Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Oh yeah, I've been beaten loads of times."

Answer: Harry Potter

While at dinner, Aunt Marge questions Uncle Vernon about the school where he's sending Harry. She then remarks that she hopes they use a cane there, and asks Harry if they do. Anxious to have Uncle Vernon sign his permission to visit Hogsmeade form, Harry readily goes along with the picture that his uncle is painting.

It is shortly after this that Marge goes too far in insulting Harry's mother, and he loses his temper.
2. "Oh come on Harry, we don't send people to Azkaban for blowing up their aunts."

Answer: Cornelius Fudge

Harry has just arrived at the Leaky Cauldron, after running away from the Dursleys' house, where he left Aunt Marge floating about somewhere. Harry is surprised to find that even though Fudge, the Minister of Magic, is waiting for him, he isn't in any trouble for what he'd done. When he comments that he half expected to be arrested, Fudge responds with this line.
3. "In his mind, you are the only thing that stands in the way of you-know-who returning to power."

Answer: Arthur Weasley

When Harry meets up with all of his friends at the Leaky Cauldron, Arthur Weasley pulls him aside to have a private word. This is when Harry first finds out that everyone believes that Sirius Black broke out of Azkaban for the express purpose of coming after Harry. Mr. Weasley thinks it important that Harry know this, even though many people don't think he should be told.

When Harry asks why Sirius would want to kill him, Mr. Weasley has this answer.
4. "You do not want to insult a hippogriff. It just might be the last thing you ever do."

Answer: Rubeus Hagrid

Recently appointed to teach the Care of Magical Creatures class, Hagrid is anxious to make a good impression. On the first class he brings a hippogriff, a creature that is half-horse and half-bird. He explains to the class that hippogriffs are very proud creatures, and should be treated with a great deal of respect.

After Harry has a successful ride on the hippogriff, Malfoy pushes his way in and insults it, which results in his being attacked.
5. "Boggarts are shape-shifters. They take the shape of whatever a particular person fears the most."

Answer: Hermione Granger

Professor Lupin is conducting a Defense Against the Dark Arts class, and is introducing the students to a Boggart, which he has trapped in a wardrobe. Before he tells the class how to combat a Boggart, he asks if anyone knows what it looks like. Hermione remarks that nobody does, and adds this explanation. The students then take turns facing the Boggart.
6. "When you fell, your broom sort of blew into the Whomping Willow."

Answer: Ron Weasley

Griffindor's Quidditch team had to play a game in a very bad storm. Drawn by the excitement, the Dementors flew over the game, getting closer and closer to Harry until he eventually passed out and fell to the ground. Dumbledore was able to use magic to break his fall, but his broom was blown into the Whomping Willow, where it was destroyed.

When he came to in the hospital, Ron told him the bad news, and presented him with the pile of sticks which was all that remained of his broom.
7. "The Dementors affect you because there are true horrors in your past...horrors your classmates can scarcely imagine."

Answer: Professor Lupin

Embarrassed by having fainted for a second time, because of the Dementors at the Quidditch match (the first time being on the Hogwarts Express), Harry asks Professor Lupin why they have that effect on him and not on any other student. Lupin explains that Dementors cause people to relive their very worst memories. Since Harry has had worse experiences in his life than almost any of the other students, it was only logical that he would be more profoundly affected by having to relive those moments.
8. "You, you foul, loathsome, evil, little cockroach!"

Answer: Hermione Granger

On the night of Buckbeak's scheduled execution, Hermione, Ron and Harry found Draco Malfoy and his friends hiding in a good spot to watch the beheading. Malfoy's remarks about his father having promised that he could have the hippogriff's head sent Hermione into an absolute fury, because it was Malfoy's actions that had led to Buckbeak being sentenced to death. Ron and Harry talked Hermione out of attacking Malfoy with her wand, but she did punch him in the face.
9. "Well, you'd know all about the madness within...wouldn't you Remus?"

Answer: Sirius Black

When Lupin bursts into the Shrieking Shack and stops Harry from killing Black, he says, "Well, well Sirius, looking rather ragged aren't we? Finally the flesh reflects the madness within." This is Black's response, a reference to the fact that Lupin is a werewolf.
10. "I just didn't think my dad would want his two best friends to become killers."

Answer: Harry

Once Harry becomes convinced that it was Pettigrew who betrayed his parents and caused their deaths, Lupin and Black aim their wands and are prepared to kill Pettigrew. Harry stops them, insisting instead that Pettigrew be brought in alive. Sirius remarks that it was a noble decision that Harry made, and he responds with this quote.
11. "If you succeed tonight, more than one innocent life will be spared."

Answer: Professor Dumbledore

Once Pettigrew escapes, and Black has been locked in a tower room of the castle, awaiting the Dementor's kiss, Dumbledore advises Harry and Hermione on a way to make everything right, using Hermione's Time-Turner. This remark encourages our friends to save Buckbeak before his execution, and then to use Buckbeak to help Sirius escape from his fate.
12. "Is that really what my hair looks like from the back?"

Answer: Hermione Granger

After having used the Time-Turner, Hermione and Harry were waiting for events in the past to happen, so they could act without being seen. While watching herself in action, Hermione makes this remark. I have included it in the quiz because it is so out of character for the very bright, and usually practical, Hermione to show such concern about her appearance.
13. "The ones that love us never really leave us...and you can always find them in here."

Answer: Sirius Black

After Harry and Hermione rescue Sirius from the tower, they take a few minutes to say goodbye before Sirius flees on Buckbeak's back. During this conversation Sirius counsels Harry about a few of the important things in life, touching Harry's chest when he speaks this line, to indicate where Harry could find the people that love him.
14. "Honestly Ron, how could somebody be in two places at once?"

Answer: Harry Potter

Because of his leg injury, Ron was unable to accompany Harry and Hermione when they went back in time. Since they Hermione did not take the time to explain what was happening to Ron before they left, all Ron knew was that they disappeared from in front of his eyes, and walked back into the room seconds later.

He expressed his confusion by pointing out that they were just one place, and then appeared in another, and Harry responded with this line.
15. "If I am proud of anything, it is of how much you have learned this year."

Answer: Professor Lupin

After the night's activities, when it has become public knowledge that Lupin is a werewolf, Harry find Lupin packing as he gets ready to leave. Once he learns that Lupin was not fired, but was resigning, Harry tries to talk him into staying. Lupin explains why this cannot be, and leaves Harry with these words of encouragement.
