Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Bring It On" came out in 2000. Missy (Eliza Dushku): "OK, so I never cheered before. So what? What about doing something that actually requires ___________."

Answer: neurons

"Bring It On" stars Eliza Dushku as Missy. The movie is about high school cheerleaders making their way to Nationals. Missy and head cheerleader, Torrance, are from the Rancho Carne Toros and they have to battle an equally talented squad in the East Compton Clovers. Gabrielle Union plays the Clovers head cheerleader Isis and Kirsten Dunst plays Torrance. I would say that Eliza has a really memorable performance in this movie, but a lot of her fans know her as Faith the Vampire Slayer from the "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" television series. Did you know that Kevin Smith ("Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back") nicknamed her Duck Shoot?
2. "Notting Hill" came out in 1999. "I've been on a diet every day since I was _________, which basically means I've been hungry for a decade."

Answer: 19

This was from Julia Robert's character Anna Scott. She was talking to Honey, played by Emma Chambers. "Notting Hill" was about a lonely superstar taking a break from Hollywood to find love with an ordinary English man. The incredibly talented Hugh Grant played the part of William Thacker, Anna's love interest. An interesting tidbit about Hugh is his birth name: Hugh John Mungo Grant. Try and say that 3 times really fast!
3. The thriller "Valentine" came out in 2001. This is a quote read aloud by Shelly from her Valentine card: "The journey of love is AN __________ trek; My love grows for you as you bleed from your neck."

Answer: arduous

Katherine Heigl portrayed Shelly, but is better know for her roles as Isabel on the television series "Roswell", and Isobel again on "Grey's Anatomy". "Valentine" is a thriller about an obsessed reject (literally) who stalks four friends years after they all embarrassed him at a junior high dance... or is it? I don't want to spoil it for anyone who has not seen it yet. David Boreanaz (Angel/Angelus the vampire from TV's "Buffy" and "Angel") played Adam Carr. Did you know that David was discovered while walking his dog?
4. "Minority Report" was released in 2002. John Anderton: "There hasn't been a murder in _____ years. The system, it is perfect."

Answer: 6

"Minority Report" is a futuristic movie setting where criminals are apprehended before they ever commit a murder. Tom Cruise plays the character Chief John Anderton, and Jessica Capshaw plays Evanna in the movie. She is director Steven Spielberg's stepdaughter. Steven is married to her mother Kate Capshaw. Kate played Willie Scott in Steven's 1984 movie "Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom".
5. This quote is from the 1999 movie "Cruel Intentions". Sebastian says this to Kathryn: "That's a _____ Jaguar Roadster. What makes you think I'll go for that bet?"

Answer: 1956

"Cruel Intentions" stars Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers herself) as Kathryn, and Ryan Phillippe as the scandalous Sebastian Valmont. This movie is about step-siblings who manipulate people in every possible way for their own amusement. It is Sebastian's desire for Kathryn that propels him to attempt a seduction of the chaste Annette. Annette is played by Ryan's real life wife Reese Witherspoon. Sarah and Ryan first starred together in 1997's "I Know What You Did Last Summer".
6. "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion" came out in 1997. Romy says: "Actually, I have been trying this new fat free diet I invented. All I've had to eat for the past six days are gummy bears, jelly beans, and candy _______."

Answer: corns

"Romy and Michele's High School Reunion" starred Lisa Kudrow (Michele) and Mira Sorvino (Romy). They play best friends who go to their ten-year high school reunion and lie about what has happened since their days as ditzy outcasts. Mira graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard University in 1990, and Lisa has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Vassar College. I'd say these are very smart women!
7. This quote is from 1999's "American Beauty". Who said this to their spouse? "You don't get to tell me what to do ever again."

Answer: Lester Burnham

This movie shows the not so perfect lives of middle American families. It illustrates that just because something looks good from the outside does not mean the people living it are happy. Lester Burnham earned Kevin Spacey the Oscar for Best Actor. Did you know that Kevin attended high school with Val Kilmer?
8. The movie is 1989's "Field of Dreams". Terence Mann to Ray Kinsella: "I'm going to beat your head in with a _______ until you go away!"

Answer: crowbar

Ray is a farmer on the brink of losing it all when he hears a voice say "If you build it, he will come." He is inspired to mow down acres of corn and create a baseball field for the ghosts of players past to use. He even gets the chance to see his own father young and full of life. James Earl Jones plays Terence Mann in this much loved drama. James, known as the voice of Darth Vader in "Star Wars", has struggled his entire life to control a stutter.

His voice is also heard on cable television saying the phrase "This is CNN".
9. In 2001's "A Beautiful Mind" John Nash says: "There has to be a ___________ explanation for how bad that tie is."

Answer: mathematical

"A Beautiful Mind" is an adaptation of the real life of Mathematician John Nash. Russell Crow does an excellent job of portraying this Nobel Prize winner in an account of how schizophrenia took control of his life for many years. John believed he was working for a secret agency in the area of cryptography.

The movie does not show that Nash and his wife Alicia were divorced, but they were. Jennifer Connelly won an Oscar for her portrayal of his wife Alicia Larde Nash. Did you know that she can speak Italian and French fluently?
10. I saved my favorite movie for last, and it is 1986's "Aliens". Hicks (Michael Biehn): "Hey! I know we're all in strung out shape, but stay _______, and alert."

Answer: frosty

"Aliens" is James Cameron's extremely successful sequel to the 1979 movie "Alien". This time Ripley has to return to LV-426 to serve as an adviser in the possible rescue of the planet's colonists. She warns them before, during, and after their trip to take it seriously, but no one pays her much mind. Once again, the Xenomorphic life form wreaks havoc on the visitors, but this time their numbers are breathtaking.

In the end, only two people from the Sulaco survive. Do you remember which two? Ripley is played by actress Sigourney Weaver.

In the very beginnings of the "Alien" story, Ripley was written as a man. The story would have been a lot different if that had stayed true. Did you know that Susan Weaver changed her name to Sigourney after reading "The Great Gatsby"?
