In this 1994 remake of the classic film "Miracle on 34th Street", McDermott plays Bryan, the boyfriend of Dorey Walker (Elizabeth Perkins). In the 2007 horror film "The Messengers", McDermott plays Roy, who moves his family to North Dakota so he can start sunflower farm. The family is dysfunctional and broke stemming from an incident in which Roy's daughter Jess (Kristen Stewart) seriously injured her younger brother Ben (played by twins Evan and Theodore Turner).
