Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Jocko Homo" (1978). Mark and Bob Mothersbaugh

Answer: Devo

Devo actually had two pairs of brothers within their ranks. As well as Mark (vocals and keyboards) and Bob Mothersbaugh (guitar), there were the Casale brothers with Gerald on bass and Bob handling keyboards and guitar.
The group is well remembered for their international hit, "Whip It" (1980) and anyone who has seen them live will testify it is an experience not forgotten with some great visual effects providing a backdrop to these strange men in yellow plastic suits with top notch choreography.
The first Devo single was actually "Mongoloid", released in 1977 from the "B Stiff" EP of the same year and it was a year later that their first album, "Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!" (1978) came out with "Jocko Homo" (1978) as the lead single.
"Jocko Homo" (1978) had also been included on the "B Stiff" EP (1977), and was re-recorded for the album and gave the band a minor hit on the UK charts.
2. "Just Keep Walking" (1980). Andrew, Jon and Tim Farriss.

Answer: INXS

Before changing their name to INXS, the band was in fact known as The Farris Brothers and they did spend a short time performing as The Vegetables as well.
Their first single, released in 1980 was "Simple Simon" backed with "We Are the Vegetables", but as that wasn't a track from their first album, we won't count it for this quiz. "Simple Simon" and "We Are the Vegetables" didn't actually make it to an album until the release of the "INXSIVE" compilation album in 1982, meaning their first single from their debut album, INXS (1980) was "Just Keep Walking" (1980).
"Just Keep Walking" (1980) also gave the band their first taste of chart success, peaking at number 38 in Australia and after a couple more home market hits, they achieved foreign success when "The One Thing" (1982) was a hit in Canada and USA on the Billboard Hot 100.
3. "To Cut a Long Story Short" (1980). Gary and Martin Kemp.

Answer: Spandau Ballet

The Kemp brothers were the guitar section of Spandau Ballet, with Gary on lead and Martin on bass from the first album all the way to their split in 1990. When the band reformed in 2009, it was once again all the original members, including the brothers Kemp.
"To Cut a Long Story Short" (1980) was the lead single from their 1981 album, "Journeys to Glory" and it gave the boys immediate chart success reaching the top five in UK as well as being a top twenty hit in Australia.
4. "Jealous Again" (1990). Chris and Rich Robinson

Answer: The Black Crowes

The Black Crowes from Georgia, Atlanta burst onto the scene in 1990 with their debut album, "Shake Your Money Maker", which was a top five hit in New Zealand, Canada and in USA on the Billboard 200 chart.
From this album, "Jealous Again" (1990) was chosen as the first single and it made a respectable showing, charting in the lower reaches of the charts in Canada, UK, Australia and on the Billboard Hot 100 in USA.
The follow single, "Hard to Handle" (1990) did a little better and then came the third single, the very successful "She Talks to Angels" (1991).
The band were formed by the Robinson brothers, Chris on vocals and Rich on guitar, while they were still at high school and although they had a disagreement in 2015 that resulted in the band breaking up, brotherly love won out (finally) and in 2019 they reformed and in 2022 released an EP entitled 1972, containing six cover versions of their favourite tracks from that year.
5. "Supersonic" (1994). Liam and Noel Gallagher

Answer: Oasis

Oasis were originally a Liam Gallagher band named Rain, and changed the name to Oasis once older brother Noel joined their ranks and guitarist and songwriter.
"Supersonic" (1994) was the lead single from their 1994 album, "Definitely Maybe" and charted in UK, peaking at number 31. Their talent was evident though and afer the follow up, "Shakermaker" (1994) stalled at number eleven on the UK charts, things really went supersonic. Between "Live Forever" (1994) and "The Shock of the Lightning" (2008) the band had an incredible 22 consecutive UK top ten singles
Although they never really cracked USA, fellow North Americans, Canada took the band to their hearts and "Go Let It Out" (2000) to "Lyla" (2005), they had eight consecutive top ten singles there.
6. "Fly" (1996). Chad and Mike Kroeger

Answer: Nickelback

Ah, this is an interesting one. "Fly" (1996) was originally included on the band's EP, "Hesher" (1996) and was released as a single too. But EPs don't count for this quiz, so fast forward just two months and the band released their debut album, "Curb" (1996) with "Fly" included as an album track and still in circulation and available as a single, so technically their debut single from their debut album.
At the time of their debut album, there was another Kroeger in the band too as Brandon was on drums alongside bass player Mike and Chad on guitar and vocals.
Nickelback from Hanna, Alberta hit the big time in 2001 when the track "How You Remind Me" blazed a trail up the charts globally, and who hasn't played spot the celebrity while watching the video for "Rockstar", their 2006 smash hit?
7. "Little Things" (2000). Joel and Benji Madden.

Answer: Good Charlotte

Many bands with brothers in the line up seem to have the siblings on vocals and guitar and Good Charlotte are no exception with Joel handling vocal duties and Benji responsible for the axe work.
The band's self titled, debut album from 2000 didn't really chart anywhere apart from New Zealand, while the first single, "Little Things" (2000) was a hit nowhere apart from Australia where it troubled the lower end of the charts.
Everything changed and Good Charlotte were on everybody's radar by 2002 though, with their first smash hit, "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous".
8. "Vampires Will Never Hurt You" (2002). Gerard and Mikey Way

Answer: My Chemical Romance

Along with guitarist Ray Toro, the Way brothers have been there since the very start of My Chemical Romance.
Unfortunately it wasn't the most auspicious start as lead single, "Vampires Will Never Hurt You" (2002) and the follow up, "Honey, This Mirror Isn't Big Enough for the Two of Us" (2003), both from the debut album, "I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love" (2002) failed to have any impact on any charts.
The third single from the album, "Headfirst for Halos" (2004) saw minor success in UK and then everything started to come together with the release of their second album, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge (2004) which yielded three minor singles chart hits. Then "boom", along came the hugely successful album, "The Black Parade" (2006) and the rest, as they say, is history.
9. "In One Ear" (2008). Matt and Brad Shultz.

Answer: Cage The Elephant

Along with Jared Champion on drums, the Schultz brothers, Matt on vocals and Brad on guitar. are the only Cage The Elephant members to have been with the band from the start.
Although the band members are American, they figured they would have more success in UK, so moved there prior to releasing their debut album in 2008. The lead single, "In One Ear" (2008) was indeed a minor hit in UK and even a top ten hit on the Scottish charts and the success continued with the follow up single, "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked" (2003).
The band also appeared on TV show, "Later... with Jools Holland" in 2008 alongside Coldplay, Glen Campbell and John Mellencamp, so perhaps their decision to relocate was a wise one indeed.
10. "When the Curtain Falls" (2018). Josh, Jake and Sam Kiszka

Answer: Greta Van Fleet

What's not to love about the incredible Kiszka brothers along with Danny Wagner keeping them in check on drums. As a diehard Led Zeppelin fan I find these guys incredible, can't get enough of them and eagerly await new material.
Right from the debut album, "Anthem of the Peaceful Army" (2018) it was obvious these guys were something special and having whet the public's appetite with two EPs prior to the album, it was no surprise when "When the Curtain Falls" (2018) went top ten in many rock charts, following the lead set by EP releases, "Highway Tune" and "Safari Song" (both 2017).
The band released their second album, "The Battle at Garden's Gate" in 2020 and look set to go from strength to strength.
