attempt to derail Liu. Shang Tsung, impersonating Chan, said Liu was responsible for Chan's death since Liu was in America at the time Chan died and was not there to save him. Liu shouted back that everyone was responsible for their own destiny and that Shang Tsung killed Chan.

After Liu Kang killed Shang Tsung, the souls of all the warriors he sucked into his body were released, including Chan. Chan's spirit told Liu that they would be reunited one day. Ho portrayed characters in the movies "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End", "The Last Samurai" and "Blade".
8. I showed Liu the place where his brother was killed. Who played me?

Answer: Lloyd Kino

Kino played Liu Kang and Chan Kang's grandfather in "Mortal Kombat", in a minor role. Liu returned to his home in China upon hearing news of Chan's death and was greeted by his grandfather. His grandfather took him to where Liu died and informed Liu that Chan prepared for the Mortal Kombat tournament by studying martial arts.

His grandfather reminded Liu that good people like him had to win the tournament or else Shang Tsung and his men would dominate the world. Liu called that story "nonsense" but his grandfather said that protecting the world was hardly "nonsense". Kino had roles in the films "Godzilla", "The Cable Guy" and "Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous".
9. I yelled at Sonya not to get on the boat to go to the Mortal Kombat tournament. Who played me?

Answer: Gregory McKinney

McKinney, a native of Los Angeles, California, was cast as Jax Briggs. Jax was Sonya's law enforcement partner and he was seen when she entered a club in Hong Kong to search for Kano. The following evening, he and Sonya hid in a secluded place down by the pier where they kept a look out on Kano. Jax commented that he believed Kano was long gone but Sonya spotted him.

As she ran to catch Kano, Jax yelled at Sonya to come back but she refused to listen to him. McKinney starred in the movies "Beverly Hills Cop III", "Eraser" and "Money Train".
10. I promised Shang Tsung that I would lure Sonya Blade onto the boat to be taken to where the Mortal Kombat tournament was held. Who played me?

Answer: Trevor Goddard

Goddard, born in 1962 in Croydon, Surrey, England, portrayed Kano. Kano was wanted for murder and was first spotted in a secret room in a Hong Kong club. While on the boat looking for Kano, Sonya Blade was approached by Johnny Cage. He asked her if he could help her look for Kano but she refused his offer. Kano was then seen one night eating dinner with Goro on the island where the Mortal Kombat tournament was held.

When it came time for Sonya Blade to fight, Shang Tsung told her he had something for her and that was when Kano came out ready to do battle with her. Throughout the fight, Kano only got a few hits on Sonya, which consisted of a kick to the stomach and a smack to the face. Goddard had guest starring stints on the TV shows "Babylon 5", "The X Files" and "Silk Stalkings".
