Jack Nicholson won an Oscar for his performance of Melvin Udall in "As Good As It Gets" (1997). Jack's character Melvin always tries to avoid stepping on cracks in the pavement. A dog in the film can also be seen doing this in the film after a little digital help in post-production.

Marlon Brando won the Best Actor Oscar for "On The Waterfront" in 1955. His second came in 1973 for "The Godfather". "On the Waterfront" concerns a story about a corrupt Dockers Union boss. Shortly after the film was released, the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) coincidentally expelled the East Coast longshoremen's union because it was still run by the mob.

Answer: The Iron Lady

Meryl Streep played Margaret Thatcher, the first female UK Prime Minister in the film "The Iron Lady" (2011). It was her third Best Actress Oscar win. In the film, Margaret Thatcher is seen making ice cream. She was in actual fact a chemist before entering politics and was a member of the team that developed the emulsifier used in that type of ice cream.

Katharine Hepburn won her third Oscar for "On Golden Pond" (1981). She is one of a select few to win Best Actor/Actress Oscars in consecutive years (1968 and 1969 for "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" and "The Lion in Winter" respectively). The rights to the play on which the film "On Golden Pond" was based were bought by Jane Fonda, daughter of Henry Fonda who played the male lead in the film.

Robert De Niro played Jake La Motta in the film "Raging Bull" (1980). It was made in black and white for time authenticity and to make it different to "Rocky" (1976). La Motta was a boxer who was a formidable fighter in the ring. He was unfortunately prone to using his fists at home also.

Vivien Leigh starred as Scarlett O'Hara in "Gone with the Wind" (1939). She was born in India. Hattie McDaniel won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for the same film but was unable to see the premier in Atlanta because of racial segregation laws.

Answer: It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World

In the film, a taxi driver reveals in his dying moments, that he has buried a treasure of stolen loot under the 'Big W'. Other drivers who heard him take part in a mad race to find it even though they have no idea what the 'Big W' refers to. Stan Laurel was originally offered the part played by Jack Benny but when Oliver Hardy had died some years earlier, Laurel had pledged he would never perform without him and he never did. Spencer Tracy, who was one of the greatest Hollywood stars at the time was not in good health. Stanley Kramer, the director of the film, allowed Tracy to work only 3-4 hours a day and filmed Tracy's part in just nine days. Spencer made just one more film, "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner", in the four years before his death.

Al Pacino starred in "Scent of a Woman" (1992). He played a retired, blind, Lieutenant Colonel who defends the honour of a young male student. In one scene, Pacino is seen to fall over a rubbish bin which really was an accident kept in the film.

Daniel Day-Lewis won his second Oscar for "There Will Be Blood" (2007). In the film his character delivers a speech to the citizens of Little Boston, about building schools, bringing bread to the town, etc. It was apparently totally improvised by Daniel. He is the son of Cecil Day-Lewis, who was Poet Laureate of the UK.

Dustin Hoffman is the voice of Shifu in the "Kung Fu Panda" films. His breakthrough film role was as Benjamin Braddock in the critically acclaimed "The Graduate" (1967).
