Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. OK "Brothers and Sisters", I "Ain't Wastin' Time No More". Tell me the band we're looking for or I will tie you to the "Whipping Post", where you won't be able to "Eat a Peach".

Answer: Allman Brothers Band

The Allman Brothers Band were formed in 1969 by brothers Greg and Duane Allman and the band also consisted of some of the finest musicians ever, in Dickey Betts, Butch Trucks, Jaimoe Johnson and Berry Oakley.
"Whipping Post" (1969) came from the band's debut, self titled album, also from 1969 and "Eat a Peach" was their 1972 album which contained the track "Ain't Wastin' Time No More", while "Brothers and Sisters" was from 1973 and contained probably their best known tracks, "Jessica" and "Ramblin' Man" (both 1973).
2. Time to stop "Runnin' with the Devil" and instead "Dance the Night Away" like it's "1984". Or you could just "Jump". "I'll Wait". I know "Why Can't This Be Love", but do you know the band?

Answer: Van Halen

There were two Van Halens in Van Halen right from the start, back in 1972 with brothers Eddie Van Halen on lead vocals and guitar while Alex Van Halen handled the drums.
Fast forward to 2007 and two became three as, following the removal from the band of long time bass player, Michael Anthony, Eddie's son Wolfgang joined.
Van Halen disbanded in 2020 following the death of Eddie, but had a great career giving us tracks such as "Runnin' with the Devil" (1978), "Dance the Night Away" (1979) as well as the smash 1984 album, "1984" which contained the tracks "Jump" and "I'll Wait".
"Why Can't This Be Love" (1986) gave the band their second UK top ten hit and also their second top five hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in USA.
3. "Hey You", "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet". I'm not going to "Let It Ride" either. You can't "Roll On Down the Highway" until you tell me the name of the band.

Answer: Bachman-Turner Overdrive

What do they put in the water in Winnipeg, Manitoba to produce not one, not two, but three talented brothers?
BTO as they are commonly known, originally consisted of brothers Randy, Robbie and Tim Bachman as well as Fred Turner and had seven Canadian top twenty hits between 1974 and 1975, starting with "Let It Ride" (1974). "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" was a Canadian number one the same year and in 1975, their hits included "Roll On Down the Highway" and a second Canadian number one with "Hey You".
4. Oh, "Animal I Have Become" in this "World So Cold". "Misery Loves My Company" because "I Am Machine" but you can escape the "Pain" if you can name the band.

Answer: Three Days Grace

Three Days Grace have been rockin' since 1997 and became a brothers band in 2014 when Matt Waist joined on vocals to team up with his brother Brad, bass player and founder member.
The band released their debut album in 2003 and found immediate success in their native Canada, which grew with the release of "One-X" (2006), the album that spawned the tracks "Animal I Have Become" and "Pain" (both 2006), both of which reached number one on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart in USA.
This American success was duplicated by "World So Cold" (2010), "Misery Loves My Company" (2013) and "I Am Machine" (2014), all of which hit the top spot on this chart.
5. Sorry, I know it's a "Kick in the Eye" but "Bela Lugosi's Dead". It may seem as if "The Sky's Gone Out" but there's no doubting the "Spirit" or "The Passion of Lovers" as you select the correct answer.

Answer: Bauhaus

While enigmatic frontman Pete Murphy may have attracted most of the attention, the driving force behind him consisted of Kevin Haskins on drums and his brother David J on the bass.
This Northampton based band were successful in UK for an all too brief four years and the majority of their success abroad was found in New Zealand.
"Bela Lugosi's Dead" (1979) was their arrival on the scene and while this charted on the UK indie chart, they had to wait until 1981 when both "Kick in the Eye" and "The Passion of Lovers" entered the lower reaches of the UK national chart.
"Spirit" (1982) from their 1982 album, "The Sky's Gone Out" climbed even higher and set the stage for the band's biggest hit, a blistering cover of David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust" (1982).
6. As I look into your "Mystic Eyes", I have to ask, "Don't Start Crying Now". After all, "Here Comes the Night" so "Baby, Please Don't Go". Just name the band please.

Answer: Them

Them are fondly remembered as the band that launched the career of the great Van Morrison and in their brief time together had a history of unstable relationships.
In 1964 Pat McAuley joined the band on keyboards, replacing Eric Wrixon, but just months later, drummer Ronnie Millings left and Pat switched to drums. In early 1965, Pat's brother, Jackie McAuley, joined as keyboard player and although he left by April the same year, it means that Them do qualify as a band with brothers.
"Don't Start Crying Now" (1964) was the band's debut single and was followed in the same year by "Baby, Please Don't Go", which was a top ten hit in UK.
"Here Comes the Night" (1965) was an even bigger hit, reaching number two in UK and although "Mystic Eyes (1965) wasn't a UK hit, it did achieve minor success in Canada and USA on the Billboard Hot 100.
This was their last taste of chart success although staples such as "Here Comes the Night", "Baby, Please Don't Go" and of course their most recognisable song, "Gloria" (1964) have been re-released many times.
7. It's "Saturday Night", so "Keep on Dancing". Before I say "Bye, Bye, Baby", I must tell you that "You Made Me Believe in Magic", so can you name the band?

Answer: Bay City Rollers

If you remember the 70s but were not a teen girl in the 70s, you surely remember the amount of high pitched screaming that occurred whenever Eric Faulkner, Stuart Wood, Les McKeown, and brothers Alan and Derek Longmuir appeared on a TV screen.
These tartan clad troubadours had hits around the world starting with "Keep on Dancing" (1971) which was a UK top ten hit and continuing through "Bye, Bye, Baby" (1975) which hit number one in UK and Australia.
USA wasn't immune to them either as "Saturday Night" (1976) failed to chart in UK but hit the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and "You Made Me Believe in Magic" (1977) was only a minor hit in UK but top ten in USA, again on the Billboard Hot 100.
8. Hello, it's me "Calling You". Don't "Hate Me" because I know I shouldn't "Say It" but "I Hope You're Happy". "Oh My My", can you tell me the band here?

Answer: Blue October

One of my favourite bands and relatively unknown in UK, Blue October may have an incredible frontman in Justin Furstenfeld, but his brother Jeremy is no slouch on the drums either.
"Calling You" (2003) was the first Blue October track to get them noticed and with "Hate Me" (2006) they achieved Billboard chart success when it peaked at number 31 in USA.
"Say It" (2009) was their first single to enter the top 50 of the Billboard rock chart is USA and in 2018, "I Hope You're Happy" became their biggest hit on this chart, peaking at number 18.
"Oh My My" was released in 2020 and quickly became a crowd pleaser at their live shows.
9. "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm". After I have been "Swimming in Your Ocean", I will sing "The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead" and how "He Liked to Feel It" on his way to "Promised Land". Which band does this bring to mind?

Answer: Crash Test Dummies

Brothers Brad (vocals) and Dan (bass) are an integral part of the distinctive sound that is the Crash Test Dummies, hugely popular in their native Canada and known worldwide for "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm" (1993).
The band have had several top ten hits on the Canadian chart, including "Swimming in Your Ocean" (1994) and "The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead" (1995), which wasn't on any Crash Test Dummies albums, but is in fact a cover of the XTC song from 1992 and was specially recorded for the "Dumb and Dumber" (1994) movie.
"He Liked to Feel It" (1996) became their biggest chart hit when it shot to number two on the Canadian chart and the band continued to make great music well into the 21st century as well as giving back to society with their single "Promised Land". This was a collaboration between the band and Marc Mysterio and Mark Crozer to raise awareness of the work performed by Red Cross and Red Crescent doctors, nurses and lawyers, working with the huge number of refugees coming to Europe.
10. You may indeed be a "Fortunate Son", but "Have You Ever Seen the Rain"? While we were "Down on the Corner", "I Put a Spell on You" so that even with the "Bad Moon Rising" you can tell me this band.

Answer: Creedence Clearwater Revival

CCR may have only been around for a short time, releasing just seven albums between 1968 and 1972, but what a wealth of timeless classics they gave us.
The band of brothers in this instance were John Fogerty on vocals and guitar with his older brother Tom on rhythm guitar and they were the driving force behind hits such as "I Put a Spell on You" (1968) and "Bad Moon Rising" (1969) which was their only UK number one hit.
"Down on the Corner" and "Fortunate Son" (both 1969) was a double A sided single that reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 in USA while "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" (1971) was to be their penultimate top ten hit on that chart as well as the third in a run of four consecutive Canadian number ones.
