Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I disobeyed my father when traveling to a forbidden area of land. Who voiced me?

Answer: Jonathan Taylor Thomas

Thomas, born on September 8th, 1981 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, lent his voice to Simba when he was a young cub. Simba was Mufasa and Sarabi's son and was the first in line to become King of Pride Rock since Mufasa was the King. Mufasa informed Simba that their land included everything the sun touched so this piqued Simba's curiosity when he asked his father about a nearby dark area of land. Mufasa said it was forbidden and he was to never go there. Simba disobeyed his father and went there with his friend, Nala, one day.

He realized the land was inhabited by hyenas and both he and Nala were nearly killed by the hyenas. Thomas guest starred on the TV shows "Smallville" and "Ally McBeal". He is best known for his portrayal of Randall "Randy" Taylor on the TV show "Home Improvement".
2. One day, Simba said he wanted to go to the waterhole. I wound up going someplace else with him that day. Who voiced me?

Answer: Niketa Calame

Calame, a native of Los Angeles, California, voiced a young Nala, Simba's friend, in "The Lion King". Simba and Nala played together one day and Simba asked her if she wanted to go to this exciting place. When Nala asked him what place, he mentioned the waterhole, much to her dismay. Simba whispered to her that he wanted to go someplace else and only mentioned the waterhole to keep it a surprise for Nala. Sarabi, Simba's mom, granted them permission to go to the waterhole.

It was on their way there that Simba and Nala went on a different path and wound up in the hyena's homeland.

While running away from the attacking hyenas, Nala started to slip down a ledge so Simba went down to help her and, in doing so, scratched one of the hyenas. Calama starred in the films "CB4", "Viewfinder" and "Moments".
3. I died in a stampede of wildebeests while saving my son. Who voiced me?

Answer: James Earl Jones

Jones, born in 1931 in Arkabutla, Mississippi, provided the voice for Mufasa. Mufasa was the King of Pride Rock and brother to the film's antagonist, Scar. Mufasa spoke with Simba one day about how all the animals were part of the circle of life since he wanted Simba to understand the kingdom of Pride Rock.

When Simba and Nala were cornered by three hyenas, Mufasa rescued them and scolded Simba for disobeying him and putting Nala in danger. Simba apologized to his father and said he wanted to be brave like him. Mufasa informed him how being brave did not mean you went looking for trouble. One day, Mufasa was informed of Simba being caught in the midst of a wildebeest stampede and went down to rescue him. Sadly, Mufasa died at the hands of his brother, Scar. Jones starred in the movies "Field of Dreams" and "The Sandlot".

He is best known for lending his voice to the popular villain, Darth Vader, in "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope", "Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back" and "Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi".

In 1971, he received an Oscar nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role for the film "The Great White Hope", but lost to George C. Scott for "Patton". Other Oscar nominees for Best Actor in a Leading Role that year were Jack Nicholson for "Five Easy Pieces", Melvyn Douglas for "I Never Sang for My Father" and Ryan O'Neal for "Love Story".
4. I joked with my hyena friends that we could make Simba and Nala into a "cub sandwich". Who voiced me?

Answer: Whoopi Goldberg

Goldberg lent her voice to Shenzi, one of the hyenas. Shenzi and her two hyena friends, Ed and Banzai, discovered Simba and Nala trespassing on their land and told them they wanted them to stick around for dinner. This was when Shenzi joked about how they could make both Simba and Nala into a "cub sandwich".

In the scene where the hyenas failed to kill Simba, Banzai got caught up in a bush of thorns and this led to Shenzi calling him "cactus butt". At the end of the movie, Shenzi and her hyena friends killed Scar after he falsely claimed that they arranged for Mufasa to die. Goldberg portrayed characters in the films "Girl, Interrupted", "Made in America" and "Jumpin' Jack Flash".
5. I desperately wanted to eat a wildebeest but Shenzi told me not to do it. Who voiced me?

Answer: Cheech Marin

Marin, born on July 13th, 1946 in Los Angeles, California, voiced Banzai, one of the hyenas. Banzai got upset with Ed since he laughed about Mufasa preventing them from killing Simba and Nala. Banzai stated how much he hated lions, so Scar asked him if he meant all lions. Banzai clarified that Scar was the exception. Scar told all three hyenas of a plan he hatched to kill Simba and Mufasa.

In the next scene, the three hyenas stood near a bunch of wildebeests and Banzai spoke of how he wanted to eat one but Shenzi told him not to do it since Scar wanted all the wildebeests ready to go on a stampede. Banzai and the other two hyenas noticed Scar's signal to get the wildebeests running so they snapped at them, which caused them to run. Marin guest starred on the TV series "Mind of Mencia", "Grey's Anatomy" and "Lost".
6. I let Simba believe that he was responsible for Mufasa's death. Who voiced me?

Answer: Jeremy Irons

Irons, a native of Cowes, Isle of Wright, England, lent his voice to Scar in "The Lion King". Scar was Mufasa's brother and therefore Simba's uncle and he was jealous over Mufasa being the first to provide a male heir to the kingdom of Pride Rock. When Mufasa was in the middle of the wildebeest stampede, he leaped onto a cliff to get to safety and noticed Scar at the top of the cliff.

He asked Scar to help him but Scar threw him down to his death. Scar told Simba that Mufasa was dead and convinced Simba that he was responsible for it. Simba asked Scar what he should do so he encouraged him to run away and never return. Scar took over Pride Rock and enforced a rule for the hyenas and lions to live together.

At the end of the movie, an adult Simba returned to Pride Rock to do battle with Scar but Scar told Simba to admit that he caused his father's death.

As Scar was about to throw Simba into a burning fire, he confessed to killing Mufasa so Simba leaped up and pinned Scar to the ground. He told Scar to tell everyone the truth about killing Mufasa.

However, Scar lied by saying it was the hyenas who planned his death. In their final battle scene, Simba threw Scar off a cliff but he survived. When the hyenas confronted Scar, he called them his "friends" but Shenzi stated how he had just deemed them his "enemies" so the hyenas killed Scar. Irons portrayed characters in the films "Die Hard with a Vengeance", "The Time Machine" and "Stealing Beauty". In 1991, he won an Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role for the film, "Reversal of Fortune". Other Oscar nominees for Best Actor in a Leading Role that year were Kevin Costner for "Dances with Wolves", Richard Harris for "The Field", Gerard Depardieu for "Cyrano de Bergerac" and Robert De Niro for "Awakenings".
7. I accompanied Simba and Nala on their journey to the waterhole. Who voiced me?

Answer: Rowan Atkinson

Atkinson, born in 1955 in Consett, County Durham, England, voiced Zazu. Zazu was a bird and trusted confidant of Mufasa and Sarabi. When Simba and Nala asked Sarabi if they could go to the waterhole one day, she agreed so long as Zasu went with them. Zazu lost track of Simba and Nala and this led to the two lions going off to the hyenas' homeland.

When he caught up to them, he urged them to leave but it was too late since Shenzi, Banzai and Ed heard them talking. After Mufasa rescued Simba and Nala, he told Zazu to take Nala home so he could have a private talk with Simba. Atkinson starred in the movies "Bean", "Scooby-Doo" and "Love Actually".
8. I was both a meerkat and Simba's friend. Who voiced me?

Answer: Nathan Lane

Lane provided voice work as Timon, a meerkat who traveled with a warthog named Pumbaa. When Simba went into exile, Timon and Pumbaa came upon him while he slept and they managed to wake him up. Simba informed them of how he did something horrible and he could not go back to where he came. Timon and Pumbaa stated that the best thing for him to do with his life was to take up a philosophy called "hakuna matata", which translated to "no worries".

At the end of the movie, Timon and Pumbaa assisted the lions of Pride Rock when they battled the hyenas. Lane starred in the films "Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!", "Mousehunt" and "The Birdcage".
9. I spoke to my deceased father when he appeared to me from the sky. Who voiced me?

Answer: Matthew Broderick

Broderick, born on March 21st, 1962 in New York City, voiced the adult Simba. Simba became an adult when he lived with Timon and Pumbaa. One night, they gazed upon the stars and Simba noted how he had once been told that the stars represented people who had died. Timon and Pumbaa scoffed at his idea and this led to Simba walking away in private for some time alone. Simba then noticed his father appear to him from the sky and this was when Mufasa encouraged him to not run from his past but confront it. Simba ran back to Pride Rock to reclaim the kingdom from Scar and was successful. Broderick had roles in the movies "The Cable Guy", "Glory" and "Addicted to Love"."
10. I told Simba that he had to come back to Pride Rock since the animals lacked food and water. Who voiced me?

Answer: Moira Kelly

Kelly, a native of Queens, New York, lent her voice to the adult Nala. Nala was first seen as an adult when she noticed Pumbaa one day and went to attack him. She also saw Timon and lunged at him as well. Timon and Pumbaa screamed for help so Simba battled with Nala.

When Nala pinned him to the ground, this reminded Simba of how he and Nala pinned each other to the ground when they wrestled around as cubs. Simba informed Nala who he was so they rejoiced but the reunion did not last long since Nala informed Simba how Scar told everyone at Pride Rock that he had died.

She demanded that Simba return since the animals there had little food and water all on account of Scar being the King. At the end of the movie, Simba and Nala welcomed a new cub who was heir to the kingdom. All the animals of the kingdom attended a ceremony to get their first glimpse of Simba and Nala's cub. Kelly guest starred on the TV shows "Heroes" and "Law and Order".

She also portrayed Mandy Hampton on the first season of "The West Wing".
