Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Daniel Jones and Darren Hayes were known as?

Answer: Savage Garden

Savage Garden was formed in Brisbane in 1993 and was pretty much an instant success for Darren Hayes with his unique vocals and Daniel Jones with his amazing musical arrangements. With number one hits for "I Want You", "To the Moon and Back", "Truly Madly Deeply", "The Animal Song" and "I Knew I Loved You", the duo went from unknown to chart topper.

Unfortunately, their partnership did not last and even though Darren Hayes went on to a solo career, he never did manage the career highlights of Savage Garden.
2. What female artist's 2000 single is "Shine"?

Answer: Vanessa Amorosi

Well talk about rags to riches, Amorosi was discovered singing in a Russian restaurant in a suburb of Melbourne by a television producer. Shortly afterwards, Amorosi released a single, "Have a Look", that achieved gold record status, following up with an album ,"The Power". Amorosi performed at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, both opening and closing ceremonies, cementing her place in Australian musical fame. "Shine" was performed at the Paralympic Games 2000 and the Commonwealth Games 2002.
3. Which band has produced the albums 'Frogstomp', 'Freakshow' and 'Neon Ballroom'?

Answer: Silverchair

Forming in 1992, Silverchair were an Australian rock band, formed in Newcastle firstly as Innocent Criminals with Daniel Johns, Ben Gillies and Chris Joannou. Changing their name and getting their big break in 1994 from a competition by SBS TV and Triple J radio, they were signed as an act by Murmur. Silverchair has been successful both in Australia and overseas, selling over 8 million albums to date. Unfortunately for us all, in 2011 Silverchair decided to go into what they called a hiatus.
4. What band sings 'Buses And Trains', 'Treat me Good' and 'Permission to Shine'?

Answer: Bachelor Girl

Interestingly, Bachelor Girl is a duo of Tania Doko and James Roche. The duo formed in 1992, with Tania taking on the role of vocalist and Roche being the musician, producer and arranger. The duo did not release their first single until 1998, "Buses and Trains", succeeding in being a top ten hit in Australia and New Zealand, and gaining some success in Sweden and the United Kingdom. "Treat Me Good" was the duo's second single, also gaining some success.
5. Starting as a brother and sister duo before moving into a rock band, whose first album was called 'Reflector'?

Answer: Killing Heidi

Ella and Jesse Hooper are siblings from a small Victorian town, Violet Town, who started their music career as a duo and became in 1996 Killing Heidi. As Killing Heidi, they released their first studio album "Reflector" in 2000. "Reflector" achieved number one on the ARIA Albums Chart. Killing Heidi were nominated at the ARIA Music Awards in the same year in seven categories and won four: Album of the Year, Best Group, Breakthrough Artist - Album and Best Rock Album for Reflector. Breaking up in 2006 and reforming in 2016 (on and off), Killing Heidi is definitely one to look out for, as their contributions are always talented.
6. "The Big Day Out" music festival started in January 1992 in Sydney, Australia. Who was the Headline act?

Answer: Violent Femmes

After the Violent Femmes announced a tour of Australia, Ken West and Vivian Lees thought about capitalising on it and came up with the "Big Day Out" festival. So it began in Sydney in 1992, originally as a one-off. West and Lees luckily gained Nirvana as a participant of the festival, ensuring that local and other overseas acts would get exposure and, of course, recognition. From its small beginnings, with great acts, the festival was extended to other Australian states with immediate success.
7. Frenzal Rhomb are what kind of band?

Answer: Punk Rock Band

Frenzal Rhomb were formed in 1992, although not initially a success. They gained some in 1999 with their album "A Man's Not a Camel" achieving a place in the Top 20 in the ARIA Album Chart. Frenzal Rhomb has not only achieved success in Australia but has also toured the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, South Africa, Israel and Taiwan.

The lead vocalist, Jason Whalley, is the only consistent member of the band, whereas all the other musicians have been and gone and changed over the years.
8. Who are the two siblings in Sister2Sister?

Answer: Christine and Sharon

Christine and Sharon Muscat are the two sisters that performed as Sister2Sister. Going from pop singers, enjoying being songwriters and finally, television presence, the sisters had success at the ARIA Musical Awards in 2000. Both were presenters on MTV Hits in 2001. The sisters opened a singing school in 2004.
9. The television show "Popstars" formed this all girl band. Who were they?

Answer: Bardot

After appearing in the television series "Popstars" in 1999, Bardot was formed. Bardot's first album, named "Bardot", was released in 2000 and the first single was "Poison", which, because of the television show, became an instant success. In 2001, Bardot released its second album "Play It Like That", which also received chart success. Unfortunately, the band went their separate ways in 2002.
10. Who had the debut album, "Telling Everybody", in 1996?

Answer: Human Nature

Forming in 1989 in Australia, Human Nature consisted of Toby Allen, Phil Burton and brother, Andrew and Mike Tierney. Starting off as a high school band, they were signed by Sony Music and released their first album "Telling Everybody". Human Nature achieved success both in Australia and overseas and has been amazingly still in its original format.
