Answer: Desmond Dekker and The Aces

Desmond Dekker is best remembered for his 1969 Number One hit "The Israelites" but "007" charted first. It reached Number 14 in the British charts in 1967, almost two years before "The Israelites".
2. "2-4-6-8 Motorway" was a hit in 1977. It was usually a guaranteed dance-floor filler, but who sang it?

Answer: Tom Robinson Band

"2-4-6-8 Motorway" was Tom Robinson's first and highest placed hit single. It reached Number Five in October '77. His only other top ten hit was "War Baby", Number Six in '83.
3. Although mostly considered an album band, this British outfit have also had several hit singles amongst which is "2+2=5". This was a hit in 2003 for which band?

Answer: Radiohead

Radiohead sold millions of copies of their albums "The Bends" and "OK Computer" in the mid-nineties. The single "2+2=5" was taken from their 2003 album "Hail to the Thief". The album reached Number One in the charts but the single fared less well, only reaching Number 15.
4. "C'30, C'60, C'90, Go" was the first chart success for which band in 1980?

Answer: Bow Wow Wow

Bow Wow Wow were managed by former Sex Pistols boss Malcolm McClaren, so it was no surprise that they courted controversy. The cover of their first album featured an almost naked shot of 14-year old lead singer Annabella Lwin, which guaranteed notoriety. Their first hit single (not featured on that album) reached Number 36 in the charts.
5. Which band caught the "5.15" train in 1973?

Answer: The Who

The single "5.15" was taken from The Who's "Quadrophenia" album. The single reached Number 20 in 1973 and the album reached Number Two.
6. Countdowns were big news in the '60s with the 'space race' hotting up but whose first chart success was "5-4-3-2-1" in 1964?

Answer: Manfred Mann

Some of Manfred Mann's biggest hits were with Bob Dylan songs, such as "The Mighty Quinn" and "Just Like a Woman" but this was the song that began their chart career, reaching Number Five in 1964.
7. Which soul act was keen on the phone number "634-5789" in 1966?

Answer: Wilson Pickett

The late, great Wilson Pickett never had a top ten hit in Britain. This minor classic, covered by Ry Cooder and several others, only reached Number 36!
8. "1999" has been a hit on three separate occasions for this artist: in 1983, in 1985 and not surprisingly again in 1999. Although he is known to change his name occasionally, he is usually known by which name?

Answer: Prince

"1999" was probably the most played song at New Year's Eve parties in 1999. However the song achieved its highest chart position in 1985, peaking at Number Two.
9. An American band were checking the time in 2003 and found it to be "12.51". What was their name?

Answer: The Strokes

Taken from their second album "Room on Fire", "12.51" achieved Number Seven in the British charts. The Strokes' guitarist Albert Hammond Jr is the son of Albert Hammond who achieved chart success in the '70s with "It Never Rains in Southern California".
10. This band were getting no reply when they dialled "5.7.0.5" back in 1978. Who sang this song?

Answer: City Boy

"5.7.0.5" reached Number Eight in 1978 and was City Boy's first hit. They only charted twice more, neither song reached the top ten.
