Paul Anka's "Diana" was his debut US single and also his first Number One hit. Paul wrote the song with Joe Sherman and recorded it when he was only 15. "Lonely Boy" was released two years later and became Paul's second Number One hit. He hit the Top Twenty four times in 1958 and toured with many of the Teen Idols of the fifties.
"Put Your Head On My Shoulder" was a Number Two hit in 1959 and "Puppy Love" reached Number Two the following year.
In the sixties the British Invasion put Anka's career on hold. He signed with Buddah Records in the early seventies and released "(You're) Having My Baby" in 1974 with Odia Coates.

"(They Long to Be) Close to You" put The Carpenters on top of the charts in 1970. The year before they had only one chart entry, a cover of The Beatles' "Ticket to Ride" that reached number fifty-four. "Top of the World" topped the charts in 1973 and their final Number One hit before Karen Carpenter died in 1983 was their rendition of "Please Mr. Postman".
The duo's first of twelve albums was called "Offering" in 1969 but was changed to "Ticket to Ride" when the single was released.
"Do That to Me One More Time" and "Love Will Keep Us Together" were the only Number One songs by The Captain and Tennille. "Where Is the Love" by Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway peaked at Number Five in 1972. "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" and "(You're My) Soul and Inspiration" were the only two chart toppers by The Righteous Brothers.

"Family Affair" from the group's 1971 "There's a Riot Goin' On" album was the third and last chart-topper from Sly and the Family Stone. The album debuted at Number One on the US album charts and the single topped the charts for three weeks. Sly did not use the rest of the band while recording "Family Affair". Bobby Womack and Billy Preston played keys while Sly Stone programmed the rhythm track and played bass.
A year after "Family Affair" was released tensions developed within the group that led to their dissolution.
Although "I Want to Take You Higher" became a signature tune by the band it only reached Number 38 in 1970. "Dance To The Music" was a Top Ten hit in 1967, reaching Number Eight. "If You Want Me to Stay" was a Number 12 single in 1973.

"Mama Told Me (Not to Come)" from Three Dog Night's "It Ain't Easy" became the group's first Number One hit in 1970. The song was written by Randy Newman for Eric Burden's 1966 solo album "Eric Is Here". Cory Wells sang lead vocals on Three Dog Night's single.
The following year "Joy to the World" topped the charts. The song was from "Naturally", their fourth studio album. The band initially rejected the song but singer Chuck Negron advocated strongly for it. When the song topped the charts songwriter Hoyt Axton and his mother Mae became the first mother-son team to both chart Number One hits. Mae Axton co-wrote Elvis' "Heartbreak Hotel".
Danny Hutton sang lead on their final number one, "Black and White" (1972).
Three Dog Night disbanded in 1976 but reunited in 1981 with a different lineup of musicians.

"Pleasant Valley Sunday" topped out at Number Three in 1967 for The Monkees. "It's Nice To Be With You" went to Number 51 in 1968 for The Monkees.

Margo Smith had a successful Country single with "Don't Break the Heart That Loves You" in 1978.
In 1962, Shelley Fabares' only Number One hit was "Johnny Angel". Brenda Lee has charted two Number One hits. Little Peggy March's only Number One hit was "I Will Follow Him" (1963).
