Freda Payne did "Band of Gold" in 1970.. This Neil Young gem was #18 for the year based on my tabulations.. the Top three for '72 are #3-"I Gotcha" by Joe Tex, (seriously) #2- Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Alone Again (Naturally) and #1- Roberta Flack's "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face"

Do you remember the commercial a few years ago w/Dick Clark and the two women in the elevator? (Thought I'd Ask) Carole King's "It's Too Late (baby now) was '71 (#4 for the year). This one was one of CB&SR two top three hits; the other was "Treat Her Like a Lady" from '71 and interestingly, I place both at #27 for their year's.
3. They gave us a sense of security with "I'll Be Around"?

Answer: The Spinners

#68 for the year.. this was their 2nd top 20 hit, the first was "It's a Shame" from 1970. (Yes had the hit "Roundabout" this year #108 for 1972)

This song is a Huge reason he's Mr. Las Vegas! #23 for 1972!

The band took the name of their Keyboardist Rod Argent who was a major part of one of the greatest bands ever.. The Zombies! "Hold Your Head Up" was their only stateside hit.. #83 "Day by Day" was from 'Godspell' & #129 for 1972

Their first Top 40 hit was #77 for the year.. "Get Closer" in 1976 would be their biggest (#45 for that year).

The Stones rolled up to #81 for the year with this one. The Queen of covers would peak at only #32 (on the top 40 chart) with her remake in 1978. Saga did "Wind Him Up" in 1983, a great song about gambling!

Brewer & Shipley did "One Toke over the Line" (#85 for 1971).. while the Kinks have "How are You? on their 'Think Visual' album. M & M ended up at #60 for the year.

Mac Davis hit #1 and #13 for the year w/"Baby Don't get Hooked on Me". Climax had the big; #28 for the year, "Precious and Few". This was Cher's 3rd top 40 this year (#180) following "The Way of Love" (#7 & #69) and "A Cowboy's Work is Never Done" (#8 & #75) w/Sonny.
23. Who was "Runnin' Away"?

Answer: Sly & the Family Stone

One of Sly & Co.'s last hits was #172.. Jackson would be "Running on Empty" in 1978. JoJo Gunne did hit w/"Run, Run, Run" this year (#201) and the Tops had "You Keep Running Away" in 1967.
