Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "How could we ever believe you, radio? Now that we've learned to deceive you..." Not exactly haunting lyrics but "Russian Radio" by this band was a club favorite and had a half dozen re-mixes including a decade version released in 2001. Who the heck sings it?

Answer: Red Flag

A band that had high hopes and instantly attracted a lot of electronic music fans in the early 1990's with "If I ever" and "Russian radio."
Alas, they too flew off into the Bermuda Triangle of the music industry never to be heard from again until 2001 with the re-release of newly mixed original songs.
2. This band, was an 80's icon and can be categorized solo. Who are they? Please, please tell me now!

Answer: Duran Duran

Duran Duran has more than a couple of classics that never seem to get old. One of the few bands which everyone knows at least one song or tune.
3. Before hip-hop went mainstream, what blonde female singer 'rapped' it up in a ground- breaking song entitled 'Rapture?'

Answer: Deborah Harry

The lead singer of Blondie 'represented' before such an expression was yet known outside the hip-hop community.. Who can forget the dude spray-painting 'Rap' on the wall or the guys wearing the flashing lights on their glasses or clothes?
4. This guy maybe a little strange, but we all hum more than a couple of his songs both from the band he started with and his equally successful solo act. (He just 'wants to say hello, to an old friend'.)

Answer: Morrissey

What can we say about old Steve? A classic manic depressive crooner. The Smiths and his self named act Morrissey rate highly with us all.
5. This man with wild hair claims indirectly that only the fair sex is supposed to shed a tear. Why is it most of the songs he sings make us cry?

Answer: Robert Smith

The Cure has changed Band Members more often than we can keep track of but their sound is enduring. The Cure can also be considered as one of the forerunners of Goth. Seemingly enough, the band's front man Robert Smith is the most enduring member of the group and the best known.
6. Used to be in Depeche Mode, went off to Yaz and landed a permanent gig at Erasure. Who is he?

Answer: Vince Clarke

Andy Bell and Vince Clarke are icons. Vince has the distiction of being an original member of Depeche although you would never know it.
Erasure shows are exactly that...instead of a concert, every song is performed with distinct props and costumes or a theme.
7. This classic jacket quickly became the preferred outer-wear of all folks who listened to new-wave, punk, heavy-metal or the infamous Hell's Angels. Ah, the 'Fonz' would be proud!

Answer: MC/Motor cycle jacket/leather

Black and leather- enough said.
8. First they were Joy Division, then they became?

Answer: New Order

Joy Division's lead-singer Ian Curtis had an untimely death, the band reformed into the Constantinople of New Wave music, New Order.
9. They wore blue jeans, black tank-tops and had four hit songs. One in particular that we really remember 'She drives me crazy' who were they?

Answer: Fine Young Cannibals

Hey, they wore bouncing air cushion soles and created a song that will serve as a jingle for generations to come. What more do you want from FYC?
10. Guns in the sky. Never tear us apart. Lead singer looks like Jim Morrison and was enamored to Kylie Minogue. Australia. Suicide Blonde. Disappear...

Answer: INXS

This band had a long, long run. Following a slew of albums, (one a year at one point) in the mid 1990s INXS fell from grace and their beloved lead singer took his own life.
11. This band makes the claim in a song to "hate all music and especially Rap". Their name has inspired a bunch of meanings. Does anyone know who they are?

Answer: KMFDM

KMFDM claims that their song 'KMFDM sucks' is a parody and that they actually listen to and enjoy Rap music. One of the translations for their acronym has been taken by many as a swipe at Depeche Mode using colorful language. The band has also denied this claim.
12. The lyrics of this song keep ringing in my head..."Not now, James- We're busy" Who sings it?

Answer: Pop will eat itself

Great Band, I always thought they were border-line Industrial but who's telling?
13. What song was classified by Mute records as Bong 13?

Answer: Strange Love

Every Depeche Fan has to know this. Red mega-phone or black and white if you are watching the 'Strange' VHS.
14. You listen to Informatik, Frontline Assembly, X marks the Pedwalk, Cult of Xymox, Velvet Acid Christ...you wear military fatiques and a crew cut...what is the nick name for your music?

Answer: Industrial

The mosh pit may have started with punk, but it was perfected by the electronic body music worshipping rivet-heads. Industrial music and electronic goth is still going strong with bands like Laether-Strip, Switch Blade Symphony and Clan of Xymox in the forefront.

It has come a long way since the days of Front 242, a band still revered and suprised its fans by recently releasing an all new album entitled 'Pulse.'
15. Don't be a poser! What band was 'living in oblivion?'

Answer: Anything Box

Yes, their album is a must have! (At least in my opinion.) Every now and then a band comes along and moves you, you memorize all the music and they vanish...that is certainly Anything Box. This electro-band is smooth and relaxing and can still inspire a jig in the tradition of Marc Almond.
