Even while touring with the Allman Joys, a predecessor to the Allman Brothers Band, Gregg regarded music as a temporary means to earn money for college.
2. The early Allman Joys experienced personnel changes and eventually became Hour Glass. Who was the drummer for Hour Glass?

Answer: Johnny Sandlin

Johnny Sandlin was the drummer in the Men-its, an Alabama band that played the same circuit of Deep South clubs and honky tonks as did the Allman Joys. The Men-its and the Allman joys more or less merged to form Hour Glass. Trucks, Jaimo, and Toler later played drums for the Brothers. Sandlin later became a studio musician and producer for Capricorn Records.

He actually played drums on one song by the Brothers, "Louisiana Lou and Three Card Monty John" on the Win, Lose, or Draw album, when Trucks and Jaimo were unavailable.

Duane played guitar with Pickett as a studio musician in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Duane already had the nickname of "Dog" and the two nicknames combined into the famous "Skydog" moniker which became the quintessential tag for Duane.

The skinny kids went on to fame and fortune as the Allman Brothers Band, but they can occasionally be found in the restaurant today.
